First and last stay here. Ever. We were given a room on the third floor with no elevator. The walls are paper thin so you hear everybody's conversations loud and clear all night long. No cups in the room to even take a drink of water. A TV with only four channels. No air conditioning or heat so it was extremely uncomfortable. Do not stay here! The room was very outdated for $130/night. Super cheesy paper signs everywhere. The employees didn't know how to run a credit card machine and we had to go down multiple times to get that straightened out. Went down for breakfast and had at least 3 dogs barking at me, 1 was aggressive. Please control your dogs. No milk for cereal. The heating system in the room is a space heater. Spend the extra money to stay somewhere nice. This place was disgusting! The building smelled weird, had trash everywhere, my sheets had blood stains on them, the furniture looked like it was 20+years old with gross stains on the walls and everything else. The curtain rod fell off the wall just trying to close the curtains. Also, the windows have no screens (no AC) so at night I had bugs all over the walls in my room. I'm not sure why it said there's a pool because there defiantly isn't one. I will NEVER stay here again! Disgusting! Stayed at Elk Horn Lodge this past weekend and I have to say it is indeed one of the best places I've ever stayed at . The rooms are perfect an make you feel like you're in a cabin. Ms. Nancy (the owner) by far exceeded our expectations with breakfast and great recommendations of places to visit. She also has horseback riding up a mountain trail and sleigh rides as well. I would NOT RECOMMEND even booking here, but for your knowledge , the website says WiFi is available but it's not available in all the cabins !!!!! THEY DO DOT DISCLOSE THIS ! I know you are all thinking it's 2018 and everywhere has WiFi, because I thought this too! 12 hours people !!! Beware of lack of security! Outside door remains unlocked, no onsite night manager and flimsy room doors/locks make this is an insecure lodge. Our room was not cleaned once during a 3-day stay! Wifi was weak and only a handful of TV channels to watch so bring a book. I will say it did have plenty of hot water and free cooked to order breakfast are pluses. read more

BEST FOOD IN TOWN!!! One of the locals informed me of the restaurant inside and I'm glad they did! Breakfast is served all day, and everything is made from scratch. The burgers are huge and the hand cut homemade fries are out of this world. The ribeye steaks are hand cut and cooked to order the green and red chili are scratch made daily authentic New Mexican food all around. The staff was very friendly the fireplace was on and cozy. I stayed at this lodge over the Christmas season of 2016. My low rating is attributed to the mismatch between the price we paid (200+/night) and the service we received. Compared to price of other places in the area, I highly recommend going elsewhere. The whole place is run very cheaply and is very disorganized. Issues include but are not limited to: 1. Lack of a professional management team. It's run by an elderly couple who just don't know how to provide high quality service. There is no phone in the room to reach a non-existent front desk, and there is no one to provide any service at night after they go to sleep. 2. Dirty towels, sheets, and a lack of general amenities, including a hair dryer, cups, bottled water, a land line, etc. 3. Low quality meals provided, albeit some of them are free. 4. We did not receive maid service, which in my opinion should be a given, and had to complain to receive it. 5. Really, really thin walls. 6. Really small rooms with dirty floors, especially for the price we paid. 7. Lack of quality TV channels 8. Bunch of dirty dogs run free in the lower floor. 9. Amazingly slow internet service. 10. Unable to control the temperature in the room. There is a thermostat, but it doesn't actually do anything. I was so freaking cold. 11. Water pressure in the shower turns super weak after 5 minutes on. There were a lot more issues, but I can't think of them of the top of my head. The only good things about this place was the location (close to ski resort and in a nice plaza area with good food) and it had a nice view. The couple running the place are friendly, although they don't really know how to run the place. Again, I highly recommend going elsewhere, as I feel very cheated out of my money. *fourth paragraph down is where the review objectively starts I've never left a review on Yelp in my many years of using it to find great restaurants, cafes, breweries, etc., but after staying at the Elkhorn Lodge I've made the decision to start, or, at the very least leave a review for this place, as it deserves it more so than anywhere else. I've been on quite a long cycling journey across the United States, and most times opt to camp or couch surf with people but, from time to time, decide to stay in a motel/inn. The day I arrived in Angel Fire I had cycled up from Las Vegas, and it was a long, hard, though beautiful, day, and I was feeling rather ragged and uninterested in finding a spot to camp, so I thought to give this place a call. I talked to Nancy on the phone and she persuaded me to swing on by. I got there a few minutes later, wandered in and poked my head around a bit thinking it was a comfortable, cozy looking place. She came out from the kitchen and I introduced myself as the guy she had talked to on the phone, though she suspected that immediately. I could pretty much tell right away she was a kind, warm-hearted, woman. We got to talking about my trip, which she was really impressed by, and the light of fascination and admiration shone in her eyes. We talked further about the lodge, which she's in the beginnings of making over, as she's had really terrible luck with finding competent people to run it for her while she attended to her other business (tours of the region on horseback), but, with an admirable astuteness, intelligence and wisdom realized that these people (one in particular) who had really damaged the business for her also did her a great favor in helping her to realize that if she was going to run a business, and she really loved that business, that she needs to be there for it, and so now she's working on improving things (although there seems to me very little that needs improving). Eventually I made my way up to my room which I was surprised to see had a balcony on it that faced the ski slopes (now downhill mountain bike slopes). The room was clean and spacious, the bathroom stocked with far more than what I needed, and the mattress probably the most comfortable I've slept on perhaps ever. It felt a lot like a memory foam mattress. Just perfect. Anyway, I ended up joining her for a snack later on in the dining area, which was where I was first nosing about when I arrived, and continued our conversation that ranged from my journey, to her journey with the lodge, to her horseback adventures business, to the beauty of New Mexico, people, life, etc., etc. There weren't too many people staying at the lodge while I was there, so at busier times I don't think she'd be able to give so much attention to individual guests (no one could), but just the fact that she was so curious and had the time and inclination to sit down with me is something I'll never forget. It was truly a fantastic stay at the Elkhorn Lodge that was pushed way over the top having been able to connect so personally and deeply with the owner, Nancy. Oh, and the price is fantastic considering what you get, like A REAL BREAKFAST. None of the disgusting garbage every franchise/chain motel serves (bad waffles, sausage, biscuits, gravy, "eggs," cereal, etc.). Here there is a a kitchen where a proper breakfast is cooked and served--bacon, potatoes, eggs, toast, coffee, actual orange juice. I mentioned how comfortable my room and bed was already. AWFUL I really like mom-n-pop motels but this place is beyond bad. Let's see..room stank - best guess combo of past pet accidents and heavy floral air spray (roses on shit); rude staff when asking location of amenities listed on expedia (none of which exists..inn on small parking lot no amenities). Turning on bathroom faucet results in explosive spray soaking shirts and pants. Coffee maker, tissue, hair dryer...no such things. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elkhorn Lodge as we spent the week mountain biking at Angel Fire. The Elkhorn is not fancy, but the rooms are clean and the staff is very nice. Nancy (owner) really went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome, including serving us a made-to-order breakfast every morning. The ranch dogs hanging out in the lobby were friendly and helped add to the charm of this rustic lodge. We'll definitely be back! read more

Worst food ever do not eat at the restaurant. We ordered two burgers with Fry's. Fry's where not cooked through and totally full of grease. My husband ordered a borrito. It came out totally wrong i.e.no beans and rice as it said on the.menue husband asked for chilli on the side and that Never came out at all. My husband did not even eat half of it.. that is saying a lot since we where all hungry from skiing all day. We also had a order of cheese quesadilla you can't possibly mess that up but it was . My husband and me were on a small scouting trip around the Northern New Mexico area looking for places to camp with the RV. After having been on the road since 9 am it was 930 pm when we drove into Angel Fire looking for a place to spend the night, our last destination was supposed to be Red River but everything was sold out as was everything in Eagles Nest. As we drove down Main Street in Angel Fire we looked for a sign of Vacancy. We saw one at the Elk Horn Lodge although it looked closed . We pulled into the parking lot, the office was indeed closed, HOWEVER on the door of the office were white envelopes with a key and a registration paper to a few rooms, Written on the envelopes were the room number the bed size /room size and the price of the room. If you are interested in staying which we were you simply fill out the paper drop it in a drop box and take the key and head to your room, in the morning when office opens up you finish taking care of business. The setup is largely based on the honor system. It is such a wonderful idea for a weary traveler who just needs a good night sleep. We head up to our room, in the common were some reading chairs some books and magazines and a microwave. It's a quaint setting. In our room was a king size be a TV with ROKU, an apartment size fridge and more than enough towels and toiletries. The bed was so comfy and the bathroom was perfectly clean. We showered and slept very well. In the morning we went down to the office and met up with owner Nancy. We conversed for a while about our stay and what brought us there so late and so on. She was genuine in her interest. She talked about the restaurant which is connected to the lodge. She said it was home cooking so we decided to try it, couldn't be any worse than chain food that we'd been eating for two days. We ordered our food and coffee and while we were waiting Nancy came over to our table and visited with us some more. Our breakfast was very good, simple homemade food. The place is not fancy but is extremely comfortable friendly and more sincere than any place we've ever been, we have traveled quite a bit throughout the country. My friend and I decided to stay in Angelfire for a third day of snowboarding and were recommended The Elkhorn Lodge by a local. We were met in the lobby by a sweet older lady and a small herd of cuddly and playful dogs. We went up to our room and found a spacious room with a very comfortable king bed and our own private balcony overlooking the ski area. We woke up in the morning and had a home cooked meal catered to us being vegetarian which was absolutely delicious. If you're planning on staying anywhere else while you're visiting Angelfire, we would highly recommend you reconsider! Thank you so much Elkhorn Lodge for the incredible hospitality!
