He was flexible with scheduling our half day excursion and checked in the day before to confirm our time. He even suggested that we go out early to avoid a potential thunderstorm to try and ensure we got our full 5 hours. On the boat, he and his first mate were informative, and we rode about an hour into the bay to the fishing area. Once we arrived, they quickly got all of the gear out and explained the process. Then the fish started coming! After 3 hours, we had caught our allocation, and made the trip back to the dock. At the dock we took pictures and Captain Steve cleaned and filleted our fish. The Captain and one crew member were really excellent. They made sure to cover critical aspects of the boat and abide by all the safety precautions. I actually timed the charter and we were on the water under sail for almost exactly 3 hours. We got there a little early, and the process of familiarizing us with the boat took a few minutes, so the entire process was probably closer to four hours. The boat was clean and in great shape. Some of the electronics we're not working but that was not an issue for our charter. We were provided with basic cold drinks and bagged treats as well as a bottle of wine. We own a Catalina 22 sailboat so we were familiar with sailing, but sailing a Catalina 42 Mark II was a lot different. I was thrilled that the captain offered me the opportunity to sail and tack the boat for an extended period, of course under his watchful eye and guidance. In short it was a very memorable experience and we had a blast! The wind and weather were perfect.

Chartered a catamaran for a week in Nov 2024 from Sailaway Key West. Booked in March…read more Unprofessional outfit: boat we chartered was not available, but an on paper good alternative was offered. Then the price of the crew was increased. Excuse was that the person who we booked with in March was no longer with the company. Lot of work to redo all the work we had done in March to find the charter we wanted - anyone who has tried to book one knows it's much smoke and mirrors, the same boats are rented out by different outfitters, everything is a little different between each and it's hard to get a full picture of total cost, and to compare apples to apples and not something else. Document every conversation and detail of what you agreed upon with Sailaway (or any other company) or they'll change the game. Arrived in Key was as agreed upon. Boat reeked of sewage. Captain had been on the boat for ten minutes several days before our charter, that's it. Said it reeked then too, but didn't do anything about it. Captain had almost no contact with Sailaway, it was the first time they worked with them. Captain ended up calling marina engineer and it turned out that half of the boat had not been pumped out. Additionally, the captain's cabin bathroom was broken, and the toilet didn't flush. You can imagine. It all got fixed but it was a stinky hassle and we started our charter several hours late. Sailaway overcharged us in their electronic system and ghosted us upon repeated request to resolve. Jennifer, owner of the company, acted unprofessionally and winged it to provide a charter boat and an ok but inexperienced crew she had never met, nor taken the time to get to know. It came out all right by helping out on the fly, but Sailaway was disappointing and there was no communication with, nor support for the crew from them either. The situation would have been salvageable if Jennifer had responded to our emails and calls to resolve the issue and accept feedback as we asked her to do. But she didn't, which leaves us with a bad feeling about her and her company.

The entire 22 man crew had amazing experiences with Capt Drew and his incredible mate Andrew. The good lord blessed us with a picture perfect day, calm winds, blue sky's, and due to the skills on the boat a full cooler. The boat is BIG, hence "THE BIG WORM" lol. Spacious cabin, comfortable seating inside and out. If your fishing with a small or very large party, Drew will accommodate. Unfortunately we did not take advantage of the lunch (bbq) that is available as an up charge for the party. Make sure you inquire about food options!!!! In short, Captain Drew was disorganized, lacked communication skills and was very rude. We booked this trip a year in advance and was quoted a price of $1200 for 6 people, and $200 any additional persons. Prior to the fishing trip, I texted the captain several questions to prepare for this trip, he either failed to respond or his response was delayed and lacked clarity. The lack of communication continued before and during the fishing trip. The captain texted me the day before the fishing trip at approximately 7:30 am and told us not to come down to Virginia Beach until we received confirmation from him that evening to ensure the weather was suitable for fishing. I had been checking the weather forecast for several days and it was supposed to be in the 70s, sunny and moderate winds and I conveyed that via text to the captain. What he attempted to do, but failed, is tried to get rid of our group so that he could make more money with another group of 16 versus 7 because the weather the next day was forecasted to be very windy. And the group of 16 was booked to go the day after our trip. When he realized we would not wait until we received confirmation since we were already in route, the captain raised the price to $1800 when he had already quoted us $1200 for the first 6 and $200 for any additional. I'm sure he raised the price to get us to cancel, which we did not do--sorry Captain More importantly, because he had to cancel a bigger group and stick with us, he failed to give us a safety briefing before departure. An epic fail as a Captain. At this point, he could care less about our safety. Money was priority for him. When we returned from the fishing trip, he continued to request more money, only this time, it was for two mates. Everything should have been all worked out before we ever pulled off of the dock. Bottom line, this man lacks integrity, he was rude, and was a male chauvinist. I would not recommend this company for a fishing trip.
