Overall El Torero is just ok. It is definitely better than Americanized food like Taco Bell, but not as good as other Taco stands and stores in SoCal. Their lot is very small, but there is some street parking. The man who took my order was very nice. The customers were a mixed bag. There were some guys who appeared to be hardworking blue collar workers of some type who were quiet and just enjoying their lunch. There were also some women who looked like white collar office workers and they were super loud and rude. There were also some older people who came in for take out. Overall, it was a bit noisy. The shredded chicken taco was a pretty standard hard taco. The shell was crispy after a long drive home on top but of course soggy on the bottom. The chicken was good quality and decent flavor. The taquitos were just ok. The ones made elsewhere, especially at most places in San Diego, are much better. Some places in the San Gabriel valley also make these a different style but better. However, the guac & sour cream at El Torero to go with the taquitos are far superior to San Gabriel and comparable to San Diego. If you want tacos, burritos, and other such type food and don't want the Americanized stuff, this is a good place to try if in the area. I loved this little hole-in-the-wall spot! My new favorite for sure. We ordered a Jr Classic asada burrito (which was small but then I was able to eat some of my husband's nachos too). So good! The meat was flavorful and the chips were fresh. Both the burrito and nachos filled us up. The nachos come with the wet ingredients on the side so they don't get soggy. Those little attentions to details I love. Their salsa on the side has some kick but delicious. Complemented the burrito and nachos. I was so hungry I didn't get food pics. Oops! It's a small little place, i think the kitchen is bigger than the eating area but what it lacks in size it packs in flavors and authenticity. My daughter and I wanted to try a new place and we're glad we did because it's become one of our favorite spots for Mexican food. I've been coming to El Torero for at least 30+ years. This is my go to spot for Crispy Hard Tacos and I'm never disappointed. I've left several raving Yelp reviews in the past and I see they're no longer there. I've seen this place different owners throughout the years. Some good and some not so good. One thing that hasn't change though is their delicious hot sauce. My visit yesterday I ordered 2 Shredded Beef Hard Shell Tacos with Rice/Beans ($12.95) The Refried Beans didn't taste the same like I've had here over the years. Maybe they no longer use Lard.... They still make their own Tortilla Chips which I like with that delicious Hot Sauce. There's inside and outside seating and the tables always look cleaned. My review is based off of my delivery order: I ordered the pozole small, two tacos plate with all beans, and four taquitos plate plus a Lime jarritos. First off I woke up craving pozole, which is really the only thing that I actually wanted. (Out of stock but still completed the order) Under the tacos plate they show the fried ones with various meat cheese lettuce tomato. I guess it was a bit naive to think they'd fry up some carne asada but those crunchy tacos with the pozole is what I craved. Instead got two street tacos. Thinking I'd be able to get my Lime Jarritos to wash it down.... instead I was given tamarind, I don't even like tamarind. Now that that's over with, understand the order will go through despite canceled MAIN items and they will switch out drinks for what they see fit, I mean they could have atleast canceled the drink too cause the flavor was out of stock. I'm always on the hunt for a good hard shell ground beef taco. And this one here is among some of the best I've had. Nice and crispy. The beef felt nice and full. Flavor profiles seasoned well. Cold sliced cheese. Diced tomatoes, and cold lettuce. Great crispy hard shell. I ordered the 3 for 7.99 deal. The other thing missing for me was sour cream. I will be sure to add that next time. I'll start with the menudo. Unfortunately, it was really bad. The meat was extremely chewy, hard to eat, and didn't seem fully cooked. That was very disappointing. Also the tortillas Instead of being warmed on a griddle, the tortillas were clearly microwaved. They were warm, but they tasted stale. Heating tortillas properly doesn't take much effort, so this was disappointing. The junior burrito was another letdown I understand it's a "junior" size, so I wasn't expecting a full burrito, but this was more like a taco. I even uploaded a picture you be the judge. We've been doing business here for 28 years & love the food! Unfortunately this will be the last time. All because of a simple mistake and rude employee. My wife placed our usual order of hard shelled chicken tacos with extra cheese. I picked up the order after practice, got home took a shower and settled down to eat. Chips are fresh and crunchy, the guacamole is INSANEEELY delicious the best ever- creamy and just a teeny kick of spice! For 7$ you get a huge boatload of chips and guac -i giggled cuz I couldn't believe how much you get for that price! Food came out fast too, and was cooked fresh to order. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito and could only eat half of it because of how loaded and thick it was! Walked through the door and it was like a whole different place. Well maintained tables that didn't wobble. No rips in the chairs. Beverage cooler filled with an assortment of drinks. They came up as $3 each, which is a little pricey. The man who took my order was really friendly and the service was quick. It's a small place but they do have interior seating. The tacos were hot and fresh and loaded up with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and cheese! They came with sides of red salsa, which was delicious. The guacamole isn't true guacamole like you might expect; it's a thinner pourable style. It is creamy and seems like it probably has dairy in it (I'm not positive though). All in all I really liked my food and told my coworkers about this place! My only gripes right now: they open at 9am, but they serve breakfast, so I'm sitting here writing this review at almost 8:30am and hungry for a breakfast burrito but have to wait.
