He went above and beyond not only to listen to my story and to understand it but to give me his professional advice for free, I did not feel like he was counting the minutes while we spoke, it was not decided I would need attorney's services or not and despite that his work ethic and professionalism made it super easy for me to make a decision out of dozens of other attorneys I spoke with in the same time period. I did an online chat with the Ellis Law Firm on Sunday and was told that the office would contact me on Monday. I called Monday afternoon but did not receive a call back. I called Tuesday and was told by Kelly that Mr. Ellis would call back that afternoon. Wednesday afternoon and I still did not receive a call. I then called the office and again spoke with Kelly. She told me that Mr Ellis wasn't able to call back on Tuesday but that he would call me back by the end of the day (Wednesday). So I waited and waited. Thursday afternoon and still no call back. Now it's Friday afternoon and I still have not received a response. Good thing I didn't need him right away. Definitely not the way to provide good or even fair service. I can't say how good a lawyer he is because I never even spoke with him but if this is any indication of his professionalism I would advise everyone to look elsewhere. read more

A while back I got a speeding ticket. Within a day of getting the ticket, I started getting letters from lawyers in the mail about defending me in the case. I wasn't going to bother, but then I thought if the fee isn't too bad, it maight be worth it. I responded to the first one I got in the mail which was Herbert Ellis. I called and left my info and was called back soon after by Mr Ellis. He explained what he does and when he was done I asked about his fee. All he would tell me is that he is very competitive with all the others and I should come in for a consultation and he would go over everything. I really didn't want to because if the fee was too high, this would be a waste of my time. I went in and met with him. He was 15 minutes late for our appointment, but I let that slide. He went over some info and gave me his fee. I thought I was going to puke on his table!!! I wont mention the fee, but I sadi to myself, how can that be for just a speeding ticket?? I said I would think about it and let them know. I left and when I got home I hit the phones. All the others were happy to give ther fee over the phone and Ellis was more than triple almost everyone else!!! Maybe he thought I would be impressed with his office?? I don't really know what the ploy was that I had to meet him to get the fee. If that was his plan, I can tell you I wasn't impressed. I knew one of the top trial attorneys in the country......his offices are half of the Woolworth Building in NYC.........Now that's impressive!! Maybe Ellis is a great attorney, I really can't say and at those prices I will never know. read more

Of course Mr. Ellis is going to defend his practice. I did not have 2 previous attorneys. I am not difficult. I just expect that when an attorney is going to get money for an almost "done deal" comp case that his firm would at least return a phone call. He did pay for a copy of my files. Standard procedure for a change of attorney. Nothing special. My phone calls were not returned. My comp nurse called there to ask for permission to speak with me. A new attorney needs to be notified. The nurse waited 2 days for a return call that did not come. I was in the process of seeking new treatment. I just happened to call her. I called the Ellis office and again my phone call was not returned. At that point, I decided to end our relationship. I am severely injured and in chronic pain for 4 years. It is very important that my attorney return phone calls to my comp nurse. He keeps sending letters to the court bad mouthing me. He can't just let it go. Needs to prove to everyone how he is right and I am wrong. Just stupid. Didn't realize I was that important. If he is so right, his reputation would speak for itself instead of him trying to convince everyone how great he is. Their office did nothing. I had one consultation with Ms. Chin. It was suppose to be an hour long. She knew NOTHING about my case. Totally clueless. Kept asking me about what happened. It was obvious that she had not opened the file. Thirty minutes of our time was spent answering phone calls and she cut it short by 15 minutes because her father and 2 children were waiting for her. That left 15 minutes. Then it was over 2 weeks and I had not heard from her in reference to changing venues. Every time I called, I was told she was in court. Calls were not returned. She was new to the firm and obviously overloaded with cases. Just be honest and say that. Don't keep stringing clients along. Some will take that treatment and others, like myself, will not. That doesn't make me difficult and impossible to satisfy. All I did was express dissatisfaction with the runaround I was getting. I have to check the exact dates that Mr. Ellis received my file and filed for a change of venue. I do not believe it was done as quickly as he claims it was. I never received a notice from the court because my address was not updated. I called the court and found out the date. Instead of writing to defend his practice, maybe Mr. Ellis should spend his time returning phone calls. If calling to find out what is going on my case is being obnoxious and difficult, then so be it. How long was I expected to stay on the phone with an ego-maniac who kept trying to convince me that I was wrong and he was right. He may good for a liability case with an open amount to sue for. But for a comp case with the settlement based on a scale, he is horrible. read more

I have known Mr ellis for over 20 years. I went to him with a case. At our meeting i was hugged, told i was like family. Now i have been diagnosed with chronic regional pain syndrome from a slip and fall. For someone who he considers a family member, not only has he not returned a phone call!!!!!!! HE HASN'T EVEN CALLED TO SEE HOW I AM. Mr. Ellis was very inconsiderate throughout our entire time consulting with him. He had promised us results that as more time went on, were delayed further out. My husbands case was important to Mr. Ellis just as long as it fit his time frame of convenience. He seemed to be more concerned with where he would be on scheduled court date than putting in effort to have it pushed to a closer date. I'd like to say I had a good experience but once I notified Mr. Ellis that we would not be moving forward, his response was that I saved him from a trip to the Courthouse. read more

Had a 'free' consult with Mr.Ellis who promised the world -in the beginning a low fee. Well, promises don't get results in court when your atty does not return your calls, you have to remind their office to do their job when it involves dates, court scheduling/re-scheduling and paperwork, your atty is nowhere to be found when you are in the courtroom for your hearing for 4 hours waiting for him. Promises do not help your case when you call the week before court to find out your atty is on vacation and they never re-scheduled your case AGAIN -but instead another atty will show up. Promises do not help when the second 'arrogant' atty does not care that everything on your paperwork is incorrect, rushes through the hearing, and runs out without a word to you to go to his other court cases leaving you standing there without any knowledge of what to do, where to go and no paperwork. Promises do not help when a week later you still cannot get in touch with anyone in his firm regarding the outcome/paperwork etc of your hearing. And promises to settle out of court/in municipal court or without charges go by the wayside and you end up THOUSANDS more for his bill to do...........nothing but get you what you were asking to bargain for 5 months and THOUSANDS of dollars ago in the first place. BAIT N SWITCH......DO NOTHING.....ARROGANCE....and no respect for clients.......but hey- a great BILL!!!! read more
