My friend and I took a short day trip from Buffalo to Erie this past Sunday. Both coffee lovers we were happy to stumble across this cute little coffee shop in downtown Erie, PA. This location, once a bank, has been transformed into a modern minimalistic coffee shop with a simple menu and tons of natural light. Seating ranges from comfortable couches and chairs to regular and bar tables with various amounts of seats. The shop was packed when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon but it didn't feel crowded or noisy. Very clean and modern. This is a very hipster inspired coffee roaster with unique local art for sale. Just love the set up and atmosphere. The coffee is great black, the Blackbird roast is bold. They have unique latte combos, I recommend the rose and vanilla combo. The shop is walking distance from UPMC Hamot and a refreshing break from the hospital atmosphere if you need a break. read more

The environment was amazing it was very calming and relaxing. I loved the interior it was very aesthetic. We went to Erie by accident but to Ember + Forge on purpose, as hunger compelled us to search out the highest rated coffee joint (or cheapest- this was a point of dispute among our party). It was takeout only (2020) but we gazed longingly through the window at the soft chairs and modern layout just out of our reach, as the crisp air whetted our appetites. There was no line on the sidewalk but the throwback prices (2.50 for a pour over or Chemex??) caught our attention and my notoriously cheap companion tried her first Chemex once I subsidized the upgrade to match the $2 drip coffee. As we walked bac Later that afternoon it would power us through the long drive to Cincinnati amidst drifting snow in Presque Isle (we aren't great with following maps, ok?) and the (presumably) drunken motorists of Cleveland. Later on that day I ended up hiccuping for an hour but I assume that it's not the fault of the coffee but rather my stomach telling me to turn around and go back there again for seconds. Cool downtown vibe. Bright, spacious and amazing customer service with a smile. I had dark roast and carrot cake. Worth the money. They were having a poet reading there with mic tonight. Busy and clean. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because I would of liked to sit in a puffy chair but they were all taken. And peopIe were smoking right outside the doorway as you walked in. So I received a big smoke fest before entering. Be mindful you are downtown parking is a little a little challenging. Be prepared to walk a bit. read more

Today was my first time visiting, and I will definitely return when I'm in town again. The decor was modern, clean, and refreshingly understated, if a bit sparse, but it definitely didn't detract from the experience; I'm there for coffee, not interior decorating style, after all ;) My cortado was at a perfectly drinkable temperature from the very first sip, and beyond luxurious. When I walked in, I felt like I was in West Hollywood. The minimalist/industrial decor is on point and makes for a wonderful atmosphere. I ordered a chai tea latte and the staff was extremely friendly. I loved sitting at the window and watching the snow fall downtown! They've got a loyalty program for coffee advocates, and offer gift cards. The only suggestion I'd make, is change the lighting at night- fluorescent and bright isn't the best for a coffee shop. During the day though, the atmosphere is perfect. This is just what Erie needed!! read more

Stopped in here for a coffee for our trip back home, ended up staying a while because the atmosphere was so calm and nice! The coffee was great (had a latte with a turmeric syrup as well as a chai latte) and the muffin I paired it with was just as good. Definitely will be returning next time I'm in Erie. read more

They're not open on Sundays. Business hours need to be updated. Also, I've been here about 5 times and I've never seen any walk up window. You just go inside, place your order, and you can either leave or dine outdoors. Not sure if the indoor lobby is open since the chairs are always flipped upside down. read more

My least favorite part, and worth the two stars absent from my review is that drip coffee refills are full price here. Even using a ceramic cup to stay, I paid full price for every refill as I sat and waited for my friend. The coffee is very tasty but not exceptional. Otherwise, this is a pretty coffee shop. The decor is modern and comfortable. The vibe and music is chill. The huge windows face a busy road in downtown Erie. The simple version, amazing coffee. Tough thing to find in Erie. I think they were looking to do that one thing really well and they have. I usually go for a pour over here (highly recommend), Most places I prefer a dark roast person but I really like their medium roast. Admittedly limited food, we sometimes mobile order Starbies breakfast sandwiches while waiting for our coffee, but I also drive completely out of my way to come downtown and get a cup of this coffee. The space is cool, they rotate local art on the walls, and plenty of space to work/just hang out. If you're that person who starts any vacation with a google or yelp search for best local coffee shop, this is the place for you. Frame of reference, I think comparable to some of my other favs: Tandem Coffee in Portland ME, Bluebottle (San Fran, NY location), French Truck in Nola. read more

Atmosphere is very cute for studying, and it's always nice to have the ability to get away from a Starbucks when you are in need of some coffee. Ordered the chai tea latte and my husband ordered the caramel latte. Both were good, but a little heavy on the milk for both of our tastes. ember + forge has quickly become one of my favorite coffeeshops in erie - and i'm so grateful that there are several indie ones to choose from now! the atmosphere is fantastic - take some time to chat with the owner about the history of the building, or just look around a little yourself - the space was lovingly restored and is part of some of the architecture that makes downtown erie what it is. the coffe drinks are all fantastic, prepared to order, and often unique - they often blend coffees and will work with you to find something to fit what you're in the mood for. there's also a great rotating selection of pastries. i've never had one that wasn't fresh and moist! the music is often excellent, but not overpowering if you prefer headphones and your own playlist, and it's an easy place to spend several hours working. read more

We're new to Erie, and one of the first things on my to-do list was to scope out all the local cafes and restaurants. I met my husband for coffee here with my toddler in tow. Very cute, spacious cafe right downtown with a good bit of room to sit inside as well as outside. Their blueberry muffin is the best I've had in a very long time, and their coffee was just what I needed to get me through the morning (moving with a toddler is a challenge!) This place is awesome! Great coffee selections and delightful ambiance! I have been there in the late afternoon, a few evenings, and in the morning it just gets better & better! The layout is inviting and in the summer with the chairs outside in the cool morning shade you could just sit and watch the world go by -- or at least catch a glimpse of the Niagara on the bay sailing past! We didn't get much excitement from the baristas to purchase any "must try" drinks or treats. The coffee they served was good but the service there was not. When I asked a question regarding the different prices/sizes it wasn't even explained. 'One is bigger than the other'. Got it. When we sat down there were coffee mugs from the previous occupants. Thinking they'd be removed we sat at that table, 45 minutes later they were still there and we were out the door. Seems too busy for their unfriendly employees. Probably not going back. read more
