We stopped here one evening after a trip to Silver Dollar City (never again will I go to SDC). Tired and hungry we pulled up at dinner time 530ish and it was SLAMMED. The wait time was approximately 1/2 hr+ and there were 3 groups of 5 people in front of us. (I think one cut). We got seated and got drinks. I ordered a bowl of queso which I'm still waiting on. We went thru 2 baskets of chips before they got our order but like I said we were hungry and they were slammed. The food came out pretty quickly and was tasty and hot. You definitely got full. Order the hotter salsa if you can't stand some heat or mix some with that marinara sauce they call salsa. Much better. Had no complaints about the food. The rice was a lil bland but I've had worse. Kudos to the staff that was hustling like mad. They were all business that night! read more

Would recommend. Last night of our trip to Branson, got it to go pick up. It was a long trip and exhaustion had set it so it was nice it was close and definitely edible. Excellent!! We ate at the Branson West location. It has quite a varied menu. We ordered chicken chimichanga and chicken nachos. Both plates were fantastic. Service was fast; chips and salsa were fantastic!! I will definitely go back! I wanted to add that our bill, two entrees with a coke and tea, came to $24.99. Surprisingly good Mexican food! I'm from Texas, and Tex-Mex is in abundance. We eat out way more than we should! This place had great chips and salsa. I had a specialty quesadilla that had beef and chorizo. It was excellent! Had a homemade tortilla. Great rice and beans too! My husband had his usual fajitas. Oh boy. I came to visit my grandma and she was raving about the taco salad. Anyway, I ordered a combo with chicken taco, chili relano y arroz (rice). I will give it to them that their arroz and the pollo were absolutely delicious and the pollo was moist. The thing that was just bad was the roja (red) sauce for the chili relano and the salsa with the chips. Like it tasted like a can of tomato sauce with oregano mixed in. I know traditional, authentic Mexican food and this was just not okay. I was expecting an amazing salsa de guajillo or other traditional chile. Abuelitas all around would be sorely disappointed in this sauce. The kicker for me was that the salsa roja was an upgrade from some "queso blanco" sauce. Who would even smother that "drunk munchies" sauce on their Mexican food anyway - has to be some Midwest taste bud thing?! I will go back just for the arroz y pollo and maybe try a dish with carne in it but, the salsa roja made me cringe. read more

Meh is my overall opinion. The queso sauce was pretty good, and the fajitas were somewhere between decent and good. My wife's enchilada was pretty basic. The salsa was not to my taste at all. The establishment was large and clean. Service was fast, but fairly impersonal. read more

Thinner chips and thicker salsa than most Mexican restaurants-both are better than usual. Plus three types of hot sauces on my table El Yucatán both red and green plus Chiluba Hot Sauce. Hands down, El Lago is the most authentic and delicious Mexican Restaurant in the Branson area, if not all of southern Missouri. I felt as if I was home in southern California, while my taste buds argued we were back in Mexico! The tortilla chips arrived fresh, warm, and crispy. My heart was won over by the half decanter of salsa, which could have been spicier but that is my personal taste. It was still very good. The rice and beans are spot on and made from scratch. The Mexican rice is made with short-grain and comes out light and slightly fluffy, as it should be. The refried beans are also cooked from scratch using pinto beans and then mashed - a true comfort food! I have tried both the chicken tacos and chimichanga and neither disappointed! It is worth the pretty drive over to El Lago and I encourage you to give them a try, whether you are a visitor or live in the greater Branson area! read more

The waiters are super responsive. The food is great. The very thin chips for appetizers are amazing. The salsa is free and they bring it as often as you need. One of the better, maybe best mexican places in the area. Service is always friendly and quick. Food is always good and they have an extensive menu (like many mexican places). Two reasons I didn't give 5 stars -it's often very loud in the large dining room - to the point of making it difficult to have a conversation. Also like many places they use the daylight type light bulbs that give the dining room a kind of warehouse feel instead of a cozy dining room. read more
