The only way I became aware that the visit was not billed as a wellness check -- and that I was responsible for an unexpected balance -- was when I received a bill several months later. I was never informed at the appointment that this would occur or that the billing would be handled differently than what was scheduled. In my opinion, this is fraudulent billing -- patients should never be misled about the nature of a visit or the financial consequences, and should not learn of unexpected charges months later with no opportunity to correct or question it. I will be reporting this practice to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners and the Nevada Division of Insurance.
