This place was pretty good. My chicken w mole came after everyone else had eaten and to be honest the chicken was still very tough so it wasn't the worlds best. Mole was less sweet than other places which is not my preference but it wasn't bad. The sopa de fideo was delicious and we liked the chicharron appetizer. Chile en nogada was way too sweet though, tasted like a dessert or a pineapple tamale. Wished it had more meat but we could barely find any. Table bread rolls were inedible but maybe we're for decoration? Overall a nice place, would visit again just for a soup and some appetizers though.

Typical Pueblan food- we got some rice, pueblan mole chicken, flautas and a narajada and jarritos. The chips and bread were great as well. Very typical small traditional restaurant where you can experience authentic food- not too out of the ordinary dishes which was nice for us after seeing chapulines and cactus in alot of dishes in other cities.

This place was full of hospitality, The rice and mole was out of this world!! Very fresh and the chicken was so tender and juicy. Gentleman - Martin went far and beyond in answering all of our questions with so much patience. We had just got pulled over because we accidentally passed a red light and they took our plate for warranty of payment. We brought it up in a conversation we had with the Martin (I believe he was the manager) He kindly asked for our ticket and walked over to the police station himself to check if our plate was available for pick up; he took his own time to walk and give us that information!! I was beyond shocked and grateful. Also, my grandma is 93 years old, taking medicine and asked if he had beer with no alcohol he replied that they didn't but he said it wasn't a problem, he will get us one for my grandma.. Honestly, we were surrounded by angels in Puebla. This place is so genuine and kind. We will definitely go back to his restaurant!

I didn't have time to eat anything before my flight, so I was super hungry when we finally landed in Puebla. Since this place was recommended by several taxi drivers, this was our first stop after checking in our hotel. We shared the chile relleno and mole. While waiting for our food, we were offered complimentary bread and chips with spicy green salsa. The chile relleno had 25 ingredients and had a lot of different flavors and textures! It was beautifully presented and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. Some parts of it seemed old and the other parts were pretty good and interesting....I'm not a fan of mole, but was willing to give this dish another try- still don't like it lol. Service was okay and they have some colorful decor on the ceiling towards the front of the restaurant and other interesting things hanging on the walls.

Well worth the trip. Another solo venture for me, while at work in Mexico. I came here based on fellow yelper reviews. I dined at the original location, where it all started. There is a bigger and more attractive branch not too far, also in the center of town, but it was closed on this Sunday evening. The place is pleasant and authentic, with the typical Puebla style tiles and decorations. Because of my low carb eating style, I chose a "botana" grafted out of chicharron, cheese, onions and avocado. It comes with chile pasilla. A curious combo. I expected, salty, sour, other predictable flavors of lesser Mexican establishments, etc. This was a great surprise. I know that the following makes no sense at all, but I felt like I was eating something akin to the goat cheese and beet salad that most French restaurants offer. Maybe because it was served at a very pleasant chilled Temperature and none of the ingredients dominated the palate. Even the beautiful red chile was somewhat neutral, as far chiles go. Or maybe, the frozen margarita with "tradicional" was softening me a little bit. But this dish felt fresh and clean. Next, I was hell bent on trying some good steak or meat with mole, but the very nice waiter insisted on offering the special "chile nogada" traditional dish, since it is in season. The truth is that I had never tried this before, and now I cannot believe I went all these years without it. This was orgasmic. So beautiful to look at, I had a feel of guilt piercing it with my fork, so I started around the edges. A fresh pepper, covered in white sauce, like mole, you can perceive very subtle hints of cardamon and other spices, but just slightly, like hearing a mocking bird in the distance, far away, yet acknowledging his song's sweetnes. And sweetness dominates here. It's like having a delicious dessert as a main course and I mean it in the best possible account. The filling is a stew like combo of meat, raisins and maybe pumpkin? Do you know that feeling when you come home from a Mexican restaurant and your mouth feels acidic, garlicky and hot? You feel like diarrhea is knocking, etc. I came home, happy and rejoicing. I woke up and my mouth feels clean and uneventful. All two dishes and a margarita for $30. I'll be back! Thanks for reading.

One of the reasons why I visited Puebla, was due to the amount of various fantastic foods and flavors. This is one of the top places for foodies worldwide! Coming with this mindset, I was soon to be disappointed. While the service was great and courteous, the food was mediocre. To be honest, I've have had better mole in the States (Puerto Rico, Miami, Nu Yoik, and L.A.) The mole was too sweet, I am aware of some of the condiments that it contains. Due to this, I have tried authentic mole Poblano (in Puebla) it is expected to be just a tiny bit sweet with spiciness in between with an explosion on flavors! As far as flavor goes this mole was just sweet, plain and nothing else. The chicken was just covered in mole without being cooked in the mole. I was very disappointed and having asked why it tasted this way I was expecting an answer along that lines of; "this is the way it is supposed to taste", but our waitress was honest and said that the restaurant was trying to accommodate and adapt to the taste of tourist. This immensely disappointed me and we decided to move along. Unfortunately I will not be coming back whenever Puebla is in sight.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I wish I was back there ALL the time. While yes, it is a super touristy spot, it is absolutely what a tourist wants: beauty everywhere you turn (even the bathrooms LOL), authentic decor, DELICIOUS food, amazing music and extraordinary customer service. While everything was super appealing to all the senses, I was taking pictures of everything like crazy woman and the manager saw me completely enchanted by the decor and took me to take pictures throughout the restaurant and I even got to meet the chefs. At several points he even suggested places to take pictures and took my phone and took pictures of us!! So thoughtful and sweet. I've never experienced such good customer service. Usually when I take pictures inside a resto I get "stupid millennial" looks but he was so awesome and embraced my intentions and even took it to another level. Just great. I can talk about how amazing the food was forever but there's no point... just look at my pictures and drool all over yourself. While the the possibility of better food in Puebla may exist, the experience and ambiance my family and I had here was one we will remember forever. At the end of our time there the manager even walked us to a Talavera shop where we saw a small clip of its history and even artists working on some before our eyes. This manager was unbelievably committed to making our time in Puebla exceptional and I am forever thankful to this man and restaurant.

the food is excellent, the place is small but cozy, and the service above expectations. prices are very reasonable.

Arrived at 6:15pm and sadly, much like most restaurants in Puebla these days, the beautiful dinning rooms were without patrons. Do not take this as a sign of a problem with the restaurants; it is a sign of the Mexican economy, fear of travel to Mexico and results of the current US President's actions. In any event, there are two dinning rooms, the first one is less formal and only had tables for 5 or more, but has a beautiful carved wood alter and is inviting. We chose to go ahead and sit at large table in the informal dinners area. Wait staff was attentive and while I was attempting to improve my Spanish, I did ask for an English menu and the had them. Also the staff were happy to explain ingredients we had not heard of such as an edible semi-succulent leaf that accompanied 2 of my 3 dishes. The meal started with an amuse-bouche of the day, which was like tiny empanada. We requested margaritas mas fuerte and were happy we did. The next dish we both order was the both beautiful and tasty Tayuda Itsmeña. This dish is substantial enough to constitute a whole meal! My second dish was the salmon tartar which was delicious and equally beautiful. The salmon flavor was a bit overpowered, but I loved the sweet flavors of the mango sauce and passion fruit intertwined with the raw red onions and cabbage strips. For mains I had the chicken breast and my friends dined on the filet fillet mignon both dishes had HUITLACOCHE as an ingredient and both were delicious! The deserts were very interesting. My dinner companion enjoyed a sponge cake made with special leaves that was presented with crystalized parsley and arranged to look like trees in a terrarium. As for price, this is the most expensive restaurant I have been to in my week of dining in Puebla, however my (1person) total bill for 3 courses, a margarita and a still-water was $26.50 which is less than a main course alone in a less nice restaurant in California. If you want a fine dinner or are a foodie this is your place.

I'm hesitant to return to eat, simply because of the low amount of people there and it took quite some time for the food to arrive to our table. I would go for the décor and setting. Perfect venue for an intimate dinner or date.

Puebla is rumored to be the birthplace of mole. Supposedly a group of nuns was unable to exit their convent for a lengthy period, and took to steeping chicken in chocolate and spices, creating the slow-cooked chicken mole recipe. In reality, almost every Mexican grandmother makes their mole differently, with no standardized recipe. In what turned out to be a silly decision, we rented a Hertz and drove to Puebla from Mexico City. There's a modern tollway for the majority of the way, but surface traffic slows to a nightmarish crawl in Mexico City and in Puebla itself. The Hertz rental desk person gave us an unintentionally funny instruction on what to do in a possible shakedown by police on the way (each rental car is clearly marked as a rental in Mexico). Restauro (which means "restore" in Spanish) references both the restoration of the historic building for the restaurant, and the restorative qualities of great food. This place excels in both. The setting is beautiful. It's essentially a very modern space located in a very old stone building. Mood lighting and dramatic design effects are everywhere. They also have some striking modern art in the space. The real star of the show is the food. The aforementioned chicken mole was off-the-charts fantastic. Those nuns of days gone by would be very proud tasting it. There are some interesting twists on traditional Mexican cooking, including a variety of salads and "nouvelle" preparations. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the service was polite and fast. The waitstaff was both very funny and very efficient. If this restaurant was in my city, I would definitely be a regular.
