Mi Ranchito is part of the growing shoreline in the small village of Boca de Tomatlán at the mouth of an inlet roughly 10 miles south of downtown Puerto Vallarta. Construction was busy in several newish places as we walked from the parking area to the restaurant which sits right on the water. We stopped here for lunch as part of an ATV tour. The cafe is open air and covered, benefiting from a cool breeze blowing in off the pacific. Inside is comfortable, with sand for a floor that feels nice on bare feet. The menu is standard. We ordered ceviche, which came as a very large portion. The Mexican salsa, a tomato, jalapeño, and onion mixture common in this area, was spicier than others we've had. One of our party ordered the Pineapple Surprise, a drink that is served inside a carved pineapple, with a face made of fruit and toothpicks on the front. It was definitely a crowdpleaser. Other dishes we tried were octopus- based and rated fine to not so good. My only minor gripe is the table server used her rapport with us to hit us with a sales pitch for necklaces made of whale bones and shells. Her prices were high and, as always here, negotiating tactics were strong. I typically just wave the vendors off cuz they seem to get pissy if you take an interest then decide not to buy. I'd rather not mix that dynamic with table service. Other than that, three stars for Mi Ranchito. And I expect this area will likely grow in the coming years to have some better competition. I have since returned many times and I feel like an updated review is important because this is one of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten at across the globe for authentic Mexican cuisine, especially Mariscos. The atmosphere is local, authentic, quaint, and welcoming. Abuela can be seen in the kitchen hand making the tortillas so you know it's gonna be an amazing experience. The seafood is fresh and the food comes with a platter of sauces and pico de gallo and hot peppers that complement whatever dish you may order. The prices are fair and quite inexpensive when compared to prices back in the United States. There is a view during the day and at night, festive lights, set the tone for a magical evening. In short, having traveled across this wonderful globe and eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants, as well as local places like this, I can confidently say this is in the top 10 list of my favorite spots to enjoy a meal!

We decided to leave because we were hungry and realized that one of the restaurants we bookmarked was just a 10 minute walk and decided to check it out. We got there around 5 PM and we were the only ones there on a Saturday but it was off-season (Aug) so PV in general was pretty quiet. We were welcome by a friendly man who took us to the top floor with a mountain beautiful view which actually was a nice change from the ocean. The greenery was beautiful. This restaurant is known for their seafood and boy was it fresh. They don't have a specific menu, but rather they bring out a tray of their fresh selection of the day. Everything was beautiful and the shrimp was gigantic. We opted for the red snapper, lobster and the large shrimp. Everything was cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious. Oh, and I have to make a point of mentioning their margaritas. Fresh fruit margaritas... So yummy. We tried the mango margarita with fresh mangoes and strawberry margarita as well. I just love drinks made with fresh fruits. I think it was my favorite margarita of the entire trip. I do highly recommend you check this place out. The food is phenomenal and the service is wonderful. The 20 minute Uber ride cost about US$15 so well worth it, especially if you do a beach day and make a day of it.

We had a creamy and well seasoned guacamole to start with and then my spouse had the nicoise salad with shrimp and I had the fish special. It was the best seafood we had the whole trip - in a seafood centered town that is saying a lot. Flavors were balanced while also centering the shrimp/fish. Would definitely recommend.

I'm updating my previous 5-star review based on my lunch at Pineda yesterday…read more I'm lowering my assessment to FOUR stars because, while the quality of the food, service, and facilities are still top notch, the owners have continued to raise prices to the point where the value is questionable. One example (based on my menu photo in 2021): The zarandeado then was $190. It's now $445. That's a pretty significant jump. In addition to the increased prices they've dropped many items from their menu and in some cases reduced portions. My waiter told me that they removed the rice and bean side dishes from the "family platters" and the Mexicans, especially, were (!understatement alert!) "displeased." I can understand why: Prices up; selection and quantity down. The impact of this business decision shows. I've been there now a couple of times in Peak Snowbird Season and both times there's been no problem getting a table; it's just not nearly as crowded as it has been previously. Shame, really. I like this place; the food is great, the service is great, the cleanliness is great, the view is great. But coming in with smaller portions, reduced choices, and increased prices is really taking its toll on Pineda. PS: While the Tostada Mixta is one of the starters that's been stripped from the menu, my waiter was kind enough to persuade the kitchen to make one for me anyway (market price).

Had like 3 mariachi bands all around playing different music which made for NOT a relaxing meal. - lobsters were tiny and full of eggs. The amount of meat from one lobster was the size of one of my fingers. Maybe harvest lobsters *after* they have laid eggs so the population is sustainable? I would not order these again. - fish ceviche was pulverized and not great texture or flavor - people try to sell things at your table every 2 minutes. Also doesn't make for a relaxing meal. They have some good food but seems like they are going for quantity of people which sacrifices quality. Or maybe they treat locals better than tourists? They did tell us that multiple open tables in the best areas were "reserved". So we were seated on the edge between restaurants.

The place seats at least 250 ppl and the place was packed. Most people were eating ceviche or tostadas so I went for shrimp ceviche tostadas but I asked for my shrimp to be cooked. My wife spotted a shrimp cheese fondue so I went for that as well. Both items came packed with shrimp. So many shrimp, I had to deconstruct the tostadas because they were too big. As you would expect in Tepic the price was also very reasonable.
