I think this is more of a drinking hall than gourmet Japanese restaurant. I used to live nearby and remember feeling the same way every time that I left. The place is decorated pretty cool and they have an immense collection of beers from around the world, but the quality of the fish leaves much to be desired.
Maybe I am being unfair trying to compare the sushi in Los Angeles or San Diego with the sushi of Guadalajara, but some things are best not served to someone you want to come back to your restaurant.
I love sea urchin and was super excited to see sea urchin nigiri on the menu. However, when the plate arrived to my table I was left with the dilemma as to eat it, or not. I come from a coastal community and am used fresh sea urchin. When it is not fresh, the roe start to break down and become kind of slimy, and the smell is not the good type of ocean smell. Yes I ate both pieces and no I did not get sick, but I will not be going back anytime soon.
If you just want to go drink some beers with your friends this place is fine. Just maybe stick to some fried rice or something simple. read more
