Happened upon Gary and Elk River Automotive when my sons car had some serious issues and broke down while driving through the area. I called at 8 am Monday morning and my son took it to them shortly after. By the time I arrived at 10 am - Gary had diagnosed the issues and worked up a quote. I found them to be fair, honest, and friendly and while it was not a cheap repair - their prices were competitive with quotes I had back home (labor rate actually quite a bit lower than those in a big city). Horrible customer service. They didn't have my name, my number, my car type, or my reason for visitation; only the time of my appointment (even though I called multiple times). I waited a month for an appointment and 4 hours for a simple fix, despite the fact that they were not busy. I called to check on it, rep asked the mechanic, and I heard in the background "yeah I finished that in like 30 minutes". Glad I called because they STILL did not have my call back number on file, even though I was promised a call when it was ready. My friends car, her first she ever had on her own in her 50 plus years, broke down a few days after the 30 day mark. My roommate's family use them all the time and since I am from Florida I jumped at the chance my friend wouldnt be forced to play "Auto-Tech Roulette". My friend was devastated to hear it was in fact in need of a transmission. $6K she paid for the car down the drain, but even though I dealt mostly with April after the initial call with G. The owner, they both couldn't have been nicer, understood my friend was really upset and they even offered advice how to salvage something from this clear buyers remorse (Of the car, not the service at ER Automotive) They even broke down why the cost to replace the transmission was so costly, due to the cars manufacturing copyright and trademark monopolies on its parts and programming. I've also heard from MANY people that there is no need for second opinions in hopes of a lower quote, as I've been told they are fair to begin with, lower than larger city quotes and diagnostic integrity/accuracy is always spot on. They also gave her plenty of time to decide what to do and never once was threatened with storage fees (Though eventually I feel they have a right to impose one if advised, however that's often not the case with the more shady underbelly that sometimes surfaces of this industry and from my experience and what I have witnessed and heard since moving here from Florida almost three years ago, Elk River Auto is anything but shady, even when so many are using Covid as an excuse to exploit a few more Benjamins). I never once questioned their integrity or diagnosis as I fell asleep at the end of the day, where in the past at other places I just felt I was being taken, or that something didn't seem right.
