01/18/2018 I got a chance to attend the Norms Groundbreaking Ceremony which included the Main Street Renaming. The new city parking lot no. 1 is going to get an upgrade too. According to the program provided for this event, Valley Mall was named back in 1964. Before that it was known as Main Street. Celebrating the revitalization with the groundbreaking for Norms Restaurant enhancing the shopping and dining experience comes the unveil the renaming of the Valley Mall to Main Street. The construction will add 179-space smart parking lot with up-to-date information on the number of spaces available. Hopefully this brings more residents back to this area. Change is always good but it will take time to get all the signs changed over. read more

El Monte Valley Mall remind me a lot likes Chinatown, except there is no tourist here. This place is not like Olvera Street in Downtown, there's no street vendors here, which is a bit disappointing , there is no landmark here too. Street is actually pretty good shape, clean but many of the stores is clearly outdated, mostly wall in hole felling. you can find some of the most authentic Mexican food here, dish you do not often see elsewhere in L.A. like Huaraches and between other. Dirt cheap clothing can be found here just like you would in Chinatown. There is few retails tore here like T-Mobile. Parking is actually pretty easy here, street and lot parking are both free. There is no time limit too, unlike many city, so no rush when you come here. This is not many people top spot to visit, but if you grave for Mexican food or want some cheap clothing. please do NOT buy from vendor in stall #1 he is an Asian man who sells dresses. He is located on the left hand side if you enter from the south entrance he takes you money and doesn't have your dress ready on the date you need it and then brings you a dress that you didn't order. If this happened to you please contact me, I am going to take him to civil court. I have a incident report from calling the police. He is a BAD BUSINESSMAN and person. All other vendors are nice and civil and I even bought some make up from the center stall next to the north entrance 5 stars for him. read more

Sorry Valley Mall, but you suck. That is just my opinion. This place has not changed for years and years. I have lived in this city all my life and I have never purchased a single item from the Valley Mall. Well, maybe once or twice because I had to buy some cheap "chanclas", sandals, hello! The Valley Mall has only about 5 categories and there are more than 50 plus stores. They have either shoes, clothes, dollar stores, restaurants, mores shoes and more clothes. What can we say about Valley Mall except that it's in EL Monte. Yeah, its super duper cheap so you can find alot of basic blouses. They tend to have 'club wear' style clothing if you know what I mean... as in like transparent heals, backless mini dresses with leopard print. But sometimes you can find something nice. Hit or miss really. But prices can't be beat. You can find a dress here for 13-20 bux. You can't expect much of the quality though. And watch out for customer service...I over heard a few ladies speaking rather nastily about costumers in Spanish. If you are good at brushing off the 'evil eye' then by all means. They used to have a nice Mexican candy store that supplied wholesale bags of candy and pinatas. There is alot of parking on the lots behind the stores, on the north side of the "mall". But if you're there alone be weary of the super nacos ( nasty guys who cat call) hanging out there. I ate mariscos there once at a restaurant on one of the little street corners and it wasn't very nice. The food was medicore, the tables were not clean, the beverages were alright and the service was just o.k. There is however a nice little nieveria that is family owned. They make good diablitos and ice cream. If you're in need of crinolina for a quince dress or something of that nature then the valley mall will totally help you out. It's a small outdoor mall it's next to the El Monte bus station and small restaurants near by to grab something to eat . I've been coming here for years and I havnt had any problems with anyone (store wise ). Only problem is that not all products in some store have good metals read more

This mall, if you can even call it that, has dead vibes everywhere. The shops there mainly sell clothing and things that you can easily find at the 99¢ store. Although there are a few restaurants, I wouldn't recommend going in them, due to the fact that they look like they're about to collapse. The pet store there is a clear representation of animal cruelty. If you're looking for small pets I highly suggest just going to the Petco in the next plaza, as it is more modern. The small rodents aren't even separated by sex and put into small compartments, which usually results in fights to death. The fish are overcrowded into small one gallon tanks (which are barely filled up with any water) and the dead fish are left floating in the water for the others to eat. Not to mention the smell of the place is vile. All in all, I would highly suggest just driving a couple more miles to the Montebello mall, or wherever else, because you can find more modern shops like JCPenney there. Buying things at a different mall will leave you not having to worry about your purchased item falling apart on the way home. read more

DO NOT BUY YOUR DRESSES IN HERE. You honestly have to be careful here, some people are genuinely nice and other people sell things way over priced. I had an experience with an Asian man that sells dresses telling me he would give me a discount and get my dress sized and cut (this was for a wedding) and once I cane to pick it up he backed out and said no that it never happened. After doing business with him I found out that he has problems with all his clients he does not return the money he gives things very late and they don't actually size the dresses if they tell you that they're going to cut the price don't believe it. He was actually going to give it to me for $100 more but didnt because we were actually going to leave. The dress was still expensive $250. And it's not good quality it looks ok but it looks like it can fall apart. The Asian man also said he normally raises his prices for prom. You really have to haggle for the price even then they don't want to sell for cheap once they see that you're leaving they'll say anything to keep you. Please do not buy from this place at least the dresses. This doesn't sound bad but trust me it is 10x worse then what I'm describing. Went to a store to get a plain colored shirt.... The woman who worked there refused to let me try on one of the shirts so I could not tell whether it would fit or not. Went back a day later to return it with the receipt and everything. The same woman argued with one of the workers because supposedly the shirts stretch out. I have also lived in El Monte nearly all my life, and I can't say I frequent the Valley Mall. I have on occasion been there in emergency situations, and I have to say I've found some clothing stores that I really like. I agree, it does need to be updated a bit. I grew up in El Monte (South EM) in the 50's. I remember all the nice stores they had on the Mall: Grant's, J.C. Penney, Richards Clothes For Men, and other good stores. When Eastland Shopping Center opened up in West Covina it put a LOT of local city downtown's out of business INCLUDING El Monte's Mall. Sadly, it's new citizens prefer 2nd hand crap stores to quality shopping, and it has remained so ever since. This mall is a great place to shop most of the vendors are nice and don't rip you off. But me and my family went to go buy a baptism dress for my niece and we bought it and this man said it'll be here by Friday, and so when we went it wasn't there and he said it'll be there by the next Friday, and we went again and it wasn't there then he said it'll be there by Sunday and we went and it wasn't there. Whatever you do do not every buy dresses in this store. Also a reminder you don't get refunds. He completely rips you off and I had read other reviews about this store and they are true. I think whats going to happen is that the dress is gonna come late and we will get something completely different that we did not order. So on the last day we will have to spend all our money to go buy a dress that's good quality, we will get it there, and won't be a rip off.
