The notary by my house closed and I found this service on maps. The service was convenient, friendly and accommodating. Would recommend.

I needed a good lawyer for my contentious divorce and Stephen was my number one pick based off reviews and after our consult, I knew I wanted him on my side. I liked how he was straight to the point but also offered compassion and words of encouragement when things got tough. He even told me how I should compile discovery to make it less work for him and ultimately less expensive and I really appreciated that. His billing was extremely fair for his level of work and he didn't nickel and dime everything. He also took us down the path of least resistance and most cost effective. I never had to initiate anything or reach out asking for updates because he was always on the ball and has lightening fast response times. He did everything he could to keep me out of court and he not only did that but we settled on a number that was below my max. I'm forever grateful to Stephen for guiding me through these rough 9 months and leaving me in a good spot for the next chapter of my life. If you find yourself needing a family lawyer, please do yourself a favor and meet with Stephen first. I cant recommend him enough.

My experience with Emily Rubenstein was life changing. I am a single mother with three daughters…read moreone of whom has life-threatening medical issues. I had lived separated from my husband for 10 years with very little money when I finally got the courage to start my divorce. I began with a different lawyer who was reputed to be kind of a pit bull but very good and expensive. Unfortunately she (my first lawyer, NOT Emily) was also terrible to me, unorganized, unethical in her billing, wouldn't respond to my ex's settlement offer, and was slapdash in her approach to my case, not telling me I needed to respond to discovery until I only had a week left to do so. I contacted Emily in despair. She took the reins immediately starting with handling the turnover from the old lawyer, handling problems with my ex, and got everything organized and back under control. She kept me informed and calm. She was gentle and compassionate but also realistic and honest with me to properly set my expectations. She listened to and incorporated my thoughts and suggestions where they would work in our favor. Her research and writing were top notch. The mediation brief she wrote was a work of art - so persuasive, incorporating solid research and bolstered by specific and complete evidence. In the end she was able to more than double what I was getting in child support and getting my ex to pay for my medically fragile child's insurance until 26. Also she was extremely judicious, fair and reasonable in her billing. I always felt I had gotten great value for the cost. If you want a smart, effective, compassionate attorney on your side during your divorce, or any other family law matter, I highly recommend that you hire Emily Rubenstein.

My previous attorney, Krystal, was leaving the practice so they handed me off to another new attorney who neither knew me nor my case. I was charged over $16,000 for her to "get caught up" and attend one court date with me. I was advised to say nothing and let her do all the talking. She literally said the worst thing she could have for my case and I had to sit there, listen and say nothing. When I called her out afterwards, she assured me that it was part of her "strategy." Seems like an odd strategy to hurt my case in court. I had to fire them before it cost me another cent. I should have been refunded 100% as this practice went from being one in which I felt safe and protected to one that was happy to accept my money without regard to my needs. I would not recommend them again.

She was very compassionate, straight with us, and really took the time to explain things in a way we could understand. What I respected the most is that she was honest. We were in a vulnerable spot and ready to hire her right then, but she told us the truth -- because of our kid's age and the way things were, there wasn't much she could do that would actually help. She also had a lot of insight and experience with the judge on our case. She explained how that judge tends to look at situations like ours and how they would probably rule. Because of that, she chose not to take the case, knowing the outcome wouldn't change much. I really respected her for being upfront about that instead of just taking our money. We followed her advice, and things ended up working out better than we expected. That alone showed me she genuinely cares about doing what's right. I'd definitely recommend her to anyone who needs guidance with family or custody issues.

[UPDATE: RESPONSE TO THE OWNER'S REPLY]…read more The owner's response is contradicted by the written record: 1. The Privacy Lie: The owner claims they "never require clients to disclose private medical records." Read Clause 13a below. They literally drafted a binding court order forcing me to disclose my psychiatric treatment and any doctor changes directly to my ex-husband. 2. The "Therapist" Misdirection: Peace Talks' website advertises a "team approach" with a therapist to ensure a "neutral environment" and help "process your emotions." I relied on this to navigate a high-conflict, argumentative situation. Yet, when I made suicidal comments during mediation and disclosed spousal abuse, the therapist offered no support and failed to maintain neutrality. Peace Talks now defends this by claiming the role is "not clinical." It is a deceptive business practice to use the "Therapist" title to sell clients a false sense of emotional safety, only to dodge all professional accountability when those promised protections completely fail. 3. The "Independent Counsel" Excuse: Claiming clients should "seek outside counsel" is just how they excuse charging premium rates while forcing you to sign as "Self-Represented" to escape their own malpractice liability. Do not fall for their polite PR spin. The legal documents they drafted speak for themselves. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I hired Peace Talks Mediation Services believing their 'Team Mediation' approach would be safer than litigation. Instead, it was a systemic failure that stripped me of legal protections. Potential clients should be aware of the specific individuals and dangerous clauses involved in this process: - The 'Medical' Mandate: The drafting team, including Attorney Mediator Barbara Tyson, included a clause in my divorce judgment (Clause 13a) that mandated I take psychiatric medication and waived my HIPAA rights. The text of Clause 13a stated: "Elizabeth stipulates and agrees to continue treatment with a medical professional on a schedule and with medication as recommended by said medical professional. In the event Elizabeth ceases psychiatric treatment, she shall notify [Ex-husband] in writing of same." This violation of my privacy and civil liberties was approved by Ms. Tyson and the firm without proper legal oversight. - The 'Ghostwriting' Clause: Although I paid premium rates for legal drafting, their retainer (Page 5, Section 11) required me to file my judgment as 'Petitioner in Pro Per' (Self-Represented). This shielded the firm from liability for the defective orders they wrote, while leaving me with a judgment that failed to protect my assets. When I filed a complaint, the State Bar confirmed exactly how this liability loophole works. In their dismissal letter regarding Ms. Tyson, they stated: "You do not have a contract with Ms. Tyson... You contracted with Peace Talks, a mediation firm, not a law firm." This is the trap. You believe you are hiring a team of attorneys to protect you. In reality, the State Bar views them as a generic "firm," and because you sign as "Self-Represented," the individual lawyers have no direct contractual duty to you. You are paying for a lawyer's rates but getting none of a lawyer's accountability.

After doing some research after the ex agreed to divorce mediation instead of pay ridiculous lawyer…read morefees I came across Peace Talks which seemed to have good reviews. After I spoke to Stephanie Maloney she seemed experienced and competent. Boy was I wrong! Her firm and staff are the most incompetent bunch. I figured out the business model, conduct endless amount of mediation at the tune of $650/hour and never settle anything. Stephanie, her divorce attorney and psychologist are only there to keep billing you with mediation meeting that accomplish nothing except setting up more meetings. I wasted over $6,500 before I fired them. The assistant, Julia Shaw disclosed my financial disclosure to my ex before the ex completed hers. How stupid is that? I would have expected that the financial disclosure would be disclosed to each party at the same time. Run for the hills when considering Peace Talks. They run a scam and you are better off spending your money on a good divorce attorney.
