Awesome trails, people and horses. We had a really great time today on the 2 hour ride, the owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide was very friendly and funny. Would 10/10 recommend, definitely going again, prices are very good as well. Was treated like "royalty "

Had a great time will definitely come again! Horses were kind and well behaved. Staff was very nice

Great time with my family. Josh took care of everything and even got my wife on a horse!

I'm saying this in the most Basic-female way... YAAAAAAAAAAAAAS! Just yaaaaaaas! I spent a fair share of time around horses as a kiddo and I've always missed that living in EP (however, I can't think of a single day where I haven't seen a horse or two in tow on I-10). Yes, you can go horseback riding in El Paso and no, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I can't give a higher recommendation for El Paso Trail Rides though so if you're even slightly considering going horseback riding just go to EPTR! Spur of the moment, my boyfriend and I decided to go horseback riding with one of his daughters (although we didn't let her know this...she may or may not have thought we were getting a puppy). He called up a different riding stable, but their name isn't worth mentioning since 1. They didn't answer; and 2. They never returned our voice-mail. And of course me being the Yelp-lover that I am, I immediately said, "WHY YOU NO USE YELP?!?" He clicked around on Yelp, found EPTR, and we had a ride scheduled for 5 PM. As we drove away from EP and took some windy roads and ended up in front of a small stable, his daughter finally realized we weren't getting a puppy. And as apprehensive as she was about being within spitting distance of a horse, we got her to shuffle out of the car and pet a couple of the horses while we waited for one of the owner's to return. Just being out there and petting the few horses made my heart flutter...these are the kind of things in life I love. Of course all of these horses are well-behaved and used to strangers approaching...no need to be scared even if you've never seen a horse up-close-and-personal before. When the staff returned we signed the waiver and saddled up...well, figuratively speaking because they already had the saddles on the horses from the previous ride. All of these horses are gorgeous and taken care of very well. Each horses' personality was really prominent and it actually elevated the experience. My boyfriend's daughter spotted a horse that kept one of her back legs raised and deemed her "Sexy Legs" and then stated, "I definitely don't want 'that' horse." She was given Sexy Legs. Because of the horses choice of leg position she felt as though it would buck her off...I can happily say the horse DID NOT buck her off, but it did have an eating problem that she was afraid to rectify so it made for some hilarious moments during the ride around the area. My horse didn't get a quirky nickname, but she seemed to be harboring some romantic feelings for one of the horses that was in a committed relationship with Sexy Legs. And my better-half rode a horse with an attitude (probably upset that none of the girl horses were interested in him). But in all seriousness these horses were great! It's obviously a trail they follow pretty regularly so they need very little guidance, but at the same time they are very receptive to guidance if you feel comfortable directing them. Did I mention the stables are owned and operated by a family of the friendliest people you'll ever meet? 'Cause they are! From start to finish they're there for you, making sure you're not endangering yourself or the horses. During certain portions of the trail they'll allow you to have the horses trot and of course my boyfriend and I jumped at the opportunity, but his daughter didn't feel comfortable trotting the second time around. I knew we picked a great stable when they were more than happy to accommodate all of us, two of them stayed behind to keep a steady pace with his daughter and one trotted down the road with us. And the views! I'm not sure if they have any other trails differing from the one we went on, but I'd do this trail repeatedly! You're in the desert, that's a given, but there's also views of corn fields, pecan orchards, and the best view of El Paso I've ever seen! If I've learned one thing, it's this...always.ALWAYS. ask for the 5 PM ride! Watching the sunset was amazing and the weather was perfect! Obviously this might not be true for winter...no, yah...I'd totally love this same view as the sun is setting during the colder months. From the get-go this little excursion was everything I wanted and more. The family that owns the horses and stables were warm and welcoming. The kind of people that are easy to talk to and just add to the experience. The horses were seasoned pros. And for a hour long ride (really it was a tad longer) for $35 a head, I ain't complainin'.

I haven't ridden horses since my early teens, my family owned horses, and I loved it. Now I'm 33, and I've traveled the world, but there's one thing that i will never stop loving; riding horses. I finally satisfied that urge today at El Paso Trail Rides. This experience was awesome, just what I needed. Located right outside El Paso in Anthony, this place is super easy to find. Took about 30 min flat FROM Ft Bliss. Cruise down I-10W, get off at exit 8. Make a left onto Artcraft at the light. Continue on for about 5-10 minutes, bust a right on McNutt. After that it's about 2-3 min and you'll see a sign that says El Paso Trail Rides turn here. It's right on the right. Pull up the short dirt driveway and you'll be greeted by a awesome guy and even awesomer friendly little ranch dogs. They are ready to go on a ride / walk more than you lol. Cute guys. Now I've ridden ALOT before so just like a bike, muscle memory had me right back in the saddle with ease and having a wonderful time. Zero issues. Trotted her a little, galloped her a little, but mostly a brisk walk. Was amazing. Now then, experience is NOT needed. The group that had been before us was just leaving... They had a 7yr old girl that rode without issue. Furthermore, my wife and her friend (they are both from the TINY, tropical, horse free island of Okinawa) had never even been on a horse before... Not a problem. They rode these majestic beasts without issue or cause for concern and had a great time. Such a cool experience to be able to share with them. When we all finally go back to the island, they can always say, like a real cowboy, they rode horses in Texas/New Mexico just like the stories they've heard lol. What a cool memory. But FYI; that memory will repeat itself for me and my wife as we are stationed here and WILL BE BACK, more than once... Bet $$$ on that. Speaking of $$$: it's very affordable (IMO). He charges $35 per person for a 1hr ride. And if you're not a avid rider, 1hr is enough. But for a little more you can get a faster 2hr ride (which is for sure what I'm doing next time, but that's just me). He told me he'd prefer no groups smaller than 3 (and I assume it's because it's a whole "thing" for him to take these horses out and 2 people would be ehhh, but he didn't say NO groups of 2.. Just preferred 3+. So call ahead and ask). He also can accommodate groups up to 10! So take your friends and your friends friends. He mentioned that you can get a military discount (if your military of course), for a group of 5 or more. Sounds like a deal to me. But honestly, I hope he'll back down from the group of 3... Because this is the kinda place I wanna come ride even by myself lol. Seriously, I'd go alone, it's that much fun and the guide is that cool that it'd still be a great time. He comes from a military family and his family comes from the same area as me too (The Bay), so it was cool talking stories with him. Hands down, this was the coolest thing I've done in El Paso, and I'd recommend it 10/10 times. Seriously. I'm not kidding, I'm going back, not once, not twice, but some kinda large number. When all said and done, it's not MUCH more than movies and dinner these days (I don't eat fast food)... Matter of fact, might be less!? And definitely way more fun. I can download a movie (illegally) for free... But I can never truly capture the live experience of riding a beautiful horse on the backdrop of the snow capped Franklin Mountains with 3 cute dogs following along on the trail. Damn dude... I wish I was born in the 1800s. I mean, I'd mob with Billy The Kid, cuz I'm from the hood... But I'd low key just take in the breathtaking scenery and appreciate the horse beneath me. It's something I wish everyone could see. So go... Call now. Book it. Get it. Take your kids, brothers, sisters, wives and husbands! Parents and friends and cousins too... Just go! It's worth it's seriously. Das It Mayne

Josh and his Son Isaiah made this whole experience for us! They knew their craft and made us feel comfortable as well as confident. Isaiah is mature beyond his years and has a bright future in the industry. Our horses were well kept, friendly and followed direction very well. A great experience for new riders. The trail through the Pecan trees with the mountains in the background at dusk was amazing! My family and I had a great time and met some great people at El Paso Trail Rides! Thank you Josh and Isaiah, we'll be back!!

Took my cousins and friend who was visiting from Washington on this trail horse ride. It was awesome! I'm glad my first horse back riding experience turned out great, most of my friend's first time didn't end well. Lol. Josh, who was our guide, was great! He enjoyed taking us around and made friendly conversation which made us a bit more comfortable lol. They taught us simple directions to guide the horses and Josh always told us what to do when we go up hills or down slopes. I loved how we got to go trotting through the orchards! Horses were so well behaved and their friendly dog-pals strolled with us. it's $35 per person, but they offer military discounts if you have 5 people or more. :)

This was a wonderful experience! I have never been horseback riding before, but this was a great way to have a 1st experience. The staff here is extremely kind and knowledgeable. Their main goal was making sure we had a good time. I traveled with a group of three other friends. My horse was named Jasper and we bonded well. All of the horses are well trained. Our guides took us around their property which included views of nut trees and cotton plants. We even got to see a plane take off from a nearby runway! We couldn't have asked for a better hour. The guides even allowed us to trot and gallop with the horse which was great and unique. If you're in town, this is a great activity to do - especially with a group of friends!

Had a very good ride. The Pecan groves are real nice and the views are very good. I have horse experience but Assiah was helpful in refresher. Rode 2-2017 and it was windy then the sun came out. I recommend El Paso Trail rides to most anyone. I would ride with them again. Thank you. Gary

It's a really fun horseback riding experience. We are from Los Angels and coming to El Paso for Christmas. We had a one hour ride, it's cool to see the pecan tree farm and great view on the horse. It feels like a cow girl from the West! The dogs are the receptionists here, they gave us a very warm welcome as soon as we got off the car, and they followed along our ride. The horses are very calm and friendly, my dad and my husband were never ride a horse before, and they had a great experience here.

Amazing experience, I was afraid going in because I've never ride in the horse before but the horses were very gentle and sweet, my kids lived every minute of it, the nature of the horses made me feel at ease and relaxed and I definitely enjoyed our time riding, I'm sure we'll be back if we are ever in El Paso Texas again.

Located in La Mesa NM, it is an incredible, large facility right in the middle of all the pecan farms / orchards. They house everything from privately owned horses (like mine), to thoroughbred race horses, quarter horses, lesson horses, trail ride horses, competitive horses and more. Dr Joe Armstrong lives on site, and his sons Josh and Ed, and their sons and daughters and other staff, facilitate everything. From training to care, they do it all. This is the absolute best boarding and/or training facility that you are going to find. Even if you don't own horses, they have plenty for you to do lessons on. Though I see my Bentley Boy almost daily, they are the ones that provide a world class, championship training facility for him. In my absence, they also give him exercise and use him for some training with cattle or trail rides, and even photo shoots! And when I'm not being busy or just a baby because it's a sandstorm, they give me mounted and unmounted training twice a week. And they can train you too! Or your horse! Or both! If you haven't been to Bowen Ranch, jump over to their Facebook and find out the next time they're…read moredoing something for the public. This is a real piece of El Paso's history, El Paso's true history. Great for adults and kids alike. Bowen Ranch is still owned by the Bowen family, but you'll find a wonderful family that runs the ranch. Visiting this for a small, private event actually gave me a real feel for what Bowen Ranch does. The family has plans to bring the ranch back to all its glory, but I have to say... they've kept it in really good shape. One thing that really impressed me was the temperament of the animals on the ranch at the Headquarters. There wasn't a mean bone in a single one of them. All of them are people friendly and will shuffle up to you to be pet if you put your hand out. Now, I wouldn't recommend doing that with the cattle because you might spook them, but all of the horses and even the goat were super sweet. The property is huge and you get some gorgeous views of the sunset while out there. There not open to the public on day to day, but they have some small events and a few opportunities where you can watch them roping cattle and performing other essential duties. But Bowen Ranch is open to small events, you just have to ask. If you're looking for a beautiful and rustic backdrop for a wedding, reunion, or any kind of event that you can think of really, this is a great option.
