In a town just big enough to house all the chain stores, sadly a fair few of the local, independent outlets have sunk without trace. No such fears for The Giled Cage tough, which has seen off more recessions than you've had hot dinners, and would still be selling trendy gifts, trinkets and ornaments even if the Russians fired a few nuclear warheads at us tomorrow. In a shop that wouldn't cease trading for the apocalypse, there's no such thing as a downturn, and having a monopoly on Falkirk's quirky gift market has seen it stay continually busy for at least the two and a half decades I've been on this planet. Probably longer. From lovey handmade soft toys for babies to Momiji dolls for teens and more boring stuff for grannies, if you need a gift for someone female, yu're guaranteed to strike gold in here. Friendly staff as well, including the owner, who's practically a local celebrity.

They are constantly changing their stock and their window displays so a visit here is never dull and there's always something new to have a nosey at. A while back they had a whole shelf with merchandise from "The Hungriest Caterpillar" books to mark it's 40th anniversary, G-Bot bought me a gorgeous tray from this collection and it's one of my favourite items, it's to beautiful to be used as an old breakfast tray though. They always have gorgeous jewellery, ornaments, vases, home ware and quirky wee knick knacks such as gorgeous compact mirrors and card cases. In addition to this they also have a large selection of Momiji dolls and they even have a Momiji machine where you put in £2 and get a little surprise, I once even won a packet of Momiji tissues as a prize too. A star also has to go to the staff who are always friendly and helpful and every customer is always served with a smile. Bravo!

Was at the garden centre this morning, had coffee and scone with my partner in the cafe , on the…read moreway out saw a pair of lunar shoes, witch I liked and decided to buy them they were priced at£39.99 they were scanned at the till I had a rewards voucher for £2.50, the assistant then said my sale would be £45.49, I pointed to the price on the box, She then got a supervisor who said all the shoes with the thicker sole are £47.99, I Informed her that they were all priced at £39.99, the white shoe in that style, witch she then said they were wrongly price, I did take the shoes as I liked them, this is an £8.00 difference, and would like to think in future that y staff are more careful with your prices,

I called in here the other day and was very impressed with the beautiful crafts on sale. This is…read morethe only dedicated fair trade shop in West Lothian so well worth a visit. There is a large range of fair trade goodies including chocolate, scarves and bags, gorgeous clothes, exotic jewellery and various unusual toys. There are also many small purses, felt brooches, key rings, sparkly boxes and other trinkets which won't break the bank. The owner of the shop is a lovely lady who is very helpful when asked for something but is equally happy for customers to just browse around to their hearts' content. It's open 10am to 5pm but closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

this is a fabulous florist. the shop is situated opposite the plough hotel. they do beautiful…read morebouquets at very reasonable prices. you can phone up and tell the woman what you would like and somehow she always gets it so right that it often looks even better than you imagined. the staff are all very friendly and considerate of your feelings, for example if your calling to order a wreath, for a funeral they may make suggestions and you can rely on them to get it just right and you wont have to worry again about it.
