Nothing's worse than getting sick on vacation. I slept all afternoon and skipped out on dinner reservations - and decided I want soup.
The 4 or so restaurants nearby close at 9pm but Google Map said this one is open 'til 9:30, so I took a gamble. Walked out of the hotel and 2 mins later, I was here! Got a take-out order of the pozole (soup w/ a bunch of things mixed in).
The dishes on the menu are typical of the nearby restaurants (chalupas, mole poblano, Chile en Nogada, cecina, arrachera, tampiquena). Slightly slightly pricier (by something like $2/dish) but this place is more "established" (read: clean) with way better seating and lighting. And of course - any food is better available than not :)
As for the food, I got the made-to-order pozole (70 pesos and their spelling, not mine) and house-made flan (40 pesos).
This is the best pozole I have ever had. It's a hearty soup with crushed corn and meat choices. There's something about the ground pepper and ground chipotle they use - the pepper has a greenness to it that I can't describe - it's amazing. They also serve it with chopped radish and onion and chunks of lime to taste (I asked for no cilantro). It couldn't have been more perfect a dinner choice for me, sick or not sick. I got take out so I don't have a picture for this but I would go back for this soup alone.
Really nice staff and awesome food in clean, bright restaurant! They only accept domestic (Mexican) cards though so make sure to bring cash if you don't have one of those :) Enjoy! read more
