Zio Pesce means "uncle fish" and the decor is hip with fishing related objects on the walls, white table clothes and at least one waiter who translated the menu for us, answered all questions and ensured that not just the meal, but the evening was terrific. We started with a fabulous fish ceviche. Very fresh. Lovely flavor. Next we shared an order of bauletti. Bauletti means little trunks (think suitcases, not swimming). They are little squares filled, in this case, with cod. The bauletti are then cooked in a tomato sauce and bechamel sauce like you'd bake lasagna. It was great. The secondo was crispy octopus (polpo croccante). The octopus wasn't crispy but was grilled and coated with toasted bread crumbs and served on potatoes and greens. What great combination. All of the this was accompanied by cold, crisp lovely vermentino from Sardinia. For dessert we had super fresh strawberries with a lovely sauce I can no longer recall except to say that my mouth is watering thinking about it. This was a great meal and a great evening in a lovely ambience. Zio Pesce is the kind of restaurant you'd drive across town for in Washington or Atlanta or Toronto -- if you could get a reservation . Which brings me to the final point: you need to make reservation if you want to eat at Zio Pesce. The gentleman who answered the phone switched to English as soon as he heard my bad Italian.

I usually try the yellowfin tuna here, it's super delicious. The fish is seared which means it's heated only at the surface. So, if you don't like raw fish, this is not for you. The fish I comes with potatoes and some green leaves, so quite filling. Zio Pesce has become one of my favorite restaurants in Milan because of the quality of food as well as the dining experience itself. The staff are very kind and attentive, and do what they can to keep you satisfied. Once, they gave us a free bottle of wine just because we had to wait for about 15 minutes (with a reservation). This was far from my expectation considering what I see in some places in Italy. Yes, they care about customers!

Beautifully creative cocktails, entrees and desserts. While many restaurants sacrifice taste for presentation, this one does not. Each plated dish is not just accompanied by a smear or drizzle of the same bland over-colored sauce. Every element of the plate actually does complement the star of the dish. Tasting and sampling each element on the plate/bowl/glass/cup was an adventure in itself. Not only is the presentation of each drink/dish creative, but the actual flavors and ingredients are unique. This is not your average restaurant kitchen and bar. Despite the hard walls and floor, the space is not as loud as one would expect. Service was pleasant and above average One word of caution, although I kind of like the down-low street presence. . .don't blink when you're driving by because you will miss the tiny sign!

Amazing. My friend & I made this our last spot for the…read morenight. It's small, but I like cocktail bars like this. From the reviews, these dudes know how to make a lot from a little. My friend got a G&T. I opted for an off menu creation. Always wanting to test the skills of bartenders around the globe... Yeah, amazingly complex drink I had. I remember rum, another brown liquor, some fruity & spicy notes, and that's it. I was quite tipsy. My friend said my drink was amazing when he sampled it. A nice treat? The bartender wears a cute checkered top with nice slacks and suspenders. I love a good pair of suspenders. They're comparable to garter belts - a style of dress that's classic & old school chic. Bathroom is cute, lots of B&W photos of famous people from the 1940's - 1950's. Great spot. You won't be disappointed.

That being said, damn do they make some great cocktails! I tried the Lion's Head and the Ego Negroni and they were both excellent. Using infused liquors and excruciating attention to detail, their bartenders are borderline OCD mixologists. Oh, and they're great at customer service. Don't like their drink? They'll make you another one just the way you want it, compliments of the house. Overall, a solid place to get some decently priced cocktails early on in the night with a small group of friends.
