Back when I used to write a lot more reviews I repeatedly avowed my weakness for nachos. I cannot resist a plate of fried up tortillas smothered in melted cheese. Of course, you don't find nachos on a lot of menus in Europe, so I was pleasently surprised to find them on the menu here at Ellis. I ordered them without the slightest suspicion. Alas, my weakness led me astray today. What arrived at my table was a generous serving of tortilla chips topped with tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, and a big dallop of sour cream. But... ummm... where's the cheese? So I brought this up with my server, who was delightful, and I informed her that by definition nachos consist of tortilla chips and melted cheese. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Look up the difinition right now. Type "define nachos" into your search engine and tell me what you get. I did, just to be sure I was not off base.
Did you look it up? Don't continue until you do.
Much better. Back to our story. My waitress dutifully informed me that their kitchen does not have the capability of melting cheese and that's why their nachos do not have cheese. She did, however, take my nachos back to the kitchen to add the missing guacamole. But I was stuck on the fact that their kitchen is not capable of producing an item that is on their menu. Not capable. Have they considered removing nachos from the menu? Perhaps if they called it tortilla chips with toppings?
I realize that restaurant ratings have a certain element of randomness. Please forgive me for a review that's not about the burgers. Maybe they're delicious. I can only write about my experience and I ordered nachos and got something that was not nachos. 2 stars. read more
