Elsie's is an amazing little second hand shop; it's not hard to see why the store has won 'The Coasts' 'Best of Halifax' award 2007-2009. Immediately when you walk into the store you notice all of the fine detailing that makes Elsie's such as wonderful place. Is that a sequined clutch hanging on the wall? Are those safety pin brooches? Wooo, look at those 'pin up' style high heels. Maureen, the shops proprietor seems to go the trouble of hunting around (and only accepting) really amazing stuff. Her sense of style is obviously great too judging by the shops success! When I was in most recently a few little things caught my eye: necklaces made from bits of china, fabulous silk scarves in bold patterns and prints and a green leather jacket! Elsie's also has a pretty awesome men's nook as well, so be sure to check that out! Maureen also lets people take items away with nothing more than a promise that they'll come back and pay later. Pretty trusting. When I was in, she let someone take away a winter coat with the comment: "I'd rather you'd be wearing it, just come and pay me when you can." -Easy to see why this little shop wins readers choice awards that's for sure. The best part of Elsie's: Nobody else will have those retro heels and vintage scarf you just bought! Gotta love that!

I had heard so much about Elsie's I thought I would go check it out. Elsie's is one of the second hand shops that I would actually shop in. I am not a big fan of the second hand places because most of the cloths are ugly, point blank. Elsie's was a nice surprise, the outside is a bright yellow, which is inviting and the inside is full of wonderful surprises. I will go back and recommend this shop to some friends who are the Thrift Queens. They can find a bargain anywhere. Elsie's is a really great store, please support it.

First, there's the smell. Elsie's sells a few soaps and bath products at the front of the store, and the scent of these products hits you the moment you walk in the store and instantly lifts your mood. Then, there's the stuff. Everything in this store has been specially selected for its retro-chic stylings, and the clothing is all of amazing quality. It's more expensive than many second-hand shops, but hey, this place ain't meant to be frenchy's. Keep in mind that they don't take debit, so you'll need to bring cash or pay with a credit card. Ouch. Who carries cash anymore? But it's not that difficult to just pop around the corner to a banking machine, so no bigs. They'll hold your extra-awesome purple cashmere cardigan until you get back.

While strolling through Halifax, I passed by a little, yellow, creatively decorated vintage shop called Elsie's. While I had never heard of Elsie's before, I thought it looked interesting enough and decided to check it out. I was incredibly impressed with the store. It truly was vintage - but great vintage! All of the clothes were in fantastic shape and were very reasonably priced (e.g., $35 for a Diesel winter jacket). They carried many brand name fashions including Gap, Abercrombie, and Mexx, and offered a great variety for both guys and girls. The shop was quite busy when I went in, but I gathered that a fair number of the people there were shopping for last minute Halloween costumes. While I didn't purchase anything this time, several things caught my eye and I will definitely be returning in the near future.

Lots of variety - not much for bigger sizes which was disappointing as I was extremely excited to go there.

I was lost, and then I was found…read more This is a special space of altered frocks, vintage finds, and a flavour of locally made. Eclectic musings come together to form Lost & Found's fashionably homemade North End boutique . The shop's mood is quiet and thoughtful, just as its clothes. Music is easy, and the store keeper sews away in a corner wooden chair. Piecing through the assorted racks, I become awe struck by the profuse selection of gorgeous things. Most times I am able to edit down final selections before the efforts of the fitting room; however, this was not the case. The clothing variety is of impeccable taste, as every item on display is hand picked, and/or altered with special detailing. And with such reasonable pricing-- it all seems too good to be true. (A large rack dedicated to post-season sales provides some gorgeous steals!) Clothing is displayed on thick wooden hangers, and well managed framework; the result is chic and polished confines. Divorce Records is an added bonus to the Lost & Found experience. Peek through this Halifax based label's selection for some stellar anti-industry music variety. Vinyl and CDs are for sale, and allow an opportunity to acquire new tastes, without commercial fluff. Also noteworthy: bin filled with $2 Vinyl picks. (Not Divorce Records) Besides glass encased jewelry and vintage frames, L&F is also decorated with DIY-styled trinkets and art. The space is fused with creative energy and wholesome goodness. I heart. My recent visit ended with the purchasing of a brilliant long sleeved crop top. With its subtle alterations-- front & back scoop neck with buttons, and adorable mini-shoulder pads + ruching-- its a dream piece. And only $18! The detailing of selections make for cool fits and one of a kind pieces. Lost & Found offers a creative and inspiring shopping experience, indeed. The carrier and creator of all things "special", this place is now top on my list.

Besides, I've heard that you're not supposed to wear stuff that you remember going by the first time around. So, dang it, no Mary Maxim sweaters for me.

Was there the other day and got 2 cool finds for a great discounted price- they are closing out…read moresoon So I found a lovely brown long slv top for work and the other to wear at home if I get cold- (which was what I was looking for originally)- Happy incase I miss the Boxing Day blowout!

When you first enter the store you'll find yourself faced with tables and tables of adorable nick nacks and homewares to browse though - so many cute mugs and beautiful candles! One day I dream that my home will be filled with them. They've also got journals, books, even a kids gift section. Further back you'll find clothing - men's is on the upper level and women's on the lower. They've also got a killer jewellery section (which is where I've found myself most often drooling over the rings and earrings). I never look closely at the clothing because I don't want to tempt myself (out of my price range), but just glancing at the racks I and tell there are a lot of cute things that I hear are really great quality. From the little bit of browsing I've done the sizes are all pretty small...whomp whomp. In the men's section you'll find wallets, shave kits and some really fun socks in addition to the standard clothing fare. Don't miss out on the back section behind the men's clothing where the sale stuff is! They've always got a good selection of sale things. I really love the idea of shopping at Biscuit General, but unless it's some of the smaller items I just don't have the budget for it. It can get very pricey very quickly. That being said if you have more room in your budget definitely give Biscuit General a shot - it's definitely a local gem!
