Like everyone says, I've been coming here for 30+ years. Throughout the years it's changed ownership many times over. I've seen a lot of comments saying it's changed as of recently. YES, it has changed, but for the better. We moved out of state and commonly visit Corona because it's our hometown, and El Torero is a Crown Town Staple. For many years, going to El Torero was a Friday night ritual. Two chile relleno plates and ten beef tacos please. Then, bring them home, pop a movie in the VCR and flop down on the couch to engorge ourselves. We stuck with that without fail. Sigh. The two kids were raised on this ritual. Then, El T fell out of favor. The sweet ladies who were the masterminds sold out to a guy whose only knowledge of running a Mexican restaurant was taking out the trash. Everything was extremely awful. So for a decade now, I have boycotted. I went through withdrawals. About a year ago, a new sign went up. Same name. Fresh look. Cars started filling the tiny parking lot. Give it some time. We'll see. Today, I'd had enough. I needed a good relleno. I needed a great crispy, beef tacos. I raced over there and ordered for one (not four) just for a test. Sweet Jesus. As good or better than ever! New faces behind the counter, but happy food was coming out of that tiny kitchen. Tonight....Great, lard re-fried beans, moist flavorful rice, the relleno full of cheese, a yummy batter and picante sauce. The tacos were just as they should be, full of good stuff in a freshly crispy fried tortilla. I am so glad to have given them another chance. Sigh. Traditions. Aren't they great? We usually place over $100 dollar orders as we work at a local hospital. Today we were told our department order was cancelled. Obviously they cancelled the wrong order but it was the response that was the worst part. A young kid immediately told me it wasn't their fault and that it was mine? When I told him that we always ordered from them and that we wouldn't have cancelled the order he again told me "that's your fault!". When I told him we wouldn't be ordering from them again again he angrily said, "we don't care!". It was pretty funny considering they obviously cancelled the wrong order and food was just going to sit there all day. Shitty kids with no social skills or the ability to accept responsibility like this can ruin a business. read more

This place has some of the best taco's around! The staff is friendly yet professional. They have good deals on the taco's, on Mondays they are about $1.25 each and Tuesday is Taco Tuesday with specials on the Taco's too. They have a very large menu to choose from besides the tacos. read more

I read the reviews about the poor service, but I figured that if people were still coming, then perhaps the food was worth it. Let me tell you, the food is NOT worth it, and the service is even worse than I imagined. We called in our order, but after half an hour, it still wasn't ready. When asked about the hold up, the front counter guy was incredibly rude, saying, "If we start your food, you have to pay." Was his plan to reach into my pocket and take my money if the cook threw a couple of tortillas on the grill? Speaking of the cook, she just stood there giving us dirty looks. The vibe was very bad. An apology from them would have gone a long way, but they seemed incapable of admitting they had communicated poorly or mismanaged their time. Clearly, they don't value good customer service here, which to me, is inexcusable, not to mention stupid considering there are so many other Mexican food joints to choose from. In a nut shell, the food at El Torero is mediocre, and the servers seem like toxic, unhappy people who don't know how to do their jobs. What a waste of money and time. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for a snack, and we were pleasantly surprised. Tacos here are amazing! We had: Carnitas Taco - This was a WOW! It's been awhile that I've had such a wonderful and flavorful crispy pork taco. YOU HAVE TO ORDER THIS. Carne Asada Taco - Pretty good for a carne asada taco. It almost was as good as the carnitas. We asked for a side of guacamole, which he gave to us for free. One salsa size cup was plenty for two tacos. It was smooth type of guac, not chunky, but it was a medium-thick consistency. The cost for our tacos were $2. I think the chicken and some others were cheaper. They have a special on Tuesday, $5 for 3 tacos, and I'll be coming back to try more on Tuesday. read more
