I checked out the "North Pavilion" when searching for a venue for a charity event. Only residents can rent the pavilion (via lantanalive.com -- facility rentals), but we know folks who are residents. It's very reasonably priced and alcohol is allowed - which can be key for donations at charity events - so I was very interested. Initial impression when walking up: nice pavilion overlooking a large, nice pond. The pavilion is right next to a playground and a pool, so you could have neighboring activity depending on when you used it. But I thought the whole set-up was really nice, especially for the price and allowing the use of alcohol. On the alcohol note, if you trash the facility, they'll charge you for it - but that should go without saying. Many picnic tables are present, which is nice. This place could easily accommodate 100 people. I want to say the website says it can hold 200 people, but I find that hard to imagine. Also, the parking lot isn't massive... so a large event could lead to cumbersome parking. I imagine this pavilion would be great for birthday parties and family get-togethers, but a larger scale event... would require more planning. Scoping out the pool, I noted there was no diving board. Other than that, it looked nice enough, and a covered kiddie pool was adjacent. Nice area. Pool's not that big, though, FYI. See pictures for more details on the area. Being a non-resident, I didn't get any pictures of inside the building (like the gym).

It is very open and looks like it could be used as a small convention site, huge social function, a bazar, wedding or large party! In fact, there were left over streams that looked like a wedding reception had been held. It seems like an old building but had been recently refurbished/painted. For our event, we were seated at large round tables which means some had to turn their chairs. Although we were only there about 3 hours, the venue worked.

One of my relatives mentioned that she wanted to host a mini family reunion but she needed a venue in the Fort Worth area. After brainstorming with a few other relatives, this venue came up. The venue is fairly new and has already hosted many events, from gospel concerts to weekly church services to other gatherings. There are smaller rooms that can be transformed to accommodate the needs of various groups and there is also the grand ballroom that can be rented for more formal events. The prices are very reasonable (think around $300, that's a steal for 4 hours) and includes tables and chairs. You will have to pay a deposit but if you clean up after your event, you deposit will be returned. In addition to being very spacious on the inside, there is plenty of parking outside as well. This is a great venue and should not be overlooked because of its location.

I was headed to the highly rated local coffee shop, The Terrell Coffee Co, which was excellent - but the numerous incredibly intricate murals on almost all the buildings invited me to linger a bit and explore. So instead of grabbing my coffee and hitting the road as originally planned, I did just that - I sipped my Brown Butter Banana Latte while I stretched my legs and read about all the historic murals I managed to pass by on my little jaunt.  The town is small but very quaint and welcoming and the murals are certainly worth a stop if you're in the area. And bonus fun fact - this is the hometown of actor Jamie Foxx! And yup, there's a mural of him on one of the historic buildings of course lol!  There are around 16 murals total I think - and there were helpful walking route maps in the downtown area. They were painted by nearby artists Sunny Delipsey and Charlie Bullock in an effort to capture the early history of the town and they certainly do a wonderful job of that. Near most of the murals I passed by, there were little history information signs about each one with interesting details. So it's definitely worth a gander if you have some time to explore.  The town was established in 1873 as a railroad town for the Texas and Pacific Railroad line. Another interesting bit of Terrell history is that the "No. 1 British Flying Training School" was actually located here during WWII, tasked with training British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots during the war - how random is that?? That they would train British pilots in this tiny Texas town?? I enjoyed my brief sojourn in Terrell and would recommend a stop here for anyone passing by!
