As if that wasn't inconsiderate enough once inside, the front desk member was incredibly rude, dismissive, impatient and seemed to not want to assist myself and my family because of our skin color. He continuously asked questions that made me uncomfortable. I hate to think that racism still remains at the forefront of any business in this day and age but it's very apparent that this establishment does not reserve a place for African Americans.

At-Home Tutors is exactly what I was looking for. My daughter, Sinclair's tutoring coach, Miss Alex is an expert in her field and it shows. I wanted a tutor to reinforce my daughter's ISEE comprehension. At-Home Tutoring has been a dream come true! What a fantastic family of compassionate educators this is! I can't say enough amazing accolades about AHT. My daughter is already a straight-A student. We reached out to get some additional grooming for the ISEE test, which would allow her to attend a top-rated boarding school. The first time she took it she scored highly respectable scores and anyone would have been satisfied with her scores -- except for her! I could not have imagined that he could have gotten a 99% after she focused on raising her scores. I loved that Miss Alex was available for scheduled appointments in person, but Sinclair ended up mostly doing her sessions through SKYPE and it was a dream. What my husband and I were most impressed with is Sinclair learned not just how to gain the insight to get to the right answer, but HOW to best take the test. AHT is compassionate and they adhere to what the students need. They make the impact where it counts: the results prove it! THANK YOU AT HOME TUTORS!! This company is FANTASTIC!!!!

My review for Sylvan is mainly negative. I think the big problem is that the lady who sold us on…read morethe program set forth high expectations on their part and kind of set us up for failure. Plus we spent over $3000. Ouch! First off, my daughter only tested having difficulties in reading. She was actually coming in at early first grade in math on their assessment. Tutoring was only recommended for reading because of this. We continued to work on math at home, but when we got her beginning year assessment it says she is significantly behind and failing to meet benchmark expectations. Uh, what's wrong with your assessment? Then for reading, we were guaranteed that she would be reading fluently by the end of the summer; we asked what we should do to assist the process, they said absolutely nothing. We were told that all the work would occur at Sylvan. I asked again because this sounded too good to be true. flash forward to 2 weeks after discontinuing Sylvan after 3 months of tutoring sessions and her progress report in reading from school is hideous, she is not even marked as progressing toward benchmark, but substantially behind. The reason I partially blame them is because if we had also worked with her at home using their strategies, she probably would have progressed further. Also, do not make promises or guarantees you can't keep. She is in our eyes doing better (sounds out phonemes better), hence the 2 versus 1 star, but definitely not what we expected.

They sent home packets of work for "homework" often that would take hours and have my son in tears from boredom. (Because it was the same non sense they had him doing all day while there). His work was perfect, the teachers raved about how tidy his handwriting was and how well he sat and did his work, "especially for a boy". Yet, when he had to use the bathroom one of the teachers acted like he was trying to get away with something and often would not let him go. At the end of the year I picked him up one day to find his shorts were wet and cold. They wouldn't allow him to use the bathroom and he wet himself. He must have sat in it for an hour or more without them noticing.

We were relocating here from Louisiana, Hurricane Rita. The first two years Mrs. Duvall was my oldest two kids (boy & girl) teacher. She was the greatest teacher they ever had. They were academic behind and hated math. Anyone that knows Mrs. Duvall knows she Loves Math, and helps Kids love Math. She has a way of running her Learning Center structured -but exciting and fun. She had a one on one relationship with each student in the school, ......and she was the High School Teacher and the Principal. The 1st year at FCA there was 155 students ! I sat on the Parent Advisory Board 3 of the 6yrs we were there. The first year I was a part of the Parent Advisory Board I learned about the foundation of the FCA Scholarship Fund. This Scholarship Fund was created by a burning passion that every family should have the opportunity to have their student take part in a quality education that teaches Strong Academics with Values and Character. The Scholarship Fund was not made up of corporate donations. Instead, Mrs. Duvall decided to create the fund from within. She took 15-20% (Dollar amount) of the tuition income and allotted that amount to be given back out in the form of scholarship money to parents. Mr. and Mrs. Duvall have a love and dedication to kids from all walks of live. Yes, your right....they have no tolerance for teachers that don't want to teacher, and just draw a check or TEACH a TEST.
