What a great way to spend a Humo Day evening! I have tried Saigon Hustle's OG location before through TooGoodToGo, so I was really excited for this one.
Fortunately we were promptly let in at start time, as waiting outside in the rain wouldn't have been fun! Immediately upon walking in, all of the food was there beautifully waiting for us.
I first tried the banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe) spring roll. This was such a simple idea, yet I had never seen it anywhere else before! Fusing two Vietnamese delicacies: banh xeo + spring rolls together, was truly genius. I'm definitely coming back for these. Next was the salmon spring roll. Another innovative twist - while I am not a huge fan of salmon, I know this will appeal to the salmon lovers.
Upon walking to the buffet, I got a banh mi, salad, egg rolls, and lemongrass chicken. Everything tasted very fresh, the egg rolls and banh mi were very crispy. The lemongrass chicken was really moist and flavorful! I'd totally eat this as a rice dish. My only complaint here was that the pork in the banh mi was a tad salty.
The chicken wings later came out, and these were definitely my favorite. Super crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. I could totally eat these as a full meal. Forget Wing Stop or any other wing chain. These were really some amazing wings.
Lastly for dessert was the che Thai (fruit cocktail). My mom makes this regularly and is one of my favorite desserts, so I was excited to see this offered here. All the jellies taste as good as I remember them, but the milk was a little too sweet for my liking. Perhaps there was too much condensed milk, as the color of the milk looked lighter than the jade green color this normally looks.
Saigon Hustle's concept is a fast-casual eatery, with a drive-thru option available. Super convenient if you're like me and don't want to get out of the car while in a rush! The owners mentioned having all orders out within 5-7 minutes max. While the flavors aren't exactly authentic Vietnamese, I can tell they are catering to a wider palate spectrum, which I can respect.
I'll definitely be back here if I'm out in Spring Branch or their other location in Garden Oaks. Thanks to Jando, Saigon Hustle, and the Yelp Houston team for making this a great one! read more
