Here is my experience with this animal hospital. I don't mind traveling if the care is good and…read morethe facility doesn't take advantage of the customer by overcharging or adding unnecessary fees to everything. This is a 30 minute drive for us. Everything was good with them until I took our dog Maisey there for a stomach bug and annual shots and heart worms test. I had already taken a cat and my service dog there and had not had a problem. I give all our dogs and cats revolution for heart worms, fleas, and ticks. I find it superior to others and I like it's a once a month topical. This hospital does not sell it so I purchase and have always purchased through Chewy (just placed Remy's order without issue). This time when I put my info in Chewy couldn't get the hospital to confirm Maisey so I phoned. This is where I have the problem, suddenly there is now a $15 dollar fee for prescriptions each time for each one. This is outrageous, I've spent 19 years in the animal medical field and it never amazes me when a greedy veterinary hospital starts tacking on extra fees. Our dogs always get their annual shots and they even had the nerve to bump the dogs rabies vaccines back to a 1 year certificate instead of the proper 3 year. Maisey is over 12 years, Remy 5 years and a working service dog in the field; they have never missed their vaccines. Over vaccinating is the leading cause of carcinoma in canines. Instead of being honest and trustworthy they are out for $$$$$. I do not recommend this clinic. Do your research and find a clinic that respects the families and doesn't bleed them through the love of their pets.

While home from college, I recently took my cat to Animal Health Center of Dexter due to a…read moresuspected UTI. While there, I asked them to express her anal glands as well. Within 30 minutes of taking my cat home, she was bleeding profusely. I was frightened and in a state of panic so I called Animal Health Center of Dexter and explained what was going on. The staff member who answered my call was callous, uncaring, and displayed a total lack of concern. I brought her back up there to be seen for the bleeding, a staff member called told me the vet said she had passed a kidney stone. At this point I decided to call Primary Vet located over 5 hours away to let them know what was going on. After getting the records from AHC, they said it didn't make any sense that she would have randomly passed a stone after looking at her urinalysis results (especially without reacting). They asked me to check her anal glands to see if they were still bleeding. They were, pretty bad and my cat had started to scoot along the floor screaming in pain. Her regular vet then suggested I call the emergency line ASAP. Unfortunately, there are none available in the Dexter area. The bleeding subsided from her anal glands through the night thankfully, and I was able to have her seen the following day somewhere else. They were kind, compassionate and understanding. They were able to do scans to make sure there were no stones and comfort to my cat and ease my concerns. I have since learned from an extremely unprofessional message from the vet that this staff member incorrectly informed me of my pet's diagnosis, causing this unnecessary stress. Regrettably, the horrendous experience that I had with Animal Health Center of Dexter did not end there. I posted about my experience on my personal FB page concerning the poor treatment of both my pet and myself. I named the business only and NOT any individuals. The following day, after several others replied to my post with similar negative experiences, the Vet from Animal Health Center of Dexter contacted me directly through Facebook. She sent me texts not to apologize, but to allude to filing a Defamation lawsuit due to the negative review on my personal page accounting my experience. She attacked my age and intelligence along with questioning my integrity. She also expressed her inability to control the actions of the employees at the Animal Health Center of Dexter and spoke to the suicide rate of Veterinarians, her own poor health, and a desire to no longer practice veterinarian medicine due to the profession being "doomed and hopeless". The total lack of professionalism, personal attacks on my age/character/intelligence, and complete inability or unwillingness to accept any fault or misunderstanding on Animal Health Center of Dexter's side speaks volumes to the ineffectual care they provide. The bullying tactics imposed upon me after my negative experience were unprincipled, unethical, and hold no place in the world of pet healthcare that is both physical and mental for pet and owner alike. Personal feelings of the providing healthcare professional should not impact the level of care received. Aside from the business aspect of my experience, I have a genuine concern for the mental health and stability of the individual who contacted me. Her talk of poor personal health, unhappiness with her career field coupled with the talk of Veterinarian Suicide is a real concern.

I have been going to this Animal Health Center clinic in Sikeston for at least 13 years. I have…read morespent many, many thousands of dollars at this clinic with my 3 dogs. I had my dog in there today for an eye problem and to get her yearly shots. Everything went fine until I got home and realized I did not have the rabies tag. I called the office and the male that answered the phone told me I did not get any shots today. I said yes I did. He read off the list of what was done. He said I was confused and my appointment for shots was scheduled for the 17th of Oct.. I said yes and she got her yearly shots also today and he disagreed with me again. He told me no she didn't and started to read the list again. What an attitude he had in his voice. Pretty much called me a liar and made me feel like I was trying to get something for free. When I interrupted him he said do you want me to go ask the vet. Before I could answer the phone went dead. I called back and a lady answered the phone. I asked if he hung up on me and she said no, he went to the back to check. Again making me feel like he thought I was lying. Come to find out it was proven I wasn't lying because the lady checked and it wasn't put in the computer. I still owed for it. I went back over and paid after they put it in the computer and got the tag for my dog. It could have all been avoided if this man would have checked before he ran his mouth and pretty much accused me of lying. That is the last dollar, after spending thousands of dollars every year there for the past 13 years that these folks will ever get from me. All because an incompetent employee with an attitude. My 3 dogs will never darken your door again.
