This restaurant was by far my favorite in Puebla, and the Enchiladas Tres Moles completely stole the show. Each mole had its own distinct character--mole poblano with its deep, rich, and slightly sweet notes from the chocolate and dried chiles, pipian verde bringing a fresh, nutty complexity with the pumpkin seeds, and pipian rojo offering a bold, peanut-infused depth. Every bite was a journey through the region's culinary traditions, and the balance of flavors was nothing short of exceptional. I also tried the chalupas poblanas--something I had been wanting to experience. While they were flavorful, with their crisp-yet-soft tortillas and salsa-coated goodness, they didn't quite reach the level of the enchiladas. Next time, I'd go all in on those enchiladas again. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is stunning--elegant, cultured, and beautifully decorated, making the entire dining experience feel special. A must-visit in Puebla. By the way, service was top tier, and I have to come back when the chiles en nogada are in season.

What a gem 1 block from Puebla cathedral, good food and good service, good value and lovely place.

We were a large group so service was a bit slow. But to be expected especially when some translation was needed. They also had a short supply of English Menus. My Mojito was delicious. My Salad was all very big and filling. I'd wished I hadn't ordered an entire. My entree was fish. I asked for it to be served without Adobo Sauce. They said it was premixed. Gotta say it was very bad. The fish was in a parchment bag swimming in Adobo. I took a few bites a just left it. Husband liked his chicken dish. So far our most expensive meal in Mexico.

What an amazing experience it was to dine at El Mural de los Poblanos. We stayed a day and a half in Puebla (regrettably, but we will definitely be back soon!) We found this location fairly close to the Zocalo. It was possibly a 11 minute walk or so. If you're in town and you're looking for an upscale dining experience...add this to your list. We came in during breakfast time. It's a beautiful restaurant. Beautiful art & the plates add an authentic touch. We had the tres moles enchiladas. My boyfriend and I were going to share the dish since we weren't too hungry but wanted to get our MOLE fill in. We love mole! They have a Traditional mole poblano, pipian Rojo, & pipian verde. We also got a dish off the dinner menu which were semitas. When we were planning on ordering them, they told us it was a dinner item. Which is completely understandable but a minute later our amazing waiter came by to ask if we still wanted them he could ask the kitchen to make them for us. And luckily, they made them for us! Thank you to our waiter for the excellent service.

Excellent poblana food! Great service and ambience. We ordered cemita sampler, verdolaga salad and albóndigas. Waitresses are amazing and kind. Mexican wine was great! As a digestive, we had a Yolixpo (some type of alcohol infused with 13 herbs) and it was exquisite! This place is where the first chile en nogada was made. The murals are awesome and the ambience in general is casual but with fine dining service. This is a must if you're visiting Puebla.

It's a 5 compared to all the other food we had in Puebla. Maybe not the worlds best but we found food in Puebla to fall a little short and overall this was the nicest dinner we had. Expected a little more craftsmanship from the mezcal cocktails, but we all ordered mole enchiladas and enjoyed them. Nice little quartyard seating too. Service time was so so, but all employees were very nice. The real gem is their giftshop- we spent a lot of time at the end of our trip buying mole to go (the sell it frozen), clay shot glasses and dishes, plus some speciality liqueurs. They even sell their pretty hand painted recycled glass cups that are served in the restaurant. Overall a nice place, I'd return if I visited Puebla again

On our first night here in Puebla, my husband and I came to eat here based on my cousin's recommendation. It was a good suggestion and I did enjoy the food, but was a tad bit disappointed with our waiter who seemed to be having a bit of an off night. I tried to be pleasant with him, but he seemed a bit too serious and not too friendly. He did bring us our drinks but I had to ask him for our silverware and had to remind him of a few things. We first ordered "Quesadillas de flor de Calabaza" which is Quesadillas made with squash flower, which is a special quesadilla I've been craving for once I returned to Mexico. My mom used to make it when I was a kid, so I was looking forward to get in here, and of course only here in Mexico. I wanted so badly for my husband to try it and get the experience. Anyhow, I misread the menu and believe it was supposed to have four pieces, so when I asked the waiter he didn't seem to take my question so nicely, oh vey! My husband ordered for his main coarse the ribs with salsa pasilla, which he enjoyed and I liked it as well, of course I tried it! The ribs were falling off the bone tender. Eat your heart out Kansas City! Anyhow, I had the traditional mole poblano, with the chicken which it typically comes with, although they did provide your choice of meat. I did enjoy the mole, but have to admit that a few days later after eating mole here, I had tried homemade mole from an old lady whose family had invited us to mourn along with her family during "Day of the Dead," and we had the chance to experience a tradition that goes back to Nahuatl/Mexica heritage with the alter and inviting strangers to eat along with family members who are mourning their deceased loved ones. It will be a memory my husband and I will treasure for a long time. I unfortunately loved her mole a lot more than this restaurant style mole; however, this place was a close second. If I ever come back, I may try the albondegas (Mexican meatballs) which I recall my mom making, but she never taught me how to make these, and I miss them. Overall, the place was a nice place to eat, but wished that the waiter had been in better spirits that day.

We had a very nice dinner here with friends. The restaurant is very nice and decorated with plants throughout and murals on the wall. Our friends told us they are known for their poblano dishes. We started with chalupas poblano appetizer that was good with the various salsas. I got the pork with poblano mole and my wife a thinly cut steak. I am not a big fan of mole but it was ok. The pork was good. My wife's steak could have used something to with it such as chimichurri. The service was good and the waiters attentive.

    Salpicón de Res salad. Delicious!

I had the Salpicón de Res salad, and it was absolutely delicious. I would definitely get it again. My husband had the Chile Ancho Relleno de Queso and really enjoyed it. Next time he plans to try Escamoles, ant eggs, which are currently in season. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was outstanding. We explored the menu in Spanish first, but with so many details and so much variety, we appreciated our server's offer of an English menu. Really pleasant atmosphere in a beautiful old building with balconies overlooking the street. Vibrant rooms with colorful murals. We dressed up a bit but many people were comfortably in the casual clothing they'd worn to enjoy Semana Santa festivities.

The most authentic and amazing food. I'm born and raised in Puebla and I can tell you without any doubts that if you want typical comida poblana this is the place. Their moles are fabulous, the margaritas are a must and the ambiance is divine. Highly recommend as a must if visiting puebla

Arrived at 6:15pm and sadly, much like most restaurants in Puebla these days, the beautiful dinning rooms were without patrons. Do not take this as a sign of a problem with the restaurants; it is a sign of the Mexican economy, fear of travel to Mexico and results of the current US President's actions. In any event, there are two dinning rooms, the first one is less formal and only had tables for 5 or more, but has a beautiful carved wood alter and is inviting. We chose to go ahead and sit at large table in the informal dinners area. Wait staff was attentive and while I was attempting to improve my Spanish, I did ask for an English menu and the had them. Also the staff were happy to explain ingredients we had not heard of such as an edible semi-succulent leaf that accompanied 2 of my 3 dishes. The meal started with an amuse-bouche of the day, which was like tiny empanada. We requested margaritas mas fuerte and were happy we did. The next dish we both order was the both beautiful and tasty Tayuda Itsmeña. This dish is substantial enough to constitute a whole meal! My second dish was the salmon tartar which was delicious and equally beautiful. The salmon flavor was a bit overpowered, but I loved the sweet flavors of the mango sauce and passion fruit intertwined with the raw red onions and cabbage strips. For mains I had the chicken breast and my friends dined on the filet fillet mignon both dishes had HUITLACOCHE as an ingredient and both were delicious! The deserts were very interesting. My dinner companion enjoyed a sponge cake made with special leaves that was presented with crystalized parsley and arranged to look like trees in a terrarium. As for price, this is the most expensive restaurant I have been to in my week of dining in Puebla, however my (1person) total bill for 3 courses, a margarita and a still-water was $26.50 which is less than a main course alone in a less nice restaurant in California. If you want a fine dinner or are a foodie this is your place.

Puebla is rumored to be the birthplace of mole. Supposedly a group of nuns was unable to exit their convent for a lengthy period, and took to steeping chicken in chocolate and spices, creating the slow-cooked chicken mole recipe. In reality, almost every Mexican grandmother makes their mole differently, with no standardized recipe. In what turned out to be a silly decision, we rented a Hertz and drove to Puebla from Mexico City. There's a modern tollway for the majority of the way, but surface traffic slows to a nightmarish crawl in Mexico City and in Puebla itself. The Hertz rental desk person gave us an unintentionally funny instruction on what to do in a possible shakedown by police on the way (each rental car is clearly marked as a rental in Mexico). Restauro (which means "restore" in Spanish) references both the restoration of the historic building for the restaurant, and the restorative qualities of great food. This place excels in both. The setting is beautiful. It's essentially a very modern space located in a very old stone building. Mood lighting and dramatic design effects are everywhere. They also have some striking modern art in the space. The real star of the show is the food. The aforementioned chicken mole was off-the-charts fantastic. Those nuns of days gone by would be very proud tasting it. There are some interesting twists on traditional Mexican cooking, including a variety of salads and "nouvelle" preparations. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the service was polite and fast. The waitstaff was both very funny and very efficient. If this restaurant was in my city, I would definitely be a regular.
