A 3 hour tour was just right. Our son was excited to learn some sailing. The rest of us just relaxed to the sound of the wind and waves! To add to the great day, the sail starts and ends at the Deep Creek Restaurant on the Magothy River. To judge by the crowd, their Sunday Brunch is popular. We opted to take snacks on the sail and eat afterward on the patio. Everything was very good! Calamari was especially good. If you travel to Annapolis from west of DC through town, you will be happy to know the route is now fixed! The southwest freeway to 695 then to 295 north is open and marked! This is a really big deal! I'm a native, and this route has been broken all my life. In summary, a great day on the water! And an adventure to remember with cool pictures, no bruises, and good food!

We…read morehave done the other sailing cruise from Annapolis several times, but this was so much more enjoyable. The boat is a historic vessel, the crew is knowledgeable and friendly, and they really put in a lot of effort to make it an amazing experience. We boarded at 7:15 pm, received the safety briefing from the captain, and learned the history about skipjacks oystering on the Bay. The ticket price included drinks (a nice selection of beers, wines, soda, and hard seltzer). Music (oldies favorites) was playing. They had prepared little goodie bags that included swag like little pinwheels and glowsticks and a bagged snack. They also passed out individual small charcuterie boxes with skewers of meat, cheese, and olives, plus a separate container of tiny crackers. The captain let people help the crew unfurl the sail, and he took us way out to see a visiting frigate. There were views of the Bay Bridge and lots of other sights. Around 9 pm, the boat was back in position for a great view of the fireworks. There is nothing like seeing the fireworks from the water. And the ticket cost goes to a good cause--maritime education and preserving this unique vessel.

In my research, it's hard to find a boat that is NOT a fishing boat in the area. (Fishing boats are great, but are usually not for lounging and not that pretty.) The entire 22 man crew had amazing experiences with Capt Drew and his incredible mate Andrew. The good lord blessed us with a picture perfect day, calm winds, blue sky's, and due to the skills on the boat a full cooler. The boat is BIG, hence "THE BIG WORM" lol. Spacious cabin, comfortable seating inside and out. If your fishing with a small or very large party, Drew will accommodate. Unfortunately we did not take advantage of the lunch (bbq) that is available as an up charge for the party. Make sure you inquire about food options!!!! In short, Captain Drew was disorganized, lacked communication skills and was very rude. We booked this trip a year in advance and was quoted a price of $1200 for 6 people, and $200 any additional persons. Prior to the fishing trip, I texted the captain several questions to prepare for this trip, he either failed to respond or his response was delayed and lacked clarity. The lack of communication continued before and during the fishing trip. The captain texted me the day before the fishing trip at approximately 7:30 am and told us not to come down to Virginia Beach until we received confirmation from him that evening to ensure the weather was suitable for fishing. I had been checking the weather forecast for several days and it was supposed to be in the 70s, sunny and moderate winds and I conveyed that via text to the captain. What he attempted to do, but failed, is tried to get rid of our group so that he could make more money with another group of 16 versus 7 because the weather the next day was forecasted to be very windy. And the group of 16 was booked to go the day after our trip. When he realized we would not wait until we received confirmation since we were already in route, the captain raised the price to $1800 when he had already quoted us $1200 for the first 6 and $200 for any additional. I'm sure he raised the price to get us to cancel, which we did not do--sorry Captain More importantly, because he had to cancel a bigger group and stick with us, he failed to give us a safety briefing before departure. An epic fail as a Captain. At this point, he could care less about our safety. Money was priority for him. When we returned from the fishing trip, he continued to request more money, only this time, it was for two mates. Everything should have been all worked out before we ever pulled off of the dock. Bottom line, this man lacks integrity, he was rude, and was a male chauvinist. I would not recommend this company for a fishing trip.

The 101 course is great for newbies; the instructors are all highly experienced yet very patient with beginners, you'll have a great time for sure! Since I love cooking, I'm going to use the Scoville scale to compare 101 and 103. If 101 is just a mild bell pepper, then 103 is a jalapeño. Don't take it unless you're ready for a true sailing boot camp! It will kick your ass, especially if you've just come from 101, but you're going to learn A LOT that you can then take with you to digest and practice. You're going to be overloaded with a LOT of information, but just take some time at the end of each day to decompress and process what you've learned and you'll do fine. They are all very passionate about the art of sailing and push you hard to be the best sailor you can be. Def a great experience!!!

Carrie and Steve were welcoming, knowledgeable, patient, and courteous with all the students. If my experience at the school had ended with them this would be a five star review. Regrettably it was not.The the class I attended fell on three windless days, which meant the sailing portion had to be deferred to a makeup class a month later. Now this is where my story takes an unfortunate turn. The day of the make up class I arrived at the school exhausted and lost in a mental fog do to a medical condition I do not feel like discussing here. I am a veteran with a 100% disability rating, I am sure you can figure out what my problem may have been. I promptly informed the instructors that I was having serious health issues at the time and they agreed I should sit out the class and suggested I return the next day if I happened to feel better. I left believing the school would work with me, since I had prepaid for two classes (ASA 101 and ASA 103). Unfortunately, the scheduling staff did not share the same views or concerns as the instructors when I called the next business day. When they finally agreed to place me in another ASA 101 class (so they wouldn't have to adjust the ASA 103 course I had already paid for), I was told during that final phone call: "There is a caveat -- you feeling sick or not well is not an excuse for missing a class." Let that sink in: "feeling sick or not well is not an excuse for missing a class." I don't think a more tone deaf statement could be said to someone living with a permanent disability. Now, I may have overreacted -- I admit I had gone four full days without sleeping. But even in my altered state, I knew that my health and safety, as well as that of every student, should be the school's top priority. Their response made me feel like nothing more than an inconvenience -- a monetary transaction that had gone wrong. Living with a disability is not a choice, and it is not something I can control. Disgusted by their attitude, I rejected the offer for yet another makeup class. For my troubles I received a partial refund on ASA 103, I kept the course book and plan to teach myself. The money I had intended to spend on additional courses will now go towards a down payment on a boat that I will be able enjoy at my own pace. This was my experience with the Annapolis Sailing School. If you have any health issues or happen to be permanently disabled, as I am, I would strongly suggest looking at other schools in the area. It's your choice -- I have made mine.
