Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.

Henley Antique Centre - Terrific shop, but a bit of a drive from California

I usually give a quick peep in these kinds of shop anyway but it's possible you miss this one if you don't pay attention to the big sign outside. Henley Antique Centre is a typical and really nice shop with a very attention staff. There was so much to catch up with in this shop that I missed the jewellery stalls but the lady responsible for the place just warned me about these best bits of the shop and they really are. For an interested in white gold but simple jewellery I can tell they have really delicate options that according to the owner of the shop they are produced in Thailand. This antique shop is in the list of places to visit if you are an antique dealer. The range of memorabilia and fine arts in this shop is really impressive but what makes Henley Antique very interesting is the prices. from chess board for one £ 40 to huge rustic coffee tables for £ 100, you can find practically everything for some tenners and be the happy owner of a very fine furniture piece. I have spent some some quality time in this shop and the friendly service certainly helped. It was a pity I was visiting the city by train because i would certainly get some items form this shop easily that day but I don't think going back home by train with a coffee table would be impressive. Henley Antique Centre is a two floors shop they are open from Mondays to Saturdays ( 10 am to 4.30 pm) and Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11 am to 4pm.
