Amazing food as to quality and quantity. Service is very good. Not my first time, always stop when coming through. read more

Great place to stop for lunch when driving between FL and Ga. Close to the highway, friendly service and delicious food with multiple vegetarian options! And with a dog friendly patio. The place looks like a very authentic Mexican restaurant and while it does not look great it is what you expect at a restaurant by the highway. read more

This was the most hoppin' spot in Tifton with the exception of the Publix water aisle a day before the hurricane. Seriously though, El Matate was an excellent choice for Mexican. The parking lot was packed, and we snagged the last table before the lobby started to fill up with people waiting, and the service was quick and friendly. They had some big ass margaritas which were cheap on Wednesdays. The crunchy taco (a must at any Mexican restaurant) was pretty basic, but also pretty good for being basic. And the fajita burrito with steak, chicken and shrimp was big and filling. Tony's tacos also looked good but I didn't get to try it. I think there were a few Mexican options in Tifton, and we only tried this one, but if I was ever back in town, I'd probably end up here again, but get there early enough to beat the rush! read more

Outstanding restaurant! Got the Tifton Burrito. Stuffed, and I mean STUFFED, with huge juicy shrimp, tender steak, sauté fresh veggies, including squash and zucchini, perfectly seasoned rice, and beans all wrapped in a amazing delicious flour tortilla draped in creamy white cheese. The staff were all very nice too! Authentic, beautiful decor and very clean and tidy! Will definitely be back here asap! read more

Great food, service was ok. We were traveling and a party of 5 adults and one child. Everyone got something different, and the it was all good. Large portion size for the price, would love to come here again read more

The ambience is really comfortable. Staff is professional and personable and the food is over the top!! I had the carne asada and a mango margarita which was served in a small Cuervo bottle. It was one of the best meals I have ever had read more

We were famished after a long day on the road and chose this place based on other reviews. We weren't disappointed. We arrived a little after 5:30 PM and the place was hopping. We were able to get seated but we got one of the last booths. They have quite an extensive menu. We both had a beer to drink but the drink special for Saturday evening is a pitcher of margaritas for $14.99. Had we not been so tired... We both ordered burritos. I got the supreme and my wife had the Jarecho. They were huge and very good. They don't come with rice and refried beans like most places. I ordered a side of Mexican rice but couldn't eat it all. I could have done without it. This place is decorated in authentic Mexican decor and while it was nice, it wasn't anything fancy. Fluorescent lights set an atmosphere that says you are here to eat and move on. It isn't intimate but suits the business. Our food arrived shortly after we ordered it and all told we spent less than an hour here. We'll stop in again when we are in the area. read more

Great place to stop on your rode trip. Large petitions, tasty for all. My 11 year old and my 80 yesterday old mother including my wife and I were very satisfied. Bean and cheese burrito for the young one, taco chicken salad for mom, enchiladas Verdes and I had mole poblano. Each dish was much better than any fast food. The place was packed with locals including a birthday party. The service was above average however, the manger is amazing. We would eat here often and I would change one thing. No cheese on top of my mole, lol! read more

Ordered the fajitas for two and they were the best I ever had! I called in an order for pick up, but the inside was bustling with people, it's very clear that this is "the best place in Tifton!" read more

Nothing really exciting, but their lunch menu prices are pretty cheap, and it's probably a better choice than the boring chain restaurant options off this exit. The chips for the chips & salsa were burnt but the salsa was ok. I was kinda bummed because I was looking forward to a small cup of some kind of Mexican soup to soothe my road trip ravaged tummy, but they only had a large bowl of soup for $8.99 so I got a chile relleno that was only $2.99 and loaded with meat but a bit bland. Service was slow, and this place seems to attract locals so servers spent a lot of time chatting with the regulars. read more

My friends and I found this place by chance, we were on out way back home to Florida and stopped on the way to eat. And I have to say this is hands down one of the BEST Mexican places I've been to, and im a regular to Mexican restaurants. The portions are incredible amazing. The food is delicious with just the right necessity seasoning. The margaritas are great! And the prices are amazing! Too bad this place is far from home. We were a big party and they were rapid to accommodate us with a great smile and joyful staff. The music was also fantastic, I would totally recommend this place! read more

Best Mexican food I've ever had. The slow roasted carnitas were excellent as was the tamale. There was a line out the door. Must try

Went in on a Saturday night for carry out while in town for an overnight on a cross country trip. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was colorful and fun. Food was outstanding. Not as good as we had hoped. I got the steak fajitas and it was burnt-not well done, but burnt. I understand that the plate is very hot but the meat shouldn't be black and crispy. My husband had enchiladas and they were okay a little dry but edible. Won't be back. read more

I rarely put a negative review but this place is truly bad. I ordered cheese enchilada and the cheese wasn't melted, the chili relleno was filled with ground beef, no cheese. And the burrito was average at best. So disappointed read more

El Metate is a great Mexican restaurant! My husband and I lived in Texas for a number of years which has awesome TexMex. This place reminded me of the local place we used to go to. Tonight the food was delicious, it arrived quickly, the service was good, and it was reasonably priced. We shared the fajitas for two! It was a ton of meat! We didn't finish it at all. I would definitely recommend this place! It was a great experience! read more

Many times cruised through Tipton and never stopped. For some reason, I did this time and discovered a cute little place with decent food. I had the Burrito Grande (Hot!) ($8.99) A big flour tortilla stuffed with rice, beans, pico de gallo, hot sauce and choice of pork, steak or grilled chicken. It was tasty and, FINALLY, it actually had some serious heat to it. Most places that warn you about spicy food are really catering to the folks who think Taco Bell hot sauce is out of this world. THIS place really socks it to you with the heat and those gigantic margaritas really washed it down good. I usually eye with suspicion a Mexican restaurant with gringos working the floor - but my gringo was friendly, cool and got the food out nice and quick. read more

Solid family Mexican restaurant. Steady crowd of patrons dining in. Large menu, super fast and friendly service. Only loses a star because of parking and the shady hotel that shares the space. Great choice for quick Mexican dinner right along the highway! read more

We stopped at 3 Mexican restaurants on our trip through the southeastern US and this one was my favorite. Good food, with a fresh taste and excellent quality. Very cheesy (literally) but not over the top. We had a bunch of different tacos and whether you go cheese-and-lettuce or cilantro-and-onion, they aim to please. Quick even during a busy lunch hour. Just overall nice vibes here, and very family friendly. read more

As the sign says best food in town. If your looking for Mexican it's a small local place but the food and decor and wait staff go above and beyond. Tried the burrito Jalisco yesterday and it was amazing read more

Great Mexican food. Cool atmosphere. Service is decent. It's always busy. Get there early.

Not exactly what we were looking for. The tacos didn't come with anything on them. The super burrito was just meat, tomato sauce, and cheese. They could pay more attention on making the food taste better. If you are passing through and want mexican, go somewhere else! read more

I stop here in my way to Atlanta from Florida. Great place to stop, service is a little slow but the food is great so they take a little longer. I order fajitas for 2, only $20 and the portion was huge, I had enough leftovers for 3 extra meals. Great flavor plans true Mexican food. Enjoy read more

We waited forever on food not even worth eating... maybe 3pm isn't the restaurants best time to have a late lunch but the place was empty, the food took forever and it was awful. My grandma asked 3 times for a glass of water- the chips didn't crunch- Money well waisted.... we won't be back. There are plenty of other places in Tifton to eat good tacos- don't stop here. read more

I eat here at least once a week with family and friends, since the week they opened years ago. The servers are interactive and that is what is locals love. This place always feel like comfort . It is a Tex Mex not a true authentic but it is amazing. Like all restaurants they may have an off day but they have many more on days. The only major downside is the parking is tight. I don't eat at but one other Mexican place in town and that is once every few months. This is my go to spot! Fajitas and enchilads are so good! read more

We were there at 6:30 p.m. It was busy and they were understaffed. Service was pleasant but slow due to volume. The margherita was poor. The mix seemed more like neon green Kool-aid than anything else. Their entrees are reasonably priced but poorly executed and tasteless. I enjoyed the rice and beans that came on the side but my order of poblanos was bad. The peppers were not fully cooked and not worth eating. After the first bite I re-grouped, scrapped the meat filling out and tried to salvage a meal. It didn't work. The meat (I'm sure the same ground meat they put in every ground beef dish) was bland, totally tasteless with no seasoning. I was truly surprised at how bland it was. paid $8.99 for rice and beans. My wife picked at her food without eating it either. I wished we'd eaten a Chic-Fil-A read more

Absolutely my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in town. The inside is always clean and smells wonderful. The staff treats your like family and you're greeted with a jolly hello as you enter the doors. The booths are large enough for 4-8 adults depending on which you sit in. The colorful chairs and tables really are a unique touch. All hand painted and detailed beautifully. The Maria's special, Tifton Burrito or Texas Fajita Nachos are all our top choices whenever we go. The margaritas aren't half bad either. read more

We were just passing through town and stopped for the night. Looking for authentic Mexican. This place fit the bill. Service was excellent. They have half price margaritas Monday through Thursday. Can't beat that. Prices are very reasonable. I got the veggie fajitas and there was enough for three people. Salsa was ok. If the chips had been hot - then five stars it would have been. read more

NOT EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! We were actually looking for Ranchero's but somehow ended up here. It has a great vibe with a very authentic decor. You may eat in or take it to go. We decided to place our order to go so I ordered the veggie quesadilla with beans and rice while my husband ordered the combo plate with a side of beans and rice. The veggie quesadilla is the worst thing to order if you are using one less dominant hand. It was a mess. The quesadilla was a bit bland but better when I added the beans which were too heavy and salty on their own. The rice was dry and under-seasoned so I really couldn't eat it. While my husband's food was well seasoned, they use dark meat for their enchiladas and burritos. When eating chicken based dishes, I always prefer white meat. The food was okay, I just prefer lighter, more evenly seasoned options. Next time I will stick with my original choice. read more

Food was pretty good but service was so-so. Unfortunately dinner was "ruined" by two things: dirty silverware and four young men, make that little boys that were obviously having their first drink in public. You know someone has an adventurous side when they stop to eat at a Mexican restaurant in Tifton, Ga while on an eight hour drive. El Cazador seemed like the most happening place in town when we pulled in. The place was busy, but service was good as we were checked on by a few servers. Food was actually pretty decent Tex-Mex fare. No emergency stops or roadside assistance was needed for the rest of the trip. Ole! read more
