Grilled steak, rice & beans w/sweet plantains and a caesar salad!

We had a long layover in Boston & needed to kill some time before heading back to the airport so we decided to find us a place to eat. Came across El Penol 2 on our way back from Walgreens & decided to go in. Boy am I glad we did! We were able seat ourselves, hostess came right over, handed us menus, bread basket & took our drink orders. This place serves authentic Colombian cuisine & it was absolutely delicious. We both had grilled steak except mine came with a grilled onion & tomato sauce. Both dishes were served with rice & beans, sweet plantains & a Caesar salad. Super flavorful & very filling. You get a lot of for the inexpensive price. The service was great.. If you're ever in the Revere, MA area, check them out..

I went to El Peñol 2 located on 570A Broadway in Revere, MA. We had a true Colombian food feast here! For drinks I tried their jugos naturales en augua (nature flavored water). They have so many flavors to try (mango, papaya, guava etc.) and you can get milk versions of them too. I tried their blackberry water and it was super delicious 9/10. For appetizers we had fried plantains 7/10, yucca frita (yucca fries) 7/10 and mixed ceviche platter 7/10. The mixed ceviche platter was quite the sight! It had shrimp, scallops, octopus and avocado. If you are in the mood for some seafood I recommend trying this dish. For main dishes we had the carne en crema de champinoñes (beef in mushroom sauce) 8/10, the picadillo de pollo (marinated chicken) 7/10 and pescado frito (whole fried fish) 7/10. For any of the dishes you can also get a side of rice and beans, fries, salad, or fried plantains. For dessert we got flan 7/10 and churros with ice cream 7/10. This place is very affordable and provides great portion sizes. I can see why they have two other locations (Boston and Brookline!). Next time I come back (or perhaps do delivery!) I want to explore more of their drinks and of course get plantains/yucca fries. Food: 7/10 Affordability: 8/10 Ambiance: 5/10

It's my first time in Boston and for several weeks we were looking for a good Colombian food and we found the place, Food is delicious and service is great. We ordered a cazuela Peñol, chicharrón con arepa, cubitos de queso, churrasco con chimichurri, and tostones con guacamole y hogao Everything was very delicious, I felt at home, the place is very nice, and the food came fast. The waitress very kindly offered to change my order to accommodate my dietary preferences. When i go back to boston i will definitely come back here.

Excellent little hole in the wall place! Serves a wide wide range of Colombian food, but clearly specializes in the meat dishes. Portions are truly huge (the dish they said serves two could have legitimately fed 5 or 6). Service was very friendly and the ambiance was nice. Was recommended this restaurant by several Revere locals too!

The food was great! The staff was so sweet and explained all of the different options on the menu! Very hospitable and super clean! You could literally smell Fabuloso and Bleach when you walked in as they were recently opening. I highly recommend this place! Super authentic and very homey! Enjoy!

Chicharron was great. - Arepa: looks like a tortilla, so not the typical thick arepas I'm used to. So felt like I paid $8 just for a tortilla and small block of cheese - Tostones con guacamole: I prefer my tostones to be crispier, but they had great taste. - Cazuela de Mariscos: Great flavor. I put it on top of rice and enjoyed it with the other food, otherwise too heavy/dense on it's own. I didn't enjoy the mussels (I love mussels). They were too gritty.
