It turns out that this is definitely one of those pubs. Okay, it did close a little early, but that was probably because there was a public holiday the next day. However, as a place to grab a beer while walking from the station, I have to admit that it really isn't that bad. Also just letting everyone know sauce is not included in your meal here, told by bar staff it is $3 extra... so have fun trying to buy meals for everyone plus the kids when they are trying to charge $18 for some sauce. Menu clearly states plain gravy and sauce $1 extra - ask any questions and expect a mouthful of abuse from Chris the bar lady and told to leave the venue.

Drinks are especially expensive, with bottled premix spirits (Such as Jack Daniels) being $13AUD, but the food is well priced and the specials are excellent value. There are nibbles served during 5-7pm on a Friday to accompany your drinks which is a nice touch. There is a members club card available which gets you a dollar off each of the specials and other deals but not much value to be gained there, and despite stating "All drinks" the specials do not apply to bottle premix drinks. Service is a mixed bag with waiters very good, attentive and efficient but some individual bar staff can be downright rude. Cocktails are excellent and about the right price for what you receive and a good selection is on offer. Lunches are good value and are usually very well made, the food cannot be falted. Good for catching up on Friday nights and for lunches and dinners. After around 10pm the entire venue changes its tune to become a nightclub.

And the setting is cosy and welcoming. What more could you want? We came with our puppy on a sunny September afternoon so sat outside, which was easily accommodated by the waiter. I had the steak, mushroom and red wine pot pie with buttered vegetables and rustic mash. Whilst the husband had the local Bridge Road brewery's beer battered fish and chips and salad. So yummy! We then shared a locally grown apple & berry crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was divine!! Our waiter was so friendly and after chatting about our little furry friend a couple of times, came back bearing a doggy biscuit treat for the spoilt munchkin. How lovely. We will definitely be back!
