We will have memories to last years from our experience and recommend this school to anyone in the west Omaha area looking for the right school.

I have sent my 4 kids to 3 different Montessori schools over the last 11 years. Our first…read moreexperience (with a different Montessori school) was incredible but that school was bought out and the family first community and vibe quickly dissipated. After that, we were lucky enough to come across Montessori Academy of West Omaha. First and foremost, I have always felt as though each individual family is treated not only as family (as cliche as that sounds,) but the school understands each family's unique wants and needs. I am a teacher and wanted my kids home with me over the summer months, this is one of the only Montessori schools in Omaha that not only allows that, but encourages it because "what's best for your family is best for us!" even though that translates to a loss in tuition for the school. I have never once thought of Montessori Academy of West Omaha as a school that only sees my kids as a tuition bill, which I cannot say the same for the other school we attended. This school truly embodies the Montessori philosophy of "follow the child." Our daughter looks forward to school, her friends, and being challenged where she is at individually. The small class sizes at Montessori Academy of West Omaha allow for my daughter to receive direct, specialized instruction. We all know kids are not the same, not all kids are interested in the same things, this school has proven they can nurture each child in growing academically, socially, and emotionally. With my experience in Montessori for the past 10 years, trust me when I say, you will NOT be disappointed in sending your child(ren) to this one-of-a-kind preschool.

This place is extremely hit-and-miss, with many locations and classrooms MiNO (Montessori in Name…read moreOnly). We had our daughter here for over a year, and in the end I really regret it. We were on the fence, because once we started having misgivings, we worried that she'd made friends she'd miss. Even after knowing two families who pulled their children and told us how glad they did, we left her in. I think it was a mistake. We started at one location, where my normally very outgoing daughter cried every time we dropped her off. We switched to another location, where I was told that the first location was just acquired, so they'd revamped the classroom with Montessori materials, but none of the teachers were trained. While the second location was better, I noticed that many very normal Montessori conventions weren't followed. (I have two older kids who were in several Montessori schools for 10+ years, so I know the drill.) Teachers don't shake hands with kids when they arrive. No parts of the plant, no living/non-living signs, no land and water forms, no Montessori birthday celebration(!). At four years old, my daughter said she and several other kids had completed works that kids normally can't do until late in kindergarten, which leads me to believe that the work wasn't being done properly. Assistant teachers rotate regularly, and I never heard of a single one that was Montessori certified. In the end, the teacher we'd been with for over a year was fired without notice. Either she's way less dependable than I thought she was, or they didn't manage something well. After calling and demanding more information, they admitted that neither teacher in the classroom was Montessori certified _or even had any training_. This is a big company. They are good at (and focused on) making money, but they are not providing Montessori education except in hit-or-miss ways. In the end, we went to another community-based Montessori school with certified teachers that was actually cheaper. It's under new management now, but there are a lot of locations and classrooms and teachers that need addressed. I'm sure some people have good experiences here, but we most certainly did not. I hope others make sure they know what their teachers training and background is before sending their kids here.

I'm recommending the Millard KinderCare and my child that will be attending isn't even born yet…read more You might be asking yourself why I hold an establishment in such high regard when I am not yet a paying client? Because they care, that's why. The Millard KinderCare is a childcare provider that is tucked WAAAY back on an abandoned side street behind an old, dead K-Mart. Why is this important to you? Well, do you want your kid at a location that has 10,000 cars drive by a day or somewhere quiet and tucked away where they can play without much disturbance? Let me tell you about my experience with my daycare hunt thus far. So far I've toured an establishment where the director seemed more interested in making sure her snapchat was up to date then retaining me as a client and a center where I was told they don't do wait lists but "keep calling and the squeaky wheel usually gets the spot." The wife and I were at wits end as to what to do with daycare. Our options so far had looked dim. Then I decided to give Millard KinderCare a call. During the phone call to set up the appointment, their director Kathleen asked for my name, my wife's name, and our 4 yr old child's name. When we arrived for our tour Kathleen greeted all of us by name and gave us a grand tour. This tour lasted close to 45 minutes for a center you can see wall to wall. Kathleen took great care to explain all their processes and procedures for the center in regards to the infant room as well as the preschool room. I was delighted to hear all the rules regulations they follow in order to ensure our child will remain safe while receiving the best care possible; right down to making sure we removed our shoes before entering the infant room. After our 5pm on a Friday tour, Kathleen sent out a detailed and personal follow-up email. This again was a rarity in all the other centers we toured. In an email correspondence with KinderCare, I laid out some challenges I had with choosing them specifically as my childcare provider. Kathleen and her boss convened bright and early Monday to address each and every one of my concerns so we could all come to an agreement and I had a phone call by noon. The lengths KinderCare have gone through just to earn me as a client is nearly extinct in the affordable cost daycare scene. One of the tipping points that makes me so excited for the center is their staff. Again, I have not written one week of tuition payment yet all the staff I've interacted with has treated me like family. I've stepped foot on property twice but I've received smiles and caring acknowledgements from anyone and everyone I've interacted with so far. If you look on the KinderCare website, you'll see just how long the staff has stuck in a location. I can tell the staff have an overall good morale working at this center and this infectious happiness will surly translate into a comfortable time for my child. During our tour, I had the pleasure of observing the staff handle a child who's listening ears were turned down for the afternoon. While the child was performing potentially unsafe actions the staff tirelessly redirected the child to more constructive activities while never showing anger or frustration. It is possible they were acting this way specifically for the special visitor (me) in their area but I sensed no hesitation or uncertainty in the staffs' actions. This gave me a strong impression of redirecting and praising was second nature. If you're in need of child care, I implore you to at least give the Millard KinderCare a strong consideration. Even though I am not yet a paying customer I fully trust they will do the right thing when it comes time to watch my youngest. Sure, their location is a bit out of the way and their parking lot is challenging to navigate a full sized pick-up through but these should be seen as strengths instead of turn-offs. I couldn't be happier and can now sleep better knowing my child will be in great hands once he arrives.

I completely disagree with the previous comment indicating that Garden Patch CLC is a bad place to…read moretake your kids. I find it is quite the opposite. Garden Patch offers a very friendly, caring, supervised, structured environment. It is an equal mix between professional and educational that I am proud to have my daughter be a part of. The previous reviewers mention of illness always being present - are you kidding, this is in ANY daycare facility! Garden Patch does just what they should do - they provide a very detailed handbook which outlines their sickness policy (among many other things) and they inform parents right away when an illness breaks out. Any doctor/nurse will tell you that by the time a child is notably sick, they have most likely been sick for at least a few days and being around other kids daily, you can't prevent everything. KIDS GET SICK! Also, I find the facility to be very clean. In fact, the adjoining bathrooms between classrooms have cleaning schedules and staff sign up/are assigned daily cleaning chores. The rooms are always picked up for the next day; the floors constantly get vacuumed and mopped (I have seen them doing it several times, first hand). As for boo-boos, again, KIDS GET BOO-BOOS! Garden Patch is very good about providing incident reports when a child gets hurt, even if it is minor. Parents are required to sign off on them which shows that they are always kept in the loop. They have playgrounds that are safe and completely fenced in with privacy fences. From what I have seen firsthand, they have staff that constantly monitors the children in their rooms and ensure the children are kept in order. My daughter has learned so much since being with Garden Patch. Staring in the 2's class, she learned and was able to count to 10 in Spanish (and even say a few words). They integrate education with art and play, which is extremely important for child development. I have an entire tote full to the brim with worksheets, art, and other things that my daughter has learned on a daily basis. So I am not sure why the previous commenter indicated there is no structure...it is very structured and activities are age-appropriate yet challenging. The owner of Garden Patch takes extreme pride in what she is able to provide to her families and their children. She even emails everyone to let them know when she is going to be out of town or out of the office (for training and such) for period of time - no other daycare director I have ever come across does this. In fact, you hardly ever SEE directors at other facilities - but the director at Garden Patch is very hands on and is on-site constantly. I never hesitate to recommend Garden Patch to anyone who asks or is looking for childcare, because this facility is not just merely "daycare," it provides infant/childcare, preschool, pre-k all wrapped into one. I am proud to take my daughter here and can't imagine her learning anywhere else.

The door must be locked from the outside only with a key - which means someone must then walk around to the front to enter the daycare. When I pointed out that was unsafe, she told me that "nothing bad has happened yet." Good grief. Also the facility needs to install a privacy fence with a locking gate so that the children cannot be seen from 50th Street or escape from the yard. Every neighborhood harbors sex offenders, right? We haven't attended for several years so maybe things have changed, but for a place that is…read moresupposedly Montessori and has Montessori-certified teachers, they were pretty bad at the philosophy. We kept our kid there cause I felt like it was a safe place and I don't think they were mean or anything. But the entire philosophy is "Follow the child." That doesn't mean let them do whatever they want, but it does mean encourage and follow their interests and their level of development. These people were constantly focused on what level our kid was "supposed" to be at and acted concerned about her development, saying she was acting too young for her age, but then when we were concerned about needing medical examination or intervention they never responded. I'm not expecting them to diagnose my kid, but if you truly think there is a concern, then recommend a check-up or something. (Spoiler alert, it's been 2 years since then and she's just fine). And instead of encouraging whatever her interests were or letting her start slow, they would try to rush her into things and then get upset when she didn't show interest, like she was the problem for "refusing" to perform. (That's the term they used! For a BABY!) Anyway, I felt like they were nice to the kids despite all that, and they had nice activities, and since they were sticklers for rule following I felt like it was a safe place. Which is why they get 3 stars. But since then our kids have been attending another Montessori school that is much more attuned to the children's interests and tries to work on their level of development rather than pushing to work on whatever the teacher wants. Just pointing that out so that you don't think that our experience here is what regular Montessori is all about. It's actually the exact opposite.
