Meh. After a great experience at Color Run last July, my group of 7 expanded to a group of 13 would-be runners at Electric Run. I was utterly disappointed at the whole event. Most of the "runners" just wanted to get the whole 5k over with. There really isn't anything fun about giant lighted teddy bears, ice cream cones beach balls and a "land" with some music. Yea we did do a lot of selfies for Instagram purposes but the whole course isn't anything to brag about to your friends back home. What provided some laughs and entertainment was a couple of drunk ass girls tipping over and stumbling all over the same area for about maybe 30 mins. (I saw them on our way to the water station and as we finish the course). I couldn't help but laugh at their stupidity. Even the sponsors were meh. Rockstar gave out some drinks. That's about it. There were beer and some food for sale, but passed on it. After run party tried to be fun but kind of failed. I guess this is where the beer for sale is supposed to kick in. Would probably be a lot more fun if I was a little tipsy. My bad. Overall, Electric Run didn't deliver and this would be the first and last for me. read more

This year's Electric run turned out to be a boring disappointment. For $60 through Groupon, you get a tshirt, Led bracelet, ring and glasses. The event had people by the thousands. Thousands just walking and taking pictures next to giant teddy bears, ice cream cones, muffins and jelly fish. Wtf. More people ran during this ever than the Color run since there was nothing to see or anything to do. Just boring walks in the dark leading up to a party at the finish line. The Color Run at least had checkpoints of color tossed at you. Sponsors were incredibly weak. Nothing to eat or any free handouts besides Rockstar energy drinks. If you have to participate in a run, stick to the Color run. The best thing about this event is when you leave the parking lot to go eat. read more

I did the run for the first time with my friends this year and I had a blast We got our tickets on Groupon and I think its crazy that the original price is $60 but anyway For the Groupon price all you get is access to the run and stage and a tee Get your own glow in the dark stuff from Party City or Target like we did. I did Electric Run for the first time this past summer. I had heard amazing things about it, and after seeing all the pictures and facebook posts from the event in other cities, I was super excited. In case you know nothing about Electric Run, it's basically a 5k at night in a course that has been designed to simulate running through multiple "worlds" - areas that each have their own style and environment, filled with colorful lights, decorations, music and photo areas. One of my favorite things to do is run at night, but as a woman, I don't have to tell you how dangerous that can be, especially alone. This was one of my few opportunities to do it in a safe, controlled space. The location for the NYC Electric Run is especially annoying. It's way out in Brooklyn, past Kings Plaza, literally in the middle of nowhere. I'm not faulting Electric Run as an org for this, because in this already cluttered city, it's gotta be super hard to find large empty fields that will let you completely take over and litter it with decorations for days, while keeping it relatively affordable. To compensate for this, Electric Run has shuttles that take runners from the field up to the Flatbush Ave 2,5 train stop at no charge. Unfortunately, there weren't enough of these shuttles and the line was SUPER long. Fortunately, illegal cab drivers in Brooklyn are opportunists, and once they heard that a bunch of hipsters had flocked to a field in Anywhere, Brooklyn to run around with neon outfits on, they came in droves to park outside waiting to take us back to Brooklyn for $5 each. So long as you're cool with piling into an unmarked van and jamming to loud dancehall (I strongly recommend it), you'll be home in no time. I made the mistake of not successfully convincing any of my friends to run with me. So by the time race day came, I was doing it alone. I felt a little lonely seeing everyone else arrive in groups, but that quickly dissipated. The entry time is staggered, fyi, so when I arrived there was already lots of people who had already completed the race. The vibe of the event feels like a straight up party. Everyone is dressed festively in funky outfits that are comfortable for running but with a twist -- girls in running gear with a tutu on, that kind of thing. People bought flashing lights to accessorize with, rings with blinking lights on them, glowing necklaces and glasses, the works--all of which are provided by the organization itself. Thanks to the awesome staff, the lines moved quickly and easily. As you enter the course itself, you see rows of vendors serving food, beer and drinks, and a crowd of finished racers who were already dancing by a stage to an amped up DJ. Mostly top 40, but still a solid DJ. The course itself felt surreal, like a nighttime wonderland. Neon lights and black lights everywhere that truly brought each "world" to life. Everyone was smiling as they ran, good vibes everywhere. Some walked, some had stopped to take pictures. Quirky things like a mini car shaped like a mushroom came around, giving people rides to the finish line who were sick of running. Each world had its own dance music to keep you in the mood. I did the race with my own playlist in my headphones, but it was still a positive, magical experience, and doing it solo made it a peaceful and meditative adventure. Probably not what Electric Run had in mind, but equally awesome, I promise. No matter how you choose to do the run or what shape you're in, you'll have a blast. read more

I debated between a 2 or 3 stars. But my review is going to be a two-fold review of Philadelphia Electric run from 2013 and NYC run 2014 (saturday) which will make sense when I complete my review. I didn't have a bad time, but I did expect the "worlds" to be better instead of just inflatables and colored lights...and the most egregious issue for me was the ONE song on loop...I was probably like one of the thousands that saw the advertisement videos online and wanted to have a fun experience. YES i read that there would be periods of darkness throughout the course...you can't reasonably light 1.5miles with lights. I'm fine with that, but the "lit up worlds" was a let down. They could've went all out considering the price per person. Also they need some more officials with lights providing better directions. What i thought was good was the customer service. I came as a philly transfer. Last year, the event was cancelled due to rain and it never came back so they gave us the option to transfer to another location. NYC was the only one that fit my schedule. Another plus at this NYC location was the FREE parking. In philly, they raped everyone with a $20 parking fee...i didn't fall for it so i parked for free somewhere else. They did provide shuttle buses at Philly location but the traffic around the event was horrible, making buses slower than those that walked to the event. The after party was the real reason I traveled to this race. The DJ played a mixture of music which was understandable considering the diverse crowd... Can't have edm all night. But the DJ failed to read the crowds energy, or shall I say lack of energy. He kept being his own hype man which was annoying. The sound system was too loud in certain spots making it deafening and out right uncomfortable listening to. Exiting the event was a breeze though!! I honestly have to agree with everyone else, despite not having another electric run experience to compare it to. But this was honestly a EPIC rip off and a waste of my time. Id having more fun ordering glow paint, water guns, alcoholic beverage of choice and have my friends in my backyard squirting each other...Actually that sounds pretty cool. I might have to do that! lol. Dont waste your time, money, its cool for pictures but honestly it wasnt worth it. To my knowledge no charity is tied to the race so the really positive part if having pics to post online. yippe NOT... -____- So lets summarize Pros Cool pics for FB, IG, Pinterest etc... Cons DJ sucked Decorations were bland Overpriced LQ Security was rude No hype men of people running the track Repetitive music Water Station with cups across the table with warm ass water... ugh never again even if they paid me and reimbursed for gas and toll. read more

Seems like I dont need to do much talking since the reviews have stated everything! It was a bit of disspaointment. Very underwhelming experience. I was so excited to participate in the Electric Run for the first time this year. It promised to be an energy-infused feast for the ears and eyes. It turned out to be a boring slog through the ass-end of Brooklyn, with the same 3 songs on repeat at intermittent light and sound "lands," marked by glowing inflatables for children. (Note: the music was unsynced among "lands," and, unbelievably, unsynced within "lands." Yes, I'm telling you that as I was running the 200 feet from the first glowing Gummy bear to the last in one of the "lands," I heard two playbacks of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," one 10 seconds behind the other.) That's enough to show you they were really phoning it in, but let's review a list of the promises broken by Electric Run: 1) There will be someone at Brooklyn College Station to direct you to the buses. Lies. We made the lucky choice to follow some other decked-out ladies to the right bus. 2) There will be a party to "reward" (??) those who arrive early. Lies. It was silent as the grave when we arrived on site at around 6:45. I feel bad for anyone who arrived earlier than necessary to pick up their packet. (And didn't nearly everyone need to pick up their packet onsite because the only pre-race packet pick-up location was Woodside, Queens?) 3) You will be charged $5 to pick up your pack onsite. Lies. We were handed our packets free of charge. And yes I am going to hold this against them - it's another example of misinformation and disorganization. 4) Your wave starts at 8:50pm. Lies. When my friend formed our team, we were told our wave would start at 8:50pm. As the race approached, we received an email saying the last wave would begin the race at 8:40pm. Well, we needn't have been confused, because it turned out there were exactly zero discernible waves. So we spent about an hour painting our arms and legs with glow-in-the-dark body paint and decking ourselves out with glow necklaces in the Aviator Sports Center onsite. At some point we all started to wonder if we should be outside...you know, running the course, but there was no one to ask. With no help from anyone in any official capacity, (and in the dark!) we figured out where the start was and made our way there. No one checked the bracelet that was supposed to serve as my proof of payment, no one asked what wave I was supposed to be in. We just rocked right up and joined the group waiting to race. 5) IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT BY OUR FINAL WAVE START TIME AT 8:40PM YOU SHOULD STILL COME ENJOY OUR FINISH LINE CELEBRATION GOING UNTIL 12:00AM. Lies. As we finished the race nearing 9:30pm, we saw people just starting it. 6) There will be enough light in these "dark" areas to make it safe to run. Lies. The asphalt course had a ton of potholes, and because it was SO dark between the "lands," you couldn't see them to avoid them. Even if it wasn't boiling hot, and even if the course wasn't so crowded, running would not have been advisable. I'm amazed no one twisted an ankle. 7) Electric Run promises to transport the mind, body and soul to a new world in a healthy and drug-free way. Lies. I smelled a LOT of marijuana. Just saying. 8) The Electric Run features immersive "Lands" of light and sound that transport the participant into an electric wonderland. Lies. Sure, we had some glowing gummy bears and a few ice cream cones on our course, but these was minimal, and not visually engaging. And, hey, where were these "lands"? -Fitbit Electric Avenue -Rockstar Powerhouse -Delta Station 8) The lights and sounds will kick up a notch as you cross the finish line. Neon trees, glowing arches, lasers, glowing beach balls and other lighting effects will all dance to the music celebrating your return. Lies. Unless of course they mean the lights and sounds will kick up from zero? And, for the record, NO beach balls or neon trees, or even the gummy bears for that matter, were dancing. 9) Participants are encouraged to join in on the art by lighting up with glow sticks, LEDs and anything else their imagination can conjure up. I'm guessing the first place they want my imagination to turn to is their merch site, electricwear.com, which sells multiple black light items, including black light body paint, which we bought in 3 colors for $30. THE ONLY PLACE I SAW BLACK LIGHTS ON THIS ENTIRE COURSE WAS BY THE WATER STATION. Awesome, I get to enjoy my black light paint body art for a full 5 seconds as I chug. Later I'll spend approximately an hour scrubbing it all off in the shower. 10) Partnership with Uber. Lies. As my 25 minute wait time for a car indicates, Uber had no knowledge of this event. Very disappointed in this years run. No greeters st the shuttle bus location. I bought glow glasses at the race, they didn't work & they made no effort to replace them. There were long periods of time where you were just walking, no land/music? There were only 5 lands -two of which were just inflated columns and balls? What kind of theme is that? Also it sucks that the company deleted all the comments about this weekends race from their fb page (an entire thread of 40+ comments) Won't be running or suggesting this race in the future. read more

Last year was so much better. It had good music, good lights and good energy. There were dancers in light-up costumes and everyone had a great time. This year was a total disappointment. The music consisted of mainstream music, 2000s music and at one point in the run, the Mario song played WTF? Some areas of the run did not even play music. The rave/after-run party was terrible as well. The DJ wouldn't shut up and let people enjoy the music. His songs sucked too. He would interrupt the drops of the music with his annoying talking. What a vibe killer. I looked around the crowd and people weren't feeling the adrenaline of the event at all. There were barely any lights compared to last year. I swear, the brightest thing at the event was the tunnel. There were some areas where it was completely dark. Very disappointed and a waste of money. Last year was crazy but this year was not. Huge disappointment. My friends and I were looking forward to being transported to a world of different electric wonderlands and beautifully lit scenery. Boy were we wrong. Once we crossed the starting line, I was so excited to see what awaited us. Well, it never came. A few lit ice cream cones and gummy bears were about as crazy as it got. Such a boring set up. It was an out and back course and the music was on a loop - yay, we just heard that song ten minutes ago. We didn't see any course marshals at all. The plan had been to walk it to experience it better but I was actually thinking of running it just to be done with it quicker. If the race was cheap, it wouldn't have bothered me so much but it wasn't. Only pro was there was no line for the porta potty. Overall very poor execution. read more

I had a lot of fun at the one in Boston last year. I even bought VIP tickets this year which get you nothing apparently. The party was not set up for early arrivals like they said. The decorations we very boring and everything seemed a hug mess. Terrible. Even the after party kept repeating songs. Not worth it. read more

I had a blast at last year's Electric Run and was really looking forward to last night's Run. What a huge disappointment! All the beautiful, colorful lands/worlds from last year was gone. In its place were a few huge ice cream cones, cupcakes, gummy bears, jelly fish and these phallic looking things. They had the same 3-4 songs on loop. Last year everyone ran around, excitedly taking selfies and group shots with the colorful and beautiful backgrounds. Not so much this year. People basically just kept walking, waiting to see something exciting . We couldn't wait to finish it. You should be ashamed, Electric Run. What a waste of time and money. I'm only giving one star because it made me. PS, so far Electric Run has responded by deleting all negative comments about the NY and Philly events off their Facebook page. Cowards. read more

I went to this last year and it was fun but this year was awful. They hardly had any stuff on the run, the music kept playing the same 4 songs at each station over and over. It was a total bust. Not worth the $50 to go. I won't be going again next year. read more

Not what I expected at all. I went to the after party and it was not organized at all between parking wise and set up wise. And to go on stage friends and I waited an hour and a half to get on and we never got on. The lady that let people on said "there is no order my eyes are the order" and picked favorites, people would slide into the side to merge and she let those people in instead of the paitently waiting groups. And once it was our turn to go they shut down due to lightening, and when Told the lady I was waiting an hour and a half she kept insisting the people behind me were first. It was a mess and totally disorganized. And for the website saying any age is appropriate is ridiculous. All of the wild kids were drinking and drunk at the after party, it was terrible trying to get out of the crowd. I do not recommend this event to anyone. Very disappointed. read more

i signed up for the electric run and opted to form a team. this was not a cheap 'fun run' - i paid $66.00 and change. although none of my assumed team mates signed up i am sure thrilled that they didn't. this event was the worst event i have ever been to and not only will i never do it again, i will let all my clients and students know just what a wreck it was! let's begin with the fact that i did not receive my race 'pak' in the mail. ok, no harm done - i will go pick it up. only to find that the pick up locations are the race site or long island. WHAT??????? no manhattan pick up point - seriously? alright, i will do 'day of' pick up. i arrived in brooklyn at 6:45 PM to a throng of folks outside the subway stop. no one, and i mean NO ONE, knew exactly what was going on and there was not one single person from the race there to direct us or give us any info. finally a school bus came towards the group, slowed down and then kept going through the intersection. now, you have all these confused people (albeit in very cute costumes) making a mad dash for the bus. there was no line, no organization. just folks piling on. that bus took off and, 15 minutes later, another bus approached. same story - chaos and definitely not enough room. this happened over and over until 7:50 PM. meanwhile, you have all these gypsy vans cruising by yelling that they would only charge $2.00 to get us there - these vans were sketchy at best and really not an option. i waited until 8:05 and there was no bus in sight. all the while, the only race representative (?) was a young gal in a blue t-shirt screaming at everyone to "back up off the bus". so, believe it or not, i went home. i thought that if GETTING to the race was a nightmare getting back would be worse and i was out of patience. and, after reading the lengthy reviews from others i am sure glad i left. the race organizers should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for charging anything for and presenting such a poor event. i did send an email to the website but i don't expect anything at all. i will stick to spartan races from now on! read more
