My first interactions with this shop (through a man named Mark, who I believe is the owner) were extremely pleasant, informative, and auspicious. This too was more than a month ahead of the rental. Mark promised to send a confirmation the next day, but it never came. When I called to follow up a week or two later, Mark said he typically doesn't send confirmations until a couple of weeks before the rental. (To be fair, he never asked for payment, so at least I wasn't getting scammed.) But still, this was a strange and highly unusual policy, which made me uncomfortable the more I thought about it. So a few days later I reached out, politely insisting on getting sent a written confirmation. No one answered. Over the course of a week, I left several messages, both by text and phone, to both Mark's office number and his cell phone. Never heard a word. I'm guessing Mark rented the vehicle to someone else, who perhaps wanted a longer-term rental, offered more money, who knows. In any case, I did not want to risk showing up to find no car available, so I rented somewhere else. Too bad. This shop's prices are good, and their jeeps are probably in good condition. Like the previous reviewer, I hope they fix their customer service.

There's something romantic about traveling by train-perhaps because most of us Americans only…read moreexperience that when we travel internationally or when we watch a movie. It's been on my bucket list to ride the Amtrak train and I recently had the opportunity to do so. The station in Glenwood Springs is just what you'd hope to see-wooden benches, overhead fans, musty air inside. This one even has some old-timey decorations that take you back in time. When your train arrives, the conductor will come inside and invite you to board. It's a fairly casual process-nothing as stressful as commercial flying. Some things to note about Amtrak in general: * The trains are often late-download the app to monitor it's status-that is usually pretty accurate * The roomettes are tiny, but private. If you want to sleep in peace without anyone around you, it's a worthy expense. * While they say that ID is required, I was never asked to show any. * There is no wifi on the train. Spotty cell service, depending on where you travel. Bring a book. All aboard!

This is my 2nd trip on Amtrak going from Glenwood Springs to Denver. The train arrived on time. The…read moreGlenwood Springs station is still the original building from June 1904. Beautiful wood accents with old style wooden bench seats in the waiting area. The station is handicap accessible with a elevator. But I did not see handicap or wheelchair passengers. I had no issues when the conductor scanned my QR code from the Amtrak app. The conductor gave me a seat tag in coach. I entered car 610, found my seat and waited. The train left on time. One of the advantages of coach is you do not have stay in your designated seat. You can walk around visiting the observation car, the Cafe on the lower level of the same car or when the dining car is open for breakfast or lunch you can show up to be seated. Dinner is more likely to be a private table and requires reservations. They accept cash, card or tap-to-pay in both the Cafe and the dining car. Passengers who book roomettes or private bedrooms get all meals included in the dining car. The Cafe is open more often with snacks, light meals, soft drinks and alcohol. Because they are going thru the mountains with tight curves and at least 38 tunnels speed is reduced. There was a straight section between Kremmling and Granby when the train was probably going 60mph. The trip had 2 stops before Denver. Granby for ticketed passengers only and Fraser-Winter Park where anyone can get off the train for fresh air or a smoke break. Winter Park resort offers a shuttle bus to the ski area.

The gentleman working behind the counter offhandedly told me some spots where people were getting in and out and then commence to tell me that we should not be fishing it as it's too hot to only fish it in the morning. As I was only stopping to find out where they're putting in and taking out, I did not need an education on when to fishing and how hot the water is as I practice safe practices when I'm Fishing anyways I would have purchased some flies and was actually looking at a new net. I do try and spend money at local businesses, but I will be spending my money elsewhere moving forward. Do not stop at this fly shop.

Ami's Acres - Glamping-adjacent with good vibes and surprise mirrors…read more This spot has everything you need to camp comfortably--and maybe a few things you don't expect, like giant bathroom mirrors big enough to check your aura. (Which is hilarious, because I left my makeup and vanity at home with my dignity. Just here to wash my face and vibe with the trees, thanks.) Ladies' bathroom: surprisingly solid. Two toilets, two shower stalls with hooks galore (finally, somewhere to hang the 57 things I bring into a shower). A bench for your stuff = chef's kiss. Double sink setup outside the stalls is a bonus. I didn't expect to have better lighting here than in my actual house. Campsite: long, shaded, and solar panel-friendly. No picnic table, which I did pout about for 30 seconds until I realized I never sit at them anyway. Full hook-ups for those of us who like our nature with a side of electricity. ‍ Staff was great--we got a friendly check-in call around 10am and were offered a personal site tour near Tractor Supply (iconic). Husband backed us in like a pro, no stress. Gold star to him. No individual fire pits at RV sites, which we get--it's dry enough to ignite a marshmallow by looking at it wrong. Communal pits by the office if you're feeling social or want to channel your inner cowboy. There are some long-term residents, which wasn't an issue, but might be nice to have visitors grouped separately--just for the ambiance. Birds and nature sounds = A+. Trains and road noise = present, but meh. By the time we hit the sack, we're toast anyway. Camping sleep hits different.

As good as it gets!…read more Pro tip 1: Come here in the morning to get the best parking and if you are taking the lesson you would have the half of the day to practice on your own. Pro tip 2: Come here with your own ski boots (even as a beginner, hopefully committed to become a pro). That would make the whole world of a difference. Promise. Pro tip 3: Get the lesson if you are a beginner. Really worth it and the price (at the moment of writing) is reasonable. Pro tip 4: Get your own skis if you can. Not nearly as important as getting your own ski boots but I figured my skis were not locking in place as effortlessly as I would have wanted them to. Pro tip 5: Bring your gear: ski pants, waterproof winter gloves, winter jacket (layer down depending on the weather and you), goggles and a winter face mask. Pro tip 6: Bring your own hot beverage of choice in a thermos. Or water. And fruits and snacks for some quick calories because the cafe gets REALLY crowded and they actually ran out of the food today before 3 because of the snow storm. You can store it in a locker. I was new to mountain skiing but did some cross country skiing waaaay back, can't say I had good memories or much success. So I came here to learn how to mountain ski and rewrite my negative childhood experiences and it did it! First of all, the $145 price (Dec 2021) that included the rental skis/snowboard, the 2hr group lesson and all day lift ticket (9am to 4pm) was more than reasonable. If you did the all day lift ticket and the rentals you would end up paying $115 ($75 lift + $40 rentals). And the lesson alone would have cost you $90. So it was a PRETTY sweet deal! The instructors were very helpful. They walked us through the basic elements like putting the skis on at the slope, walking up the slope, breaking and turning and they spoke loud and were very articulate. They were very strict and told people to pay attention and not play with the skis and do anything they were not instructed to do. At first I thought it was too much but then I realized they did everything to make sure the new students don't crash into other people when they were on the slope. My friend was new to snowboarding, he took the class too and was very happy as well. Now the lift closes at 4 so we had half of the day to practice on our own. After that we hung out at the bar which closes at 6 and it was nice to have a place to relax in the conventional way after the day of skiing. The negatives.. yes there were a couple. The rental shop at 9 was a freaking chaos. Again.. come early. The instructors didn't teach us the best way to recover from the falling down and it is a big one because in my experience recovery takes up a lot of time/energy. I will be back here soon with all the lessons learned.

We got the Monarch pass this year, which allows us three days at Sunlight. The mountain is pretty small, only 3 lifts I think, but it's a nice small-town family vibe. The prices are great too - $99 for weekend lift pass and something like $49 for weekday? Some of the runs were very skied out though and we had to be cautious of rocks/trees popping out - they did a good job with caution signs to alert for obstacles on the trails. There was a small lodge at the base with food and drinks which was very affordable as ski resorts go - $5 fry basket and $8 beers on draft! Would do another weekend here.
