Wildfire Ranch Spiritual Retreat - Trail ride

Wildfire Ranch Spiritual Retreat

(29 reviews)

I was back again this year after I had a fantastic time last year for my 50th birthday. Thank you…read moreCynthia! Thank you Bobby! I couldn't ask for a better weekend of being with my spiritual loves - horses (especially my Valiant) and enjoying wonderful (literally full of wonder) rides with you and amazing opportunities to connect with myself in the solitude of your peaceful retreat!

I wasn't going to write this review, but when I got these message below after I had inquired about…read morea charge after checking out , I knew I had too. I so very much wish my experience was like the other reviews I read. I believe the owner is getting in over her head & true colors are showing. JMO. PROS: the horses are very well trained,stalls/barn well-maintained, they supply small water bottles for rides, breakfast was timely & good, the owner would update you on your agenda or last minute changes via text, the upper deck provides a beautiful view of the ranch & beyond, the staff was hospitable & hard working, the rooms were clean, cozy, give you views of the horses and the bed was comfortable. CONS: (I truly wish there were none. I was so excited about this place. ) 1) I was told religion would not be pushed on me yet every session I was told to surrender to God or face hell (in detail and this scared me considering the vulnerable state I was in), 2) the owner herself set me up w a "prophet" meeting I didn't sign up for & when I asked, is this going to be possible bad news? I was told it would all be positive: it was an hour of a young woman saying she was a prophet and god was telling her that i needed to leave my husbands, he wasn't my soulmate & if I didn't I wouldn't get the blessings coming my way (I was distraught & depressed the rest of the stay bc of this) furthermore, this prophet is the owners DAUGHTER AND I was then charged $90/100, 3) There was a "free day" on my agenda which I had no plans of filling; I thought I would be with the horses everyday & felt untended to for an entire day & night - considering the reasons guests come to the ranch, I was lonely & feeling super down, 4) the owner speaks down about past guests and often expressed "I have a low tolerance for fear or anxiety bc I've had to do hard things my whole life by myself" (low empathy for a trauma recovery ranch), 5) from the moment I got there until I left I was repeatedly told of her past traumas in detail, the estranged relationship w her daughters, her attempted suicides, her divorces, and all she has had to do on her own, more than I'd like to count & it was triggering (there's a time & a place for those disclosures and I didn't need a reminder everyday), 6) one of the therapy session included chasing a horse with a whip and I felt distressing a horse was not a good approach & made me very uncomfortable bc I cherish animals and their comfort so deeply, 7) during one of my equine therapy sessions (the most valuable & vulnerable part), the owner let last minute two non-guests come to pet the horses (for $50), spoke to them the entire time in front of my stall/the barn; no therapy was had that session and I felt exposed as this was a ranch for traumatized/depressed/healing guests, 8) having a lot of rain before and during stay (which cannot be helped and did not upset me) I did not feel it would be safe to ride bc it was so slippery and still raining so I did miss a trail ride & was bummed but it is what it is- the owner offered a $150 Saturday trail ride w picnic and I was psyched- the next day the owner texted she overbooked & I could not go - total bummer & would not be refunded the $160 she charged instead of $150), 9) during my trail ride I think I may have been bit by something (again, no ones fault and comes w the territory) but when I woke up with a large hard hot bump on my inner thigh the next morning and it hurt way too much for me to ride my next trail, I let the owner know the and she laughed at me (SEE TEXT BELOW), 10) if you add on the medieval photo shoot w the prince horse, pray every shot is gold bc the owner only takes a handful of shots, admits she has no photography experience, says she doesn't know what poses to do, rushes you, doesn't direct you, & chooses the shots the horse (not the person) looks best in. The two shots chosen for me (I would have loved to have picked because 2 were very special to me) were of me looking angry and blurry. I asked the graphic designer (I learned later was also her daughter??) for the two photos I did like but she wouldn't do it so that money & experience was lost 11) no matter your riding experience, you are given a 30 second instruction on how to ride and handle a horse on a trail right before you take off - one guest expressed fears and asked if there were any tips on how to ride a horse, "Nope. I have no tolerance for fear. That's why you signed a waiver." & 12) I had texted Cynthia on my free day expressing how I had been triggered and was going to ask to prey, but got the final text post in response. I got there so excited to ride, learn and heal and left feeling lonely, so sad, and taken for. If it weren't for the attached screenshots, I would have just not left a review & moved on.....

This weekend was going to be the first time I ever went to Mount Poconos. We only had half a day on…read moreour hands and horseback riding was one of the things I was dying to do. A short google search later, we found Daisy Field Farms and spoke to the owner who was kind enough to find us a slot that matched our schedule. We even got 20mins late while getting there because our GPS totally screwed us over, but they were kind enough to wait and immediately got us horses when we got there. I got Stella who was a beautiful big horse, strong and obedient. We trotted with our horses in a single file over a small hill/mountain. I don't know what to call it, only trust me when I say this IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. The farm looks like it's come out of the pages of an adorable old school english farm illustration. There are wagons here and there, Dumbo the dog is super friendly, there are goats you can feed, and rabbits too. During the one hour ride, you're taken up and down and around a mountain, through forests and fields and by small lakes. It was a gorgeous day when we went and everything looked 10times prettier. The couple who run this place are super nice and the horses look very well taken care of. Summer vacations are on and their three adorable little grandsons were helping around the farm too. I was positively jealous and swear I never wanted to leave. I'll be back again for sure, this place just made me so so happy!

We had an amazing guide! There was beautiful scenery through the mountains. I would definitely come…read moreback again!

I'm in love with this stable! I've been trail riding all over for years and Painted Bar Stables…read morewins the Blue Ribbon! Here's why: Erika, the owner, takes the time to learn about each prospective rider before you come so she can pair you with the perfect horse. So be sure and take the time to let them know in the online questionnaire how you are with horses and riding. I'm a confident rider and got a great horse for me where my husband isn't as confident rider and he was paired with a sweet easy going horse, Faye. Actually all the horses are sweet and wonderful. We did a one hour trail ride. The trail was fun - not too challenging and we even got to stop by a beautiful creek so the horses could take a drink. It's absolutely magical & no better way to see the beauty of this region. Now the horses: They are all beautiful, very healthy and thus happy. You can get to know them on the Painted Bar Stables website! Many are rescued and have been revitalized by being in this wonderful place. I can't wait to return.

The website is clear, informative and easy to navigate. The owner, Erika, responded to our ride request personally and promptly. The response was clear and gave us ride time options, which was much appreciated. The booking process was made very easy and stress free. Then we got to the stables! The property is expansive and beautiful. Rolling Hills, gorgeous pastures, shady forest with rivers cutting through it. The horses are phenomenal! It's clear from the first moment that the animals are adored! Exceptionally well taken care of, pampered, and of course it reflects in their tempers! They love their humans and could not have been sweeter to us! Have you ever met a horse who's a hugger? I did today and his name is Sweet Tea! The check-in process was smooth and easy. Even the Gift Shop has some really cute and memorable selections, which is rare! We were a party of 6, 3 adults and 3 kids. Some experienced, some real novices. Our guides, Randall and Zoe were a pleasure from the beginning to end. Zoe - thank you for matching every rider to their horse thoughtfully and perfectly! This young lady must have a sixth sense about human/horse personalities because, as the absolutely delightful owner Erika was describing their wonderful horses, it was sometimes hard to keep track of whether she was talking about the horse or the rider . Randall and Zoe - our guides were respectful, patient, informative, fun, and engaging. They made this experience unforgettable for everyone in the group! Erika stopped by as we were leaving and chatted with us for a while. This wonderful woman is pure joy and a force of nature! She truly loves her horses, staff and customers alike! She talked to us about the horses, their personalities, the stables and our riding experience. Loved meeting her and our guides! Thank you for a fantastic experience! You made all of us so happy! Can't wait to come back again and again!!!
