My wife and I have been eating at El Rodeo now for the past year or so. We've been there for our five times over that time period. The food has been consistently hot and fresh, of good quality overall and tasty! My wife's go to meal has been the Tacos al Carbon, which she really enjoys. The portion size has always been adequate. I've had the El Combo Plate, the El Lopez, a mixed Enchilada Plate, and Birria Tacos. I've also enjoyed everything I've eaten at El Rodeo. Recently, we opted to return to our previous go to Tex Mex restaurant (El Fenix), because of the price increases at El Rodeo. Probably the biggest advantage El Rodeo has over El Fenix is menus choices. El Rodeo's menu is more extensive. However, El Fenix has a full bar and better atmosphere. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Whereas, El Rodeo does have somewhat of hole in the wall ambiance, with much simpler furnishings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As far as overall food quality, my wife and I both agree that El Fenix has the edge over El Rodeo. Interestingly, both restaurants have almost the exact same salsa recipe. Both taste fresh, but both are also fairly watery, which, for me, is a fail. I prefer a salsa with I guess more of a tomato base. I mean, I still eat the salsa at El Rodeo, but it's definitely not the star of the meal! The chips at El Rodeo are better than those at El Fenix. (I did not intend for this to be a comparison to El Fenix, it just worked out that way, because I'm a little delayed on submitting this updated review on El Rodeo.) I do very much appreciate the large drink mugs at El Rodeo. I've would have to literally chug one's drink throughout the meal to even need a single refill. The mugs are HUGE! So, we'll be back to El Rodeo despite the pricing increases, but probably not as frequently as we would like. Times are tough and value shopping, even for dine out spots, is paramount! We have been going here for at least 8 years now. My granddaughter practically grew up at El Rodeo. Her very first taste of Mexican food was here. She knows the mane of every employee. Needless to say they are amazing, the food and the people. read more

Great Mexican food with nice large potions at a reasonable price! I ordered the beef fajitas - nice and crispy on the outside and the meat was tender and easy to bite into. I gave had other fajitas that were too tough and chewy but this was not the case here. Will come back when I'm in the area! read more

It's tough for me to review only because I feel like I've discovered this hole in the wall in a strip center and I want it all to myself. When I go to a New Mexican restaurant I like to try the cheese enchiladas since that is my favorite. You might think you can't mess up cheese enchiladas but plenty do. I had an enchiladas plate with a bean chalupa with rice and beans. As I write this I'm thinking about going back for lunch today. The enchiladas is a good as it gets and everything on the plate was excellent including the salsa. Their chips are a little thick for my liking but they work fine. The service was good too. They came back a few times to check on me. I found out that this family had three restaurants and I've ate at all of them. LaFlor in Murphy TX is a brother to El Rodeo and La Joya in Wylie is a cousin. All have good food but La Joya customer service is horrible. I have a review on them if you want to read it. Nice little place. Some friends met us there for dinner, they have been coming here for years. It was our premera vez. I ordered the carne asada tacos with beans and rice and are really good. Boss lady had the Chile relleños, which she said were the best she's had. The chips were just fine, but the salsa was spicy and delicious. We'll be coming back for mas! read more

This place is truly a hidden gem! We dropped in Saturday afternoon after my grandson's basketball game without knowing anything about the place and it was amazing! All eight of us were pleased with the food and the service. Prices were very reasonable and huge servings. We all took food home! We recommend this place highly if you want a wide variety of Tex-mex choices, something for everyone. We will try to get back even though it is quite a distance from where we live, could be worth the drive. You should go! read more

Delicious ... I ordered the "Ground Beef Taco Salad w an order of Charro Beans". Nice fresh tomatoey salsa too... The taco salad was very good and a very nice large portion, but I got all distracted when I tried the Charro beans. The Charro Beans were truly the BEST beans I have had anywhere in Texas. You can see a little bit of bacon in the beans, but there's more to the delicious depth of savory flavor in the beans other than bacon. They have lots to choose from so I will try to try a new dish next time but I will be back for the beans sooner. read more

They had to up their price along with inflation, but I still think it's worth it. You come here for their amazing salsa and you stay for the yummy drinks and amazing burritos or enchiladas. My sister is a regular here and we ordered for pickup when I was visiting from out of town.
