I came here on a Tuesday for Trivia Night with my mum and cousins. I was jetlagged as I'd just arrived that day from the US but I'd heard all year about how much fun Trivia Night is from my family that I wanted to go. And what a surprise to find out it's run by my old high school maths teacher!
We arrived early to eat dinner and it was a shock to see how different the Elephant looks inside. I've had many fun times here - the last one a hazy memory of St Patricks Day many years back, so it was crazy to see how different it all looked. I ordered a chicken parmi and when it arrived it was the almost larger than the plate! It came with salad and chips, but I couldn't finish it all (plus I'm not much of a chicken fan. I know, I know - why did you order it then, is what you might be saying as you're reading along! Truth be told I ordered it for nostalgia. I'm a sentimental girl and ordering a chicken parmi in a ridgy didge pub like the Elephant is just part and parcel).
The pub started to get full as the trivia portion of the night began. My family and I were pretty decent. Any celebrity trivia question was my section because there's a special place reserved in my brain for useless celebrity related trivia (which I despise). We were beaten out by the pub's barflies - you know the types that are always there, always drinking, always have an opinion - those guys. How they got every question correct is beyond me. Actually no it's not; if we used Google search on our phones like they did we would've won too. But my family are an honest bunch and I was proud of our efforts. read more
