The two dentists here, Dr Singer & Dr Tully, are usually pretty great. This review is more focused on Dee, the receptionist. She is very unhelpful, ignorant, unresponsive, and often lies. I had an incident with her where she told me my cleaning would involve no meeting with the dentist as they were out of town unless we rescheduled it. We rescheduled my appointment. Fine! After my appointment, she informed me that although I thought there would be $0 out of pocket expenses, as usual, my cost for the visit would actually be $100. That is no small surprise fee! Turns out it was because she rescheduled me from the dentist who is in network for my insurance to the one that isn't. When I asked her if there would have been this copay if I didn't see either dentist in person, she said no, there wouldn't have been. Another very nice woman who also works in the office had to come up to me to correct her and tell me that actually yes, there would have been. So is Dee lying or misinformed? If she's misinformed, how is she so misinformed about integral parts of her job? When I tried to get in touch with Dr Singer or Dr Tully about this issue, she firewalled me by saying that any questions or comments would have to go through her, and she would forward them along. Yeah right. As if you're going to forward a complaint about yourself. I think it's ridiculous that she's also preventing me from getting in touch with my own dentist 1-1. Due to Dee's irresponsible and malignant behavior, I've decided to unfortunately leave the practice. I hope she doesn't try the same shit on anyone else. read more

Was long overdue for a dentist appointment and checked out some local dental practices covered by my insurance. I have a genuine fear of the dentist but Dr. Singer and his great staff provided a warm easing experience. The staff is very thorough, professional, and knowledgable. The staff is never stoic, as they are quite friendly and upbeat. They were definitely able to accomodate my busy work schedule. They were aware that dental work is expensive regardless of insurance coverage, and they were very upfront and precise with their pricing. Fantastic practice! Both Dr. Singer and Dr. Tully are technically proficient and give detailed explanations of any work that needs to be done. I had some issues with sub-par work from my previous dentist, but Dr. Tully was able to fix the errors and I have been problem free since then. Hygienists are all very knowledge - significant step up from my previous experience. They have given great recommendations on how to improve dental health day to day. I saw Dr. Singer on April 11, 2018 for a standard cleaning. I hadn't been to the dentist in almost 6 years, and was bit apprehensive. The dental hygienist put me completely at ease, and the whole process was pretty pain-free. I then had x-rays done, and met with Dr. Singer. He was very thorough in assessing my teeth, even finding a potentially catastrophic issue with my bite, for which he referred me to an orthodontist to correct. read more

It took me several years to find the right dentist in palo alto area. The cleaning was good (of course, it's never comfortable to do these), the staff here are very friendly, and Dr. Elliot Singer wanted to see the progress of a small black spot (maybe cavity) I have, rather than suggesting cavity fillings right at the moment. Personally, I do not want to go back to dentists where they tell me to do a bunch of things which requires a whole lot of $$$. I've only been here once. I know I am in the minority here but I had a very different experience. I went in for a cleaning after not going for 2 years. I also don't have dental insurance and went in before starting a new job because I didn't want more time to go by before I had a cleaning. I let them know up front that I would be paying for this visit and will have dentai insurance by the end of summer. First I must say that Valerie at the front desk is lovely and very professional. The woman who took my X-Rays was also fantastic. She was gentle as I have a small pallet and needed the child size film for a few pictures. I thought their equipment was great and modern. I also went in to have Dr Singer look at replacing 4 veneers as they were very old and could be improved. The woman who did my cleaning was sensitive to the fact that I was a bit nervous and for the most part took very good care of me. During the cleaning she showed me why I needed a deep cleaning. I agreed with her and she pushed me to set up an appointment right then and there for the next day. This was in the exam room during the cleaning that she set it up. Dr Singer then came in.. My expectations were high about how great he was and how easy to talk to etc from reading the reviews. I know for sure that he is an expert in his field, but what I can't get over was him telling me that I have a very "unattractive smile" His exact words. He then went into detail about getting new veneers but also talked about shaving my gums and possibly breaking the roof of my mouth to widen it as I have a small pallet. That was a lot of information in the first 15 minutes of meeting him. During the consult he was matter of fact, unfriendly and repeatedly told me about my unattractive smile. I still made a follow up appointment with him to take molds. When I went to the front desk, I realized that the hygienist never mentioned the cost of the deep cleaning for the next day. I asked Valerie and it was $900.00! Now, I believe I should have this procedure but I also think that I should have been told upfront the cost. I left with my follow ups scheduled and realized after my drive home and talking to a few people that I shouldn't go back to a place that really made me sad. I cancelled the appointments. Bad smile or not, no one wants to hear that and especially from someone you just met. read more

I've been coming this little office on Cal ave since I was a little kid. I always saw Dr. Jones. He's alright. But now Jones is retiring and Dr.Singer is taking over, not the biggest fan of him. I came in because I had a cavity. He recommended a root canal "just to be on the safe side". I didn't know what a root canal was, so I did some research and found out that it is kind of a heavy duty procedure and from looking at my X-ray it didn't seem necessary at all. I came back and made my case, and after about 15 min of discussing it and sticking to my points. He confessed: "Yea, if it was my own kid, I'd probably just fill it as a cavity" WTF? Since I'm not your kid you will recommend the more expensive and invasive procedure? To his credit he was honest in the end. And he filled the cavity and it's now ~2 years later and I haven't had an issue. But I won't be coming back here again. Please don't upsell me on a dental procedures I don't need. I never thought my first Yelp review would be for a dentist, but - well, here we are. Just like the rest of you, I fear going to the dentist. Who knows what painful procedures they'll deem necessary, right? I hadn't been to a dentist in 3 years, either, so I was more than a little hesitant to make an appointment. I looked on Yelp, of course, to find a dentist, and I found Dr. Jones, who had rave reviews. I called to make an appointment and was told that Dr. Jones was no longer taking new patients (he's retiring, apparently) - but that the other new dentist in the office, Dr. Singer, was. I made an appointment anyway, despite the lack of Yelp reviews for Dr. Singer. I can't wait to go back! I had a fantastic experience. The administrator was extremely friendly, but not in a saccharin-kinda way. The assistant, Gemma, was very personable, and she made taking those painful full mouth x-rays a whole lot less terrible. Dr. Singer was patient and actually really funny - it's too bad his hands were in my mouth for so much of the time, since it would have been fun to have a longer chat. He was telling me all about how he's planning to take the office from the 1970's into the 2010's and was lamenting the soft rock on the radio that I told him matched the décor... All in all, an awesome experience - which isn't something you'd normally hear from someone after a dentist visit. Can't wait to see the new place after the renovations are done! I followed Dr Singer to his new practice in Palo Alto when he moved from one in Berkeley, having had great work done by him there. Need I say more? An excellent dentist with a very helpful staff - they made the tricky world of dental insurance easy for me to navigate. The practice itself is looking a little dated, with an interesting 60's "Mad Men" vibe. Dr Singer mentioned that he's redecorating as part of his move, but when you're in the chair the only thing that matters is how good the dentist is. Dr. Singer is the best! (I can't believe I'm writing a review for my dentist.) The office is really cute. My husband and I keep talking about it. But that's not why we go to the dentist, is it? I have had a cleaning (by Dr. Singer himself) as well as a filling. I must say that both procedures have been the most comfortable, painless I have ever had. He is very concerned about his patient's comfort. I just had my filling today, and usually at other offices I can feel the filling afterwards. Not today. My wife and I went for our first cleaning with Dr. Singer last week. We were in for a pleasant surprise. The office is well decorated - he is obviously a man of good taste. Both he and his staff were extremely friendly and made us feel extremely comfortable. We walked in a few minutes early to find him vacuuming. He explained that usually his front desk girl did this, but wanted the place to look good before opening. He then did his best to figure out what paper work to give us and get us checked in. The surprise was that he gave the cleanings. He was extremely gentle, but thorough. One kinda downside (but not really) is how chatty he is. The conversations were great, but hard to do when you are horizontal with metal objects in your mouth. :) So glad we found such a great dentist. 5 stars! read more

I started seeing Dr. Singer a few years ago after experimenting with a few dentists in the area. It's hard to overstate how highly I regard him. I've never been happy with my teeth. I was about to have another area dentist file them down and put on veneers, but I was nervous about the trade-offs. I decided to get an opinion from Elliot. Elliot worked with me to create a plan for improving my teeth without replacing them with veneers. He set me up with a root canal for a discolored dead front tooth, which turned out fabulously. Next, he set me up with Invisilign to re-align my teeth. A year later, that's worked out very well. Then, he replaced a gap filling in the front of my mouth and made it look tons better. There's still more tweaks to be done, but I'm loving how it is going--and it's all my real teeth, which is really fantastic. I've come to understand that what sets Elliot apart is his perfectionism--an intense attention to detail and a willingness to go the extra mile to achieve those perfect results. He doesn't set unrealistic expectations by any means, but I'm comfortable that in his hands, I'll get the best possible results. An easy five stars for a true artist. read more

After 2.5 years with Dr Singer I moved up to SF and have a new dentist - now I realize how great I had it with Dr S. Gets to the point, nice guy, thorough, I trust him - feel like he knows what he is doing. Talked through treatment options without over-selling (unlike this SF dentist!!), he wanted me to have good oral health rather than to make money off me. Also the hygienist here is the best hygienist I have had in my life ever. I don't even know her name, just know her as "amazing hygienist". Front desk also good, helped me understand insurance and were patient with my questions about what was covered, proactively suggested ways to reclaim more which I wasn't aware of. I went to Dr. Singer several times a few months ago (before I had a Yelp account) but was so impressed that I still feel compelled to write a review. Every dentist I've ever been to has told me I have terrible teeth (thin enamel); unfortunately, I'm also a grad student without dental insurance. Having not been to the dentist few a few years, I went to Dr. Singer's office (1) because I had a loose filling and (2) because I knew that despite diligent dental hygiene, I probably had some blossoming cavities. The first thing I noticed was, much to my delight, they play classical music in the office. Every single other dentist I've been to has played smooth jazz elevator music that was itself more painful than any drilling or poking in my mouth. Next, Dr. Singer was more than willing to work with me to keep costs down, including finding ways to reduce the number of X-rays necessary. For the teeth that did need to be drilled, Dr. Singer made a point of showing me exactly where the problems were on the X-rays, and talked about which ones were more important to get done now and which ones could be put off for a year or two until I get dental insurance. The actual work was, somehow, much less painful than any other dental work I've had done, and he does an amazing job. Dr. Singer clearly knows what he's doing (I believe I heard he used to teach at the dental school at the University of Pennsylvania), and he and everybody in his office are incredibly friendly. I never thought I would say this about a dentist's office, but I actually had a pleasant experience having teeth drilled here. read more

I haven't had a dentist I've liked since I moved to Palo Alto many years ago. I've seen several. When I walked into Dr. Singer's office, it was like a breath of fresh air. The staff is courteous. Dr. Singer is friendly and knowledgeable. And, everyone is detail oriented. As a physician, I am extremely picky about my providers. I know who is well trained and who is pretending. Dr. Singer did residencies in two countries, a fellowship at a prestigious US institution, and was an academic dentist for many year. He's as well trained as it gets and it shows. I am just moving to the area, broke a tooth for the first time in my life yesterday morning, and called Dr. Elliot Singer's office exactly at 8 AM when they opened. My call was taken in a pleasant manner and an appointment scheduled for later in the day at their first opening. Upon arrival, I found the office to be neat, clean, and orderly. The staff was professional, friendly, and helpful in answering any questions I had. I was brought to an exam room almost immediately after completing the obligatory paperwork. Just as I was seated, Dr. Singer arrived, introduced himself (a very friendly man who shares my love/hate relationship for Philadelphia), reviewed my health history, and then asked me to tell him exactly what had happened with my tooth that morning. He evaluated the damage, ordered x-rays, and then came back in to review them with me and provide his recommended course of action. Dr. Singer epitomizes quality service, as was evidenced by not only his approach and demeanor, but also the approach and demeanor of his staff. As if this were not enough, I returned today for a cleaning while I wait for my appointment to begin fixing my broken tooth. Today I met with Dr. Marie Josee Landry. I guess I shouldn't be shocked, but I was, with just how friendly, polite, professional, and thorough she was during my visit today. After years of having multiple crowns placed on a tooth and being in pain when seeing OTHER dentists, Dr. Singer was the first dentist to be honest with me. Instead of just trying to sell me on new procedures (let's put a post in it! let's try a 3rd root canal and then a 4th new crown!), we decided to pull the tooth after also consulting an oral surgeon and an implant doctor. I grilled both of them on Dr Singer - and they spoke very highly of him. In fact, my implant doctor said I was lucky to have found him (I'm new to the area and just found him via Yelp). Great dentist! Great work! For me it comes down to two things: 1) high quality work and 2) painless as possible. Dr. Singer excels in both. I just had five old silver fillings removed and replaced with white composite fillings by Dr. Singer. His work is excellent! It is some of the best dentistry I've seen. I no longer have a mouth that looks like a machine shop but one that looks like the completely natural mouth I'm supposed to have. Each filling took about 30 minutes. I put a star because it s impossible to publish without stars. This dentist DR SINGER is the most horrible dentist I ever met in my life. His only goal is to make money, nothing else. I have a crown fallen down for the first time in 4 years. everybody know that it happens. I have no infection, no cavities no broken teeth or crown, the crown just fell down for the first time. He told me that there is no other solution than to put an implant (its about 50000 dollars) .He didn't want to put me back my crown inside my mouth until I ask many times, ( I supply him) above all to do an implant, you need nearly 1 year , and he put it with a provisory cement so my crown fall down again ( but he told me your crown will fell down again, of course if you put a provisory cement ....)..... I have to go back home in France and see my dentist who told me that the crown can fell down, it happens sometimes that the implant can fell down too and that it s little too invasive to put an implant with safe roots. Don t go to this robber, he is not a dentist he is a banker. No compassion, no explanations, he decides for yourself.....but the fact is I know a lot about crowns, at least French dentists explain everything. NEVER GO TO THIS OFFICE read more
