The food we ordered is something we've always ordered, but the taste is different, without seasoning or flavor. The sauces were watery, and when we asked to have it taken off the bill because we only tried a single bite, the server refused and made us wait for almost a half hour to come back. I'm from Houston TX and know my Mexican food. El Toro isn't quite what I'm used to because the flavor profiles are a bit more bland than my beloved Tex Mex, but is definitely better than I expected in Wahpeton ND. The food is good quality and the service is great. read more

We stumbled upon El Toro while looking for a place for lunch. I think this would be a 4 star place had every one else in Wahpeton not decided to also visit El Toro at the same time. The place was a mess and the prices were high. However the food was quite good. I wish I would have missed the rush and been able to enjoy the place without all of the hectic chaos. read more

I travel for business a lot and it can be hard in smaller towns to find good food. I am enough of a food snob that I get what good food tastes like. The decor is humorous, but outstanding! It will put a smile on your face unless you are pretty uptight. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. I got a chicken dish with a nice white queso sauce. It had good flavor and enough heat to give it a small kick for me. I don't love spice. Plenty of food. I would eat here again. My co-worker ordered chicken with the verde sauce. El toro is THE place for authentic Mexican food in North Dakota. We ordered our food and it came out no more than 6-7 minutes later- extremely fast! The chips and salsa served as apps are very good as well. The combo #25 is what I got and the queso they use is phenomenal. Not to mention the decor in the place is beautiful and cute. But we have a new winner ! The salsa & chips incredible the meals tasty flavorful & just right amount of heat! Margaritas perfect! In the little town of Wahpeton, North Dakota! How did something so good get here! Don't care it's amazing all of it! If you are traveling on interstate 29 through North Dakota it is well worth getting off the highway and making the 10 mile track into Wahpeton and if you live anywhere in the area Drive for this one .. We had lunch there today and both our meals were a BIG disappointment. My nachos lunch #13 was more like soup. The sour cream melted on the hot plate so the chip were swimming in white goop. I found very little meat and left hungry. My husband had fajitas and had only seven small pieces of meat and the beans and rice were ice cold. Our waiter never came back to ask us how our meal was. Worst Mexican meal ever! I would give it less that one star but it wasn't an option. read more

Very good. Very authentic! Que bueno! I have hav lunch there twice in the last 2 weeks. Chili verde the fist time was excellent, pollo fundido was good. Wahepton, this is a real gem and a break from fast drive thru....ironically El Toro shares a parking lot with Taco John's! I will be a regular. I recently moved here from Phoenix, and I wasn't expecting to find such an awesome Mexican food restaurant. I've been here several times and have tried a different dish each time as well. The chips and salsa are great and the service is fantastic. My favorite entree is the carne asada tacos. Definitely give this place a try. read more
