I just picked up my 6 month old pup from his 2 day stay at Elaine's! He has never been away from me overnight since he was 8 weeks old. I was nervous that he was not going to adjust well, but according to staff he loved it and did very good. The main reason I chose to go with Elaine's was because of all the good recommendations from past employees (current co workers). I was nervous, I called a total of 3 times in 2 days. I spoke with Hannah and Jayna, they were both very nice and answered all my questions. Neither of them made me feel crazy for being an overbearing mother. Theodore had a blast! Because he is 6 months old and not neutered, he did not get any play time with other pups, even though he's been allowed at puppy playgroup with Emily. That made me a little sad for him because he loves playing with other dogs!!! But hopefully next time he goes he'll be fixed and allowed to play with other dogs. Besides that he did get one on one puppy play time and 3 walks. His feeding schedule at home is opposite of their feeding schedule by a few hours. They give the first meal around 6:30am and the last one is approximately 6pm (I believe). We were able to get him Back on his normal schedule pretty quickly. The vaccines required for boarding are 5-in-1, bordetella, influenza, and rabies. I planned for him to be very social so the vaccines weren't an issue at all. Overall I would recommend Elaine's and I'm sure Theodore will be back in the future. read more

Everytime we leave our pet we attempt to leave a detailed message with the staff on just what we want and want to pay. But each time we pickup our pet there is always extra charges that we did not want costing us more money and in at least 2 cases it was substantial. There is always an apology but still ,,YOU must pay for the misunderstanding. I'd like to start by providing a little insight to my dog, Honey. She is a husky shepherd mix and my entire world. She is very anxious and can be very shy in scenarios where she is in a new environment and around new people. I had my wedding coming up and of course, everyone I could have known to take care of her would be in attendance, so I started looking into boarding facilities for the first time. Between researching many reviews and information on the pet boarding facilities in town, I made the decision to come to Elaine's. Elaine's scheduled a meet and greet for Honey which I was pleasantly surprised to learn about. They ensure that an anxious dog like my own would be comfortable in a new environment before a long stay. She went in for her first day, nervous as ever, but I received a report card at the end of her day saying she acclimated well to the staff and the facility. My wedding weekend finally approaches and Honey goes in for her 3 day stay. With so many other things to worry about, I was very relieved to be able to call in and find out how Honey was doing without me. I wanted to include that she did need to be temperament tested for their group play, which she did not pass on the first go. However, the staff was very kind and could see that Honey was nervous and displayed behavior that she wanted to play but needed more time to get comfortable. I am happy to report that upon a 2nd group play temperament test, she passed. There is nothing more stressful than a wedding day, and I am so happy Elaine's could make that weekend for me a little easier knowing my precious pup was in extremely capable and good hands. The staff is extremely knowledgeable in reading dog behaviors and how to act accordingly for the dog's safety. Elaine's Pet Resorts - Honey at Elaine's - Pet Training Near Me - Madera, California

I have two kittens, and after booking to travel back to Scotland for a couple of weeks I began the search for a place to board them. I'd heard of Elaine's through family who've boarded their dog here. Since there weren't any other good options for cat boarding, I decided to take the plunge and call. The staff are all very friendly and took down all our details before giving me a quote - around $20 per night per cat. There are some optional extras including health insurance, and tax is then added, but I didn't incur any hidden fees. Food is provided, but you can also label and provide your own food - which I did and they gave me back the leftovers. The cat area is a large room with small cages on either side, like you'd see at a cat sanctuary. There are some cat trees and toys in the middle of the room and big bowls of water and litter trays for communal use. Each little booth has 2 sides accessible to the cat via a little hole - one side for sleeping, the other for food bowls and litter tray. As far as I saw, the cats are given a chance to roam around while their cubbies are being cleaned and during the day. Both times I returned for them, they were out of their cubby and running around with the other cats. I assume they're locked away in their rooms overnight (this location is open 7am-4pm most days) and there always seem to be staff around, in and out of the room, during opening hours, so the chances of run-ins between the cats didn't seem very likely. Elaine's required the kittens had the feline distemper and rabies vaccines. They contacted our vet Waterhouse, directly to get a fax of their medical records, which saved me the trouble. Elaine's also required that the kittens come in for a day visit - from 8am to anywhere between 12 and 4pm - which they say is to get the cats used to the place but I think it's also to make sure the pets are manageable (i.e. not completely feral). That was fine, so they took a few more details for our booking. On the day, I dropped the kittens off and the staff gave me their direct line and welcomed me to call them as often as I liked. When I did ring a few days into their stay they gave me an update, saying the girls were doing fine, which put my mind at ease. When we picked them up 2 weeks later, they'd given them a nickname and seemed genuinely sad that the kittens were leaving. All in all it was a great and easy experience. The kittens hid out a bit the first time I took them for a visit, but after a few days of their second stay they seemed to get along fine there. They seemed perfectly happy and they didn't come home stressed. Now that they're registered, I'll continue to bring my cats here whenever i'm out of town for more than a few days. read more

Love, love, love Elaine's Pet Resort! Our pup Lucky has stayed here many times with the longest stay being a week and the staff have always taken great care of our pup from what we can tell. Elaine's place is very nice, clean and offers tours for those interested in keeping your pet family here when needed. There is dog/cat boarding and day care. For the dogs Elaine's has choices on the size of kennels for your pet from small to huge which have different prices. Elaine's has two huge fenced play areas one for group play and one is for one on one time with a staff member. The two play areas are a mirror image of each other and have a walk in fountain/shallow pool with concrete dog heads that have streaming water from the dogs mouths into the fountain/pool and huge lush green lawns for stretching those legs. During our pups stay he gets taken out three times a day when being boarded this is mandatory for all stays then we pay for upgrades like an hour playtime with a staff member twice a day or sometimes group play where he can mingle and make friends, tuck in service where they will read to your pup or give them attention before bedtime, turkey dinners and a bath before pickup. There is a bunch of options on upgrades and packages for your pets stay at Elaine's. The prices are good, especially for the reassurance your pet is being well taken care of. The staff are WONDERFUL. You can call during business hours and check up on your pet, the staff will send someone to check up on them and give you an update on how they are doing during your pets stay. At pickup the staff will give you a report card/cards on your pet/pets stay with things like who they made friends, how your pets play time went etc. Elaine's has photo op events during most holidays offered with a day care package. If you sign up online you will get a monthly newsletter with what is going on and being offered that month. Another great thing I love is that during your pets stay they charge you $1.00 a day for a (pet care warranty) that covers up to $500 if your pet has any medical issues from there stay. I have used this twice for minor things and both times I was reimbursed my entire vet bill within just a few days. This is a great service to offer, it shows you that Elaine's is confident with providing the best for your pets. I was so excited to bring my 11 month old puppy to Elaine's in Madera. SHe is a large breed and over 70 pounds. It is close to my work and my pup loves other dogs and water. Sadly, they did not want her. She was "uncomfortable" with the staff during her "meet and greet." I asked how about the water and other dogs - she didn't participate in any of that. She was walked to a cage by an attendant who didn't smile once at drop off or pick-up. I was told because she "curled her lip" they couldn't get her leash on so she stayed in the indoor cage all day. No windows- no interaction. They had me get her because they couldn't get her leash on. It is not a welcoming environment in the sheds. I was told to schedule another meet and greet right away - because sometimes puppies need more time. I asked where to do that - was told the front desk - the front desk said we don't do that - call reservations. Called when I got home - left a message because all representatives were helping "another customer." Maybe they should hire more people who like dogs and not have all of them all help one person, but I digress. They never called me back. We took another dog there years ago and he loved it - clearly the interest for new customers and love of pups was not there for my newest pet. Only wish they had told me sooner to save her the trauma of being caged and isolated all day. P.S. They are all about upselling their services...when they think they want your pet. read more

Why is it that there are TEN filtered legitimate positive reviews for this place, yet the only unfiltered review (and therefore, the only review establishing their star-rating) is a scathing review from someone who's ONLY posted twice - and both posts happen to be about both locations for Elaine's Fresno and Madera. Excuse me Yelp, but one of those hidden positive comments happens to be from a family member and I can STILL find every single one of her other reviews on local businesses UNFILTERED. What gives here? Anyways, back to my review... I've boarded my three year old black lab at the Madera Resort two times and both times, they took great care of her. No complaints from me or my pooch. Each time I picked her up, she was happy, groomed and was in no distress whatsoever. Also, I've toured their facilities and can say that their grass is INDEED real, kennels are clean and spacious and the staff seems to genuinely care about their canine guests. I would (and have) recommended this place to friends with dogs and will continue to do so. Yelp, please go back and check those filtered reviews because as a small business owner myself, this situation makes me question your validity and integrity as a legitimate online review source. read more

How is it my puppy goes to better resorts than me?! Upon entering, you are greeted with a smile and nice staff. There is also a wall with pictures of the "guests" and video of the dogs playing in the yard and pool. My dog has been going here for about 5 years....they do a very nice job. The place is clean and seems spacious. It's not just a bunch of kennels in a dark room. Lhasa (my baby) gets here same kennel each time (it's a little bigger) and knows where she is at. We pay extra so she can have more yard time....she gets to play in a pool they have as well. Big grassy areas and depending on how your pup plays with others, may get to have "shared" time as well (if your dog gets chippy they get yard time to themselves). The staff takes good care of giving our dog here twice daily pills and feedings, and at the end of the stay you get hand written notes from staff who play with your dog telling you what the 'beast' did each day and a magnet picture for the fridge. We also pay to have her get a nice bath before picking her up so she always looks great after leaving! Elaine's is not cheap but it is worth it - we are never concerned or frightened for our dog. We will continue to use this resort every time! read more

Okay a few months back I had a poor experience with some personnel at Elaine's. I had attempted to reach out directly to the owners after this issue without success so I took upon myself to post a poor review from that experience. We have used Elaine's for over five years. Never have we been disappointed with the service for our dog. I met with the owner today and discussed the challenges I had and I have to say the owner is a very reasonable person. I give him credit for meeting with me to discuss after the negative posting I had given and his willingness to have an open discussion. Took my dog for his "two day trial" for doggy daycare. The employees did not pass him because he is shy and takes time to warm up to people, which doesn't happen over 48 hours. They called to inform me, just a few hours into his 2nd day that he will not be accepted back at this resort due to his nervousness. It's extremely irritating to know that my dog did nothing to harm or put others at risk, while each time I visited this establishment, owners brought dogs in who were aggressive, and continuously jumped on staff, while staff raised their voices at the dogs telling them to "get off". This kind of behavior is allowed here, yet my shy dog, minding his own business is not? INTERESTING. Was a complete waste of $52 that could have went into a daycare that would take my dog regardless of his shyness. Also, when going to pick up my dog, employees did not greet me, nor apologize for not allowing him to continue, or say something as simple as "have a nice day". Poor customer service, and common courtesy. Animals take time, and patience, and this is clearly something Elaine's Resort does stand for. I recommend taking your dog to Pet Medical Spa, as they take all pets and welcome them with open arms regardless of behavior that takes time and patience like mine :) read more

As soon as we discovered Elaine's Pet Resort we knew we had found the place for our pets. We tried pet sitters but were never comfortable with giving someone the key to our home, and we always wondered how much time they were really there and if they remembered to lock all the doors and close the gates. We like the idea that at Elaine's you can decide exactly how much time and what kind of activity my dog actually has devoted. We have a puppy and an older dog and they activities specifically designed for each one. My wife and I would like to find a resort for ourselves that caters to us so well. Boarded my 18 mo golden for 17 days in November and brought him home a hot MESS. Keep in mind my golden has NEVER had an ear infection EVER before (and we have a swimming pool that he spent ALL summer in). The SECOND my husband brought him in the house you could SMELL the horrid stench and SEE the drainage exuding from his right ear. He was VIOLENTLY ripping and tearing at his ear incessantly to the point that he had developed a hematoma the size of an ORANGE in his pinna (ear lobe). He was suffering greatly. THAT bad of an infection did NOT happen overnight. I absolutely SHUDDER to think how LONG this negligent and incompetent group of THIEVES allowed my sweet boy to suffer, but I am SURE it was days upon end. I went to the phone and IMMEDIATELY called them to complain - was told I was charged $1/day for 'insurance' and this policy would cover his vet bills. Are you KIDDING me, I mean SERIOUSLY? Why did you ALLOW this to go on??? Why did Elaine's not obtain medical attention for him, making him WAIT until our return, especially if I had already PAID them for an 'insurance' policy? Disgraceful! Shame in you, you people. And for THIS type of neglect and inhumane treatment Elaine's charged us $1,200.00! Yes folks, that's right, ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS, to allow him to suffer while under their 'care'. He was so bad he had to be placed on oral steroids for several weeks in addition to ear drops daily. Our vet said it was from the pool they let them play in (in NOVEMBER!!!). They have no BUSINESS letting these dogs in water IN THE WINTER, and if they can't properly and adequately dry them off AFTERWARD, and GUARANTEE the cleanliness and sanitation of the pool, SHUT THEM DOWN. But THEN, to not NOTICE how ill he was? HOW COULD YOU NOT??? You could SMELL the infection, you could SEE the drainage from and lump on his ear, and if you were paying ANY attention WHATSOEVER, you would have SEEN him ripping at his ear. BEWARE folks. This type of abuse is CRIMINAL. Forgot to mention ... I was PROMISED a return phone call from the manager to discuss my upset over the negligent way they treated my dog ... NEVER HAPPENED. No big surprise, and I'm left with the VET bills on TOP of the $1,200.00 I paid Elaine's. They FORCE you to PAY for 'insurance' but it is yet ANOTHER of their RIPOFF schemes. My dogs have been going for 3 years and it is the only place I will go. I feel safe knowing my babies are well taken care of. Because of my rotties temperament I worry about doing the pet sitter thing. I like knowing that she is being kept safe and having fun at the same time. I do pay extra for her play time and walks. It's worth it for me to have peace of mind when I go on vacation. I also purchase a package to take them during the day. Trust me if my dogs didn't like it there I would know. Everytime we pull in... My dogs are waggin there tails and can't wait to get inside. When they see the crew... They love them!!;) I definitely recommend this facility. read more

We have been customers at Elaine's for quite some time and our dogs have been treated well. However, our experience over this recent Thanksgiving holiday makes us question whether we will return. We were forced to buy a package that we did not want. This added $180.00 to our bill. They were housed in the same type of kennel as before, but we were told that standard kenneling was full, so we had to have the extras. We are highly disappointed that Elaine's resorted to the price gouging that you see elsewhere over the holidays. read more

We've been taking our dogs to Elaine's in Madera now for over 12 years. Our pampered dogs absolutely love going and always come home wonderfully happy! We usually leave our dogs for short periods of time, so I was nervous leaving our sensitive Golden Retriever for almost 2 weeks. When we went to pick him up he was in fantastic shape and was "kissing" all the girls that worked there. We've also used the Day Care option when we have long work days and love being able to just drop by without a reservation. Another wonderful feature is seeing your dog's picture posted on Facebook while you're gone. The staff has been wonderful about putting up pictures when I've requested it. We love Elaines and are so appreciative for the great care they give our dogs!! read more

I have brought my two dogs here several times. We pay a premium to make sure they get lots of exercise and play time. The place is always busy. All would be great but three of the last 5 times we have boarded the dogs here they have come home sick. Kennel cough twice and now it seems to be the canine flu. We were told when we dropped them off that there would be no group play time since the canine flu was going around. Instead the dogs would be brought out on an individual basis to minimize the risk of passing this flu around. Unfortunately, our dogs came home with the flu anyway. The poor little guys have been coughing and throwing up for two days. Elaine's is very responsive and quickly pays for vet services(you are charged $1.50 per day for insurance). However, it's beginning to seem like a given that they are going to catch something while they are there. My dogs are miserably sick and I'm going to have to find another place to board them next time. read more

I'd heard superlatives about Elaine's for a decade, but had never boarded my Newfoundlands anywhere until I started taking trips abroad several months ago. This boarding facility is 1 of the best discoveries of my life! The facility is happy, peaceful, clean; all staff are personable, professional, and love their clients; every dog I've met at Elaine's is happy to be there, and their owners have given me unsolicited testimonials of praise and gratitude. Staff has taken excellent care of my puppy in consistently giving him attention when he wasn't allowed to be rambunctious post-surgery. When dropped off at Elaine's for daycare or boarding, dogs don't look back at their owners but happily walk away with staff. Elaine's allows me peace of mind when I travel, and -- aside from reasonable rates -- my confidence that my canine kids are being excellently cared for is priceless. read more

I left my three dogs at Elaine's for three nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed my experience from booking to pick up. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive and had my dogs names and medication memorized before we arrived. I was allowed to leave toys, treats and blankets for them. When I picked them up, there were pictures and report cards from their visit waiting for me. My dogs were healthy and happy! Maybe even a little sad to leave, if I'm being honest!! A friend recommended Elaine's when I told her I wish there was a place where my little Sofie could run around out doors while interacting with other pooches. She told me about Elaines and I am so glad I found this place. My little Sofie looks forward to going there for the day and overnite. Took in our pup healthy and picked up our poor baby sick. Took her to the vet the next morning (since it was a sunday when we picked her up). I regularly take my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to Elaine's for play days. Bentley gets so excited when we arrive. He literally scratches at the door to get in! He plays with his friends and goes swimming in the beach entry pool! I pick him up after work and he sleeps all night, exhausted from his active day. The staff is really nice and helpful. I am thankful that Bentley has a fun, safe place to spend the afternoon. I would have given 5 stars if Elaine's offered a pickup and drop off service. :) read more
