The large grassy area.

This is a great neighborhood park. There's a community garden, picnic tables, a concrete area (I've seen fitness classes and camps happening there), a large grassy area, walkways, and 2 playgrounds. One playground is for the younger ones and the other, I'd say, is for 5 and up, but even the larger playground is separated with a structure for younger children and a structure for older children. There are always kids there for my daughter to play with and it never feels too crowded. Every time we've been there, everyone is wearing masks. My daughter loves playing there and I love hanging out there while she does!

Cute little park with playgrounds, an open field for sports and benches. There's street parking and I've never had an issue finding a parking spot. There are no bathrooms unfortunately or this would be a perfect spot to hang out outdoors. The park is well maintained and there's a sidewalk that goes around the field if you want to run or walk on a paved surface. There are two separate playground areas that are now open and there's also a small garden area with benches you can sit and relax in.

Emily Pardee's beautiful tribute to her daughter Eleanor, this park boasts more than 9 acres of fun, spaces for reflection or stretching out for a nap in the sun, a jogging path and a multi-purpose stage area. Pardee, who was a community activist, deeded the land to Palo Alto in 1920 in memory of her daughter, Eleanor, who died of typhoid as a young girl. There's plenty here to keep active youngsters busy for hours including a sand and water play area, a zip line and play structures for different development stages. I've always appreciated that the play equipment is fenced in giving little ones who think bolting is hilarious a tangible border to play in.

Tot lot

My 2 year old and I recently checked out this park and he loved it! They have two separate gated playgrounds, one for toddlers and one for older kids, and a large grassy field. We spent 2 hours at the tot lot and he still didn't want to leave! The tot lot has a climber with a slide, swings (including a handicap swing), a teeter-totter, sandbox, spinner, and small bench for snack time. The ground is the rubbery material. There are no bathrooms. Very clean playground. Adding this to our playground rotation!

Beautiful park with lots of space and a great play structure for kids. It's too bad those great big trees were cut down.

There were 2 volunteers who were helpful explaining everything. On the way out with our 6 month old boy and 9 month old girl we stopped at the playground near the parking (which was adequate given it was a Friday afternoon). They had a wonderful time swinging on the swings. There were a full set of play things available for slightly older children. Everything was as clean as could be expected. We had a very nice day at the park.

There are two donkeys that live there. They are named April and Buddy. You can see them walking the park with their care takers from time to time. You can meet the donkeys for a walk on Sundays from 10-11 a.m. There use to be three donkeys. The third was named Perry and he passed this year, 2025. Perry was the donkey that Disney's- Shrek's donkey was based off of. They are gentle and sweet and friendly to visitors. You can donate to the donkeys at https://barronparkdonkeys.org. My dog and I love walking the pathways and hanging out around the grass fields and trees. It's a great place for kids because of the cute playground, picnic tables and water fountains.

What I like: Free entry, huge free parking lot, and bathrooms. You can keep it simple with a walk or bike ride on the trails, or make it more of an activity day with the lake. The lake is manmade and they have a boathouse where you can rent equipment. Sailing, paddle boating, that kind of vibe. I've also seen the boathouse area used for group events, so it's good for a casual outing or even something organized. A few practical notes: It's mostly flat, which is great, but there's very little shade, so if it's sunny bring water and plan accordingly. Weekends can get crowded, especially when the weather is good. Overall, it's a clean, convenient park with enough variety that you can keep coming back and not get bored.

Unfortunately, the Rengstorff House just closed when we arrived. We were able to walk around and check out the lake and some of the other areas though.
