But it was worth it. Very much worth it. We both ordered the Schnitzel - since we did not want to share. Their wine selection is small but very good as well. I tried a few of their whites by the glass. Portions were perfect and the room was cheery and warm. Next time I will save room for dessert.

The food was about 2 *'s and it's definitely a case of quality over quantity. I got currywurst - the curry sauce tasted bottled, and the sausage wasn't well cooked. My kids got schnitzel and they said it was "mid". Honestly I think German food kind of caps out at 4 *'s - there's only so much you can do with boiled potatoes and kraut and sausages.

When I asked what's going on he told me it's the cooks fault, he's on the phone chatting with his friends and no following orders. Also, there are many other orders ahead of us. Very unprofessional behavior and inconsistent with what he told me earlier... Anyhow the food was not great. As an Austrian I know how to make a Schnitzel. It was way too thick and funnily it was very dry (we live across the street so it was out of the container within minutes). Either the oil was too cold or it wasn't swiveled enough - it did not blow up (soufflieren) The Kartoffelsalat was not authentic, maybe a German interpretation or perhaps from the store. Also, who serves a Schnitzel whitout lemon? The gulasch was not quite what I expected - it was not terrible, it was just not the Wiener Saftgulasch I would usually get. There was a very noticeable layer of fat floating in the top. The consistency was quite Gooey - must have been from the cheese in the Knödel. Its more like a stroganoff with old beef bits. Knödel we're okay. A bit heavy on the cheese - pretty much only cheese flavor.

But it's a nice enough street to enjoy the view, bonus that it's a mere block from the UBahn. They have a nice selection of drinks, including non-alcholic, and I got a spritzer which was lovely. I ordered the schnitzel and it absolutely knocked my socks off. It was SO good. It came with roasted potatoes, which were perfectly roasted, and a nice refreshing salad. It was one the best things I ate on my vacation in Hamburg. I ended the meal with flourless chocolate cake which was also delicious. My waiter was also wonderful. He was incredibly kind, including when I broke a glass!

We were lucky enough to snag a table this evening, considering that every time we passed by they were fully booked. It is a very nice "business casual" restaurant. If you want a good deal it is 39eur on Monday nights for a 3 course meal. The food was amazing! I ordered the oxtail tartare expecting it to be gamey, but it wasn't at all. The duck portion of my main me was small, but as I came to the end of my meal, I realized it was enough. If you are looking for a nice night out, I'd definitely recommend coming here.
