This man traumatized my daughter. Now she's terrified of dentists.
After two horrendous appointments, I decided to pull my daughter from this facility. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but what my husband described to me was nothing short of a horror movie. My daughter had several cavities, some major, and others not quite so dire.
Her first appointment with him, my husband called me at work to tell me he could hear her screaming (at this point for 20 whole minutes). Afterwards, when he spoke with the receptionist (as I'd advised him to), she'd explained (per Schwartz who refused to come out to speak with my husband directly) that, "She was very upset and therefore wasn't inhaling the gas properly--so of course she's going to scream." For the second appointment, prior to my husband taking her, I noticed that one tooth was growing increasingly sensitive to brushing and causing her some pain.
My husband arrives at the office, and instead of being permitted to speak with Schwartz directly - is advised to pass on the message to the receptionist who in turn conveys our request to Schwartz. My husband wasn't too concerned because he said he could overhear the conversation and the receptionist had communicated our needs accurately.
And, again, my husband calls me at work to tell me she's SCREAMING. She is so loud - I could overhear my poor baby girl's cries over the phone at work (she's only 5). Afterwards, because she was so worn out and groggy, my husband collected her and left (after 40 minutes of screaming, I am sure she was exhausted) and brought her home.
Upon examining inside her mouth when I arrived home after work, I was appalled to discover that he'd proceeded to fix another tooth and left the one we had specifically requested he treat due to concerns of her being in pain.
Now, I was furious. Livid.
What dentist is going to ignore a parents request to treat a tooth that is hurting a child? Instead he focused on one that had a minor cavity that wasn't much of an issue or cause for concern, but blatantly ignored the crater that must be drawing close to a nerve if something as simple as brushing and eating are resulting in tears and whimpers.
The next morning I spoke with my daughter and asked her what her experience was like with Dr. Schwartz and her response gave me chills and massive shocks of guilt. "I could feel the drill," she told me. "And so I screamed. And kept screaming. But he kept using the drill. And the lady had to hold me in the chair."
Parents, please - avoid this man and his practice. read more
