When my Yelp Friend Albert asked me for a recommendation for a custom framer, I went to my rolodex…read moreof business cards (yes, I still maintain a rolodex, some of you might wonder what that is...) and found the card for the framer I had used, and passed on that information. Albert gave me a heads up that there was no Yelp review for this business. I felt some guilt, as I had an exceedingly positive experience with the framing I had done a few years ago, at which time I wasn't into yelping. So, here is my amends with a long overdue review.
I was referred to this framer by a friend who had purchased a lot of art from an annual Boca Raton Art Festival, someone who was a collector, as I had been for more than 40 years. I walked in, met with the owner, Jose Franco, shared who had referred me, and he recalled the work he had recently framed.
Jose is a seasoned framer, with more than 30 years experience, and this is small, family owned and operated business. There is art for sale, lots of it, but I did not focus on any of those pieces, as I was only interested in having framing done.
I had recently returned from Argentina, where I visited a vineyard in Mendoza. There was an art gallery associated with the vineyard, and there was several pieces which were calling out to me. Not only did I find the subject matter of interest - Tango dancers - but the medium used was unique. They were watercolors, made with the pigment from wines from the Zuccardi Family Winery, sirrah, malbec, tempranillo, and others. Now, isn't that unusual?
I bought 5 pieces, as they were really screaming out to me after looking at them for a long time, and carefully brought them home from Argentina.
When I showed the pieces to Jose, he was also impressed with their uniqueness, and we talked about how I wanted them framed. He understood the feelings exuding from the pieces, and made his recommendations on framing. Of course, he also recommended UV Protected Glass, with glare and reflection controls. The pieces were framed in such a way that the pieces float within the frame, as opposed to be glued down to a board. Of course, there are literally hundreds of framing designs and materials to choose from, as well as mats. You will not be limited in your consideration.
I have enjoyed looking at these pieces over the years, and while I do not recall exactly how much I paid, I do recall that it was not an outrageously high amount, but it was certainly not as inexpensive as some of the large, mass production framing establishments would charge. Like they say, you get what you pay for, and I had no problem paying a premium for the quality of the framing that was done.
When you frame a piece of original art, you are not only paying for the materials you select, but for the expert advice and input provided by a custom framer with many years experience. So, if you need artwork framed or reframed, I endorse Joyna's without reservation. The input you'll receive from the owner has much value.
Heads up as to location: this store is located in an industrial park, in one of those warehouse type structures, so don't look for a traditional storefront business. Your GPS should get you there without trouble.
