If you live in a Cal D Sac, the island is all weeds (they never seed) and broken branches. They bring around the street sweeper before the leaves fall. Prestwick Place condos on Palatine own the pond behind them, never take care of it, never cut the grass or clean out the garbage in the water. This bag of garbage has been there for five days. Trees need trimming and cleanup around their pond. In the summer the pond is always covered in weeds because they don't treat the water.

Within a radius of 15min there are multiples of basically every type of grocery, pet, retail, home improvement and service store you could ever need. Post office, police station, town hall, golf course, a hospital, beautiful modern event center, 3 gorgeous forest preserves, the famous Willow Creek church, LifeTime Fitness, Woodfield, IKEA, and all the other great stores in the area. With all the commercial income, like auto dealers and stores, record low property taxes, wide, well-maintained streets, new shopping centers opening up, with ample parking. I really feel this place is basically the closest to having all the benefits of living in the City without the problems of congestion, crime, and lack of parking.

Totally had a rockin time last night (6-10-11)! Enjoyed the amazing guitar work of homewreckers…read morejamming down to Prince and Jimmi Hendrix. That was followed by some of the most amazing rockin" blues by Howard and the White Boys! Wow! These guys rock! The stage was located right next to Chord on Blues which we are looking forward to stopping by sometime soon to hear what they offer. Great town with a huge array of bars and dining. something for everyone. We'll be going back today for 7th Heaven and to hopefully check out the rest of the fest. Be warned - the beer available at the fest is aweful - miller or miller lite :( But you can stop into any of the bars for some good brew.

Cover bands of 80's Mullet Rock was not his idea of a good time. I personally didn't mind. I grew up with older brothers, so a little Bon Jovi didn't faze me. The thing I like about St. Charles is all the little outdoor festivals and parades that they seem to have all the time and they're fun to go to. They seem to have a parade for every occasion down Main Street. Food smells wafting through the air with vendors selling some good looking food and some good looking food that's native to the Chicago land area, stuff that pales in comparison (sometimes) when I find it in MN. The area is quaint around the local bars and we didn't have to pay for parking. There isn't a damn meter on every block, in fact I don't recall seeing any meters period. It's like one big outdoor block party with food, music and lots of people. Fun event in June right along the river.I wish I lived closer.

The population in this Midwest town has grown since its inception, when some builder by the name of…read more"Hoffman" decided to build a bunch of "suburban" homes. The place built out, sprawling out to nearby Schaumburg, where similar homes also were being built. Parts of Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates comingled. Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates became allies. The "largest shopping center in the country", WOODFIELD MALL, was built to accommodate all these sudden new residents. It also brought Sears Roebuck from the City of Chicago into the village, where they built a headquarters in the middle of the cornfields. Now there are even more large companies that make Hoffman Estates their home, such as AT&T. WFM was constructed in the 70's. I learned to drive stick shift in a corvette in the parking lot of Woodfield while it was being built. The parking lot was huge because the pylons and lights had not yet been installed. Fun times ..:) The entire infrastructure had to be rebuilt, and this entailed going from Highway 53 being a one-lane bridge, where, on the Winter ice, you had to stop your car to let an oncoming car pass, to a now-humongous 8-lane Route 53 (officially known as Interstate 290). It's beautiful! The area has a plethora of great restaurants and any hotels you can name of every budget, making this an ideal place to stay for a few days. You can take in the natural beauty of Busse Woods Forest Preserve, located in Cook County. The hiking trails are vast and wide-open. There is everything you need in this little town. 46/100

So the fest was this past weekend, and it far exceeded my expectations…read more Unfortunately for everyone in attendance, it was a sweltering 95+ degree summer day, but the delicious food, music and huge amount of beer options made the sweat dripping down my neck and back bearable (Brew Fest Organizers, pleaseeeee consider making it an Oktoberfest!)   The sample punchcard was printed on the back of the paper map of the fest that you get when you arrive.  Another fest I went to had a lanyard punch card, which I thought was a nice touch...but not as green as this was.  So, yay for recyclables!    It really didn't matter if you had a punchcard once you were inside...because no one marked off your samples unless you literally put it in their face and asked them to.  Not that anyone needs more than 20 beer samples, but they almost seemed offended when I asked them to mark my card!   The music was good, the food was fabulous and I especially loved the Bravazzi Italian hard sodas. I saw them at Caputo's the next day.  Now I know where to buy them next time I'm craving one. My MOST favorite-ist beer of the entire night was Roaring Table's 5:00 tap special - a fruity/berry sour with whipped cream on top.  What a way to finish off the night!!!

We decided to make a day of it, starting out with a wonderful lunch in the French Market adjacent to the station. What a delightful way to start off a cool saturday morning before an afternoon of heavy beer drinking. Sandwiches from Pastoral, modelo tallboys from the CVS located within the well air-conditioned building, and hot crispy frites from the belgian shop, SCORE, great start. After the luxuriously delicious meal, we bought our $7 weekend passes (super-cheapo bonus) and hopped aboard with previously mentioned tall-boys and played a game a Yahtzee while the hour quickly passed. Arriving at the station around 3:30, the festivities were well underway with several hundred beer-fanatics vigorously imbibing. The free t-shirts were long gone, but they offered past years T's for just $5 if you pleased. I paid my $40 ($35 before), grabbed my tasting glass and had at it. Some notable attendees included Floosmoor Station with two specialty kegs tapped early and dry soon (everyone love FS), as well as Lucky Monk's Oatmeal Stout and Wheat WIne (WOWZA WAS THIS TASTY). I also thoroughly enjoyed selections from Limestone Brewing, Half Acre, and Wild Onion's Hop Slayer was down-right awesome. I love me some IBU's and this packed in the hops. The brews and patrons were all top-notch and made for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon (3-7PM). Best part (besides the beer of course: proceeds from the Barrington Brew Fest go to the Barrington Area Council on Aging serving seniors and caregivers. After a great day of craft-brews, we headed back one minute to the Metra and rode home, arriving before 8PM, just in time for late dinner and ready for round-2.
