This site was one of several stagecoach stops for travelers crossing the Rockies and a post office for the area as well. It is steeped in historical value and so well maintained! The museum even offers costumes and props in the back room which used to be used for stagecoach patrons to grab a hot meal on their journey, as well as a stagecoach full size prop that can be climbed for photos and to bring history to life. The main reason we visited was the connection to Doc Susie (who was the main inspiration for the Dr Quinn Medicine Woman character). Susan Anderson MD lived in Fraser for many years and visited the homestead to collect and send mail and they have recently acquired several of her personal items which are on display on the second floor. They have lots of artists, most Colorado 'local' with a few others thrown in for good measure. In addition to the beautiful furniture, they have lamps, metalwork, candles, textiles, jewelry, wall art, etc. If you're looking for a statement piece, they have ski lift benches and some larger wooden wall art. Immediately across the street from the Central City Opera House, the building alone is worth a visit. The friendly gallery manager, Michelle, will happily recount its fascinating history, not the least of which it is the oldest continuously occupied building in Colorado. The front portion of the gallery houses a diverse and affordable collection of works by local artists including pottery, photos, prints, cards, jewelry, wood, fiber art, etc., etc. Many gift worthy items. The rear very funky gallery hosts changing exhibits. I plan to return for the Mile High International Pastel Exhibit beginning April 9, 2022. (The fronts of the boxes were labeled with sizes) I said I understood and she said again that size was large while almost laughing. I was looking for a thumb ring but either way you shouldn't make fun of your customers. I decided against the ring but while I was looking at post cards this lady ran her mouth again to the other younger lady she was working with. She asked her if she had any tattoos, said good when she said no and then they both looked at me and my tattoos and said they were gross and would look bad when you get older. I was fully wanting to buy a ring and a postcard or two when I walked in but after that I decided I didn't want a cent of my money possibly going to that cranky lady.

Have never been treated so rudely as I did by this shop owner. His dog was very fixated on me (a…read morebig dog I do not know), would not stop sniffing and following me. So I simply asked, " Can you call your dog?" to which he replied, " If you don't like dogs then leave." So we did. I like dogs just fine, just not being blocked from passing through an aisle by one. It made me uncomfortable, and as a customer that seemed a reasonable request.
