SHADY BUSINESS. BEWARE!!!…read more Just to be clear, this is the Spirit Airline of car rental places. And even that's being nice. It is only a matter of time before they go the same path as the now-bankrupt airline. First, you arrive and there's a sign on the closed building that says to call a number so you may pick up your car. (There's a lock box for each car with keys inside.) The sign brags "NO WAITING!" It took me 3 phone calls (the second one disconnected after I was on hold several minutes) and two rings of the doorbell on the building. After 40 (FORTY!!!) minutes, the sign in process took another 20-30. The wiper fluid in the car was out. They have no one to replace it or do maintenance. NOW FOR THE SHADY (illegal?!) STUFF! They required a refundable deposit ($500) on my bank card (a debit/credit card). They informed me that if I used it, it would be a $100 charge for a debit card. "It's also a credit card." We can't charge it as a credit card, they said. BULLSHIT #1. It was actually $106, so that's BULLSHIT #2. Then when I bring it back a day later, there was someone there. He checks out the car and accepts the keys without any fanfare. I'm waiting for my deposit back. One day. Two days. Three days. The fourth day, I e-mail looking for my deposit and they give me this BULLSHIT SUPREME: "As part of our standard process, security deposits are held for 10-20 business days after your rental period to allow for inspection and any necessary deductions. This period is in place to ensure that any potential damages, fines, or fees can be assessed accurately." Okay, let's break this down: 1) 10-20 days?!!! 2) "...to allow for inspection"?? THEY INSPECTED THE CAR WHEN I RETURNED IT!!! 3) "...any potential damages..." THEY RENTED THE CAR TO OTHER CUSTOMERS WHO COULD DO DAMAGE TO THE CAR!" So this is obviously a scam. My best guess is that they take your deposit and put it in the bank as long as they can to earn interest before returning it to you. I did not wait around to see if they would come back with some reason for assessing damages to a car I no longer had as I called my bank to get them to get my deposit back for me. (Thank you, B of A.) The whole thing cost me over $200 for less than 24 hours. So you're not saving money if you think, "Well, at least they're cheap!" Again, the least we can hope for is that 24seven Rent a Car goes out of business soon so it doesn't affect any more consumers. Even better would be for those in charge of this business to be prosecuted for their shady (criminal?) operations. The only recommendation I can give you in the strongest terms possible is to STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY WHILE THEY'RE STILL IN BUSINESS. One star is far too many.
