What a perfect little spot - and no problems or hiccups whatsoever (this is Taos, so that's kind of a big deal). I was a little leery of this boutique transformation of the old Indian Hills Motel property, but we were just blown away by how nice Hotel Willa is; kudos to Casetta Hotels! Every employee was friendly in a genuine way; the grounds and rooms are _spotless_ and the vibe is just wonderful. It's easy to forget you're in town . . . but it's a quick walk to the Plaza and great restaurants once you step out front. Free parking. Quiet and totally efficient heating and cooling (we used both in April). Fantastic sleep (it's QUIET) on a remarkably comfortable bed. TV has a variety of music, Netflix, Prime in addition to a variety of programming. The onsite restaurant Juliette is more than just a bar - yes, everyone raves about the green chile cheeseburger, but do yourself a favor and go deeper into the (reasonably priced!) menu. Free coffee in the morning. Tons of places to sit and relax. Hammocks. Sling chairs. Benches. Rocks. Gorgeous and well maintained landscaping. Great pool (heated) and hot tub/jacuzzi, plus exercise room and sauna/cold plunge. (The one suggestion for improvement is that the rain shower spatters outside the shower room a bit.) We'll be back - we've stayed in several Taos properties and enjoyed them to various degrees, but we've never found a place that "clicked" for us as well as Willa.

There's also an ale house right next door, so it's definitely walking distance from most of the action in town. The casitas have a kiva fireplace, separate bedroom, living area, and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc. The bedroom was a little tight, but the size is appropriate for the age of the casita. The mattress was a little firm for my taste, but they supply plenty of pillows, so I eventually made my own pillow-top mattress out of all of the extra pillows. The bedroom had a ceiling fan and a portable electric fan, which was barely adequate in the unusually hot weather. 88 degrees is HOT in Taos (sounds silly having fled the 106 Texas heat), but most places like this in Taos don't have AC. The parking lot is really tight. We asked if there was parking for a 16' trailer before we booked and they said there was. However, in reality, there is not extra parking and it was really tight turning into the parking lot off the street. They did accommodate us parking the trailer along the rail, but we felt like we were in everyone else's way by doing so. The moral to the story is: if you are pulling a trailer, stay somewhere else that had easier, more convenient parking. The complex also had a hot tub, which I'm sure is great in the winter. I used it one night for a few minutes, but the weather was too warm to really enjoy it. There is a nice fenced area for the hot tub that had tables and a chiminea, which we enjoyed with our friends. The only real annoyance was that the facility lost power multiple times each nigh. Between that and the area noise (having to have all of the windows open), it was hard to get a good night's sleep. Casita #2 also needs to have curtains or blinds installed over the door as it's mostly glass and is a straight shot to the bedroom. All in all, the place is friendly and a good place to stay, especially if you're wanting to spend time in the many galleries or shops around the plaza.

Rates are pretty inexpensive (about $120 a night for two), the place is relaxing and laid back (but no b&b feel, if you know what I mean). You have your own private area, can walk to the square and the heart of the Taos shopping dining district, have the use of a hot tub and charcoal grill (and even a small kids play area). I try to go back at least once a year - sometimes with the kids or other family, sometimes just with my hubby. We've stayed in four of the cabins and each is nice in it's own way.

During our stay, the hotel was nearly empty, which made the long second-floor hallway, old doors, creaking floors, and deep silence feel especially dramatic. At one point, I caught the unmistakable scent of rose perfume in the hallway. It appeared for only a second and then vanished completely. The hotel has long been associated with stories of unexplained rose fragrance, and experiencing it firsthand was unforgettable. Later that evening, four frightened college students asked us to investigate noises and a shadow they believed they had seen in their room. We found nothing supernatural, but they were frightened enough to leave the hotel in the middle of the night. Our own qualifications as paranormal investigators were somewhat compromised by martinis. I also searched unsuccessfully for a rumored trap door beneath the carpet and managed a brief look into the hotel's supposedly forbidden room. No ghosts appeared, but I did emerge from the carpet covered in decades of dust. The entire experience was funny, eerie, memorable, and completely unique to the St. James, and I have returned several times. What stays with me most is the feeling of the place. Food was pretty good. Had a salad and added a chili relleno for $5. It was very well prepared, although the salad of mostly spring mix, a few cucumbers and tomatoes was not worth $14. Partner had a steak--said it was ok. "Seasonal vegetables" were just plain kernal corn. Giving this place three stars for food, but the historic charm is the real reason to give it a try. The restaurant was only open Thursday through Saturday in February, so check hours if you want to eat. You can also just stop by and take a look in the lobby and parts of the hotel. The staff doesn't mind.

My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I would give this place 7 stars ( 2 bonus stars)

We'd love to go back and spend more time. One thing that wasn't in the space was oil, but there were so many things, salt, pepper, baggies, complimentary items, pillow spray, and chocolate. We did have two property cats that followed us into our cabin when we were unloading the car and didn't notice until later on. They were sweet cats, but we did shoo them out. I at least assumed they are cats that stay around ti keep away the mice.

For those who live in the Denver area it's only 4+ hours drive. I got to talk to the owner (the husband of the married couple) just this morning when I was having an Avocado Toast in the dining room. He worked in the corporate America for 25+ years. When he got tired of it he and his wife bought this hotel. It had been abandoned by the previous owner for some time so after he had purchased it he renovated the entire premises to turn it into what is now today. He and his wife certainly have great tastes in everything as the charm they created is simply bonita. Depending on the room you choose, it's equipped with a beautiful copper bath tub that can easily hold two people. The water that comes out of the faucet is pure, twice filtered deep aquifer well water. And the healing power of cooper will ease all sorts of aches and pains. The exquisiteness of soaking in such a tub is of an experience you can't enjoy at home. If you end up staying here, eating breakfast in the designated dining room is a must. They grow their own vegetables in their garden which is served in most of the dishes listed on the menu. At night, enjoy stargazing in the parking lot or the outdoor fireplace just right outside of the dining room. The number of stars you can gaze upon makes your stay more memorable and mesmerizing. Giving this place 5 stars is a humiliation; it deserves at least 10 or more stars. This place is that great. I can't wait to come back here. I might do that maybe next weekend (lol!!)
