Every neighbourhood needs a butcher, they're a staple of the community. For centuries it has been, butcher, baker, candlestick maker.
These have been the necessary elements to creating a successful village. Someone to give you bread, someone for the meat and then a black smith so you can see at night as you eat your meat and bread.
And today, in Leichhardt, we have Elvy's Meats. A friendly community butchery with the familiar faces behind the counter, the delicious cuts inside the fridges and a large lump of dead animal ready for cutting up and cooking.
The meat is fresh and delicious and the the owner is always willing to help out with either bits of bone and gristle for an exploding corpse you want in a film, or to put up a poster for a radio play you're putting online.
It's a community butchery and it wouldn't be a community without a butcher! (Unless you're vegetarian, then I'm sure you'd get by hunky dory.) read more
