This is…read moreone of the few places in this little sleepy town that is open for breakfast, and it is a very popular place for the pilgrims (peregrines) on the Camino de Santiago. They will stop here and eat before departing on their walk for the day.
When we arrived, there was one other customer, happily eating his breakfast, and I think reading the paper. His pack was set by the wall and was alone. By the time we left, there were probably 10 people, all with packs and walking sticks.
I ordered a big breakfast since I was quite hungry, and we had a 3 hour plus drive back to Madrid. The huevos fritos, jamon y patatas (egss, ham and potatoes) were my breakfast. While they were not the best I'd ever had, they did hit the spot and get me going. The real winner here was that they opened early and really catered to the pilgrim, which I thought was pretty special. If I'm in Santa Domingo again, whether staying at the Parador or hiking the Camino de Santiago (may do this one day), I'd try to come back here.
