The park advertises it self as a greenbelt, but there are no trails at this location. There are no permanent bathroom facilities here, just Porta-potty's. There is plenty of parking, bathrooms, picnic seating under a pavilion, a basketball court, a water fountain, spots for fishing, and it sits inside a nice neighborhood. I enjoy coming here for simple runs both in the morning and afternoons. There's not lighting to make it worthwhile to visit at night.. Sometimes people will bring their dogs off leash and let them roam around, so be careful of that, but for the most part people are very respectful and courteous of each other on the loop. This is a local park in Elgin that is tucked behind a residential area and boasts of many…read moreamenities. Let me list them off for you. There is a large fenced in baseball field, fenced in basketball court, two soccer fields, a children's playscape, and two covered areas with picnic tables and grills. Both the soccer and baseball field have limited nighttime lighting. There are a few other picnic tables with grills scattered about the green space and there is a gravel path all around the park. They do have public bathrooms here, although they are not the cleanest. There is a great deal of green space around the park, which also encompasses a frisbee golf course. There is a parking lot accessible on Madison Street and a separate entrance on Alamo Street (no parking lot there). This park is definitely an asset to the community it serves. The only thing that's missing is a swimming pool. The photographs in the review spell out the rest.

It's never super crowded, sometimes you may run into for horses if you're on horse-friendly trails and you can hike down to the Colorado River as well. The trails are pretty well maintained and marked. Summer camps: my son (7) has been attending their day summer camps for three years now and absolutely loves them! They are from 9-4 so very friendly for those parents working. There is also a bus that brings kids in from Austin as well. The price can't be beat as well. Each day he comes home telling me about what he learned and got to experience (most times I am jealous- like you got to go kayaking? Make and drink yaupon tea? What- how cool!) The camp counselors are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and treat the kids with kindness and respect. They also have a beautiful facility, overall. The grounds are clean and well-kept. McKinney Roughs is simply the best!

I love the pine trees and views from some of the trails. The campground is lovely as well. Very clean. Spaces are large. People are respectful. But... A big con is the traffic noise at night! We stayed in the Copperas Creek Camping Area, which is quite close to the road, so we expected some noise. But it was intense both noise. A loud, long crash woke me up in the middle of the night, with a second crash crashing into the debris from the first one. That whole incident kept me up for 2 hours. I don't know if the other campgrounds in the park are any better. The park is nestled in a populated area so I doubt it. But the trails and area are beautiful!! So I would definitely recommend for hiking!! Not so much tent camping... (maybe it's better in an RV?).

I came out here with a group- most of ours first time. We enjoyed the smell of the tall pines, some bridges and steps and switchbacks. The overviews left some to be desired as they overlooked the highway. Overall the park is clean and beautiful and we didn't see many people which made it better! I can't wait to go back and tackle the 8mi trail!

There are pavilions available and plenty of areas to sit down. The parking are was really good. There are several jungle gyms for the kiddos. The walking trail is well kept and free or holes or anything that will cause you to fall. I saw wildlife along the way. People were fishing, eating, walking, playing games, and just enjoying life. I loved my visit here.

It's closest neighbors are a funeral home next-door, and the Elgin cemetery directly behind it. There are uncovered benches and picnic tables throughout the park, but no grills. This park, if you're not from here, can be a little challenging to find, since there is only a narrow way in and out from behind the community center. The park is nicely taken care of and manicured, but there are numerous large ant mounds everywhere and ducks that expect to be fed. There are public bathrooms on the property with stainless receptacles and they are relatively clean. Definitely a nice local park for the Elgin residents to enjoy. The photos tell the rest.
