Rico's hospitality and knowledge of his products are great! There's a room upstairs to host parties, or play downstairs in the DnD room.

I ended up going alone but the group was small (6 people) so it was really easy to socialize. The class was set up so that we arrived, drank a margarita, assembled tamales, did a group icebreaker task, learned about and made the Tequino cocktail, imbibed, and finally ate our delicious tamales. We were given all of the recipes, as well as mexican market suggestions so we could buy ingredients (such as the masa). Everyone was just amazing. The instructor, Cristina, was knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend going to one of their events. I will be!

I thought, what could be better than a gathering making tamales on a boat at the Marina in Emeryville?? Well folks, the answer is...nothing!!! I had the best time. I went by myself, learned how to make tamales with enough confidence to do so on my own, met a bunch of wonderful people, learned more about the rich, rich culture of Guadalajara and came away almost feeling smug, that I could make truly authentic tamales while having such a great time. All of the women who helped make this afternoon so special were fabulous. Katherine, our hostess, was warm and wonderful and extremely accommodating. Cristina, our resident expert, as proven by her skill and obvious passion for her craft, was lovely, talented and very informative. To feel the connection in Emeryville in 2012 to the generations of Mexicans from Guadalajara who have been handing down these recipes for generations, was so awesome and I felt humbled to learn this art...which it truly is. Thanks much to The Conectando Latinos Social Club. I will be back for more and more and more!

The Boys and Girls Club of Martinez (aka Diablo Valley) is a "home away from home" and a positive place for for kids. It offers various programs including character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports. My Site Manager and her husband have been personally involved with this very worthy organization for years. My company is also a long time supporter and many of my colleagues volunteer many hours of their own time (including some periodic food bank work). At one time many years ago, I served on their Board of Directors. However, I have had no direct involvement with the Boys and Girls Club of Martinez for several years. I just got busy with other charitable activities closer to home. The Boys and Girls Club of Martinez also organizes various fund-raising events throughout the year. These have included, a Crab Feed, the annual Auction, the Pete Ginocchio Memorial Golf Tournament, Power Lunch, and the Day for Kids. These events are not only enjoyable, but are attended by various interesting and very caring members of the greater Diablo Valley community.

I walked in unsure of what to do or who to talk to. Within seconds, people were directing me to go to the line and get some free chili, and another person was trying to get me to take some free pastries. I wish this happened everywhere I went, but I digress. You can come here to get a free meal, apparently no questions asked, which is really cool. I didn't get any food, as I ate right before coming over, but I wish I had at least tried the food. A really good organization for anyone looking for a meal and resources for jobs, community events, ect... I came here for a community outreach project for school. We performed blood pressure screenings and education materials on high blood pressure and diabetes. 20 minutes before they opened there were at least 30 people in line waiting for the doors to open. They have volunteers serving the food and they provided all the eating utensils and clean up. The man in charge (Gary) was very friendly and has a wholesome heart. He was so kind to the people coming in. There were tables with lots of free food for them to take home, mostly bread. Overall this is a wonderful establishment for the community, they are doing great things. We need one of these in Vallejo.
